I've learned that 60% of you troll, 20% of you try to make an effort and another 20% post thoughtful posts. I'm probably being fairly nice with those percentages too and how I see myself as a user first I thought I should be honest about that too. One thing off-topic has taught me or as Tort said, reenforced, is to embrace different view points and an argument is no good unless you have the facts to back it up.

Remembering threads from a year or 2 ago is now trolling? Bleh.

I've learned that all countries in the world has it's fair share of idiots

I've learned the joy that is anime

I've learned to type properly and to always make an effort to correct spelling mistakes and grammar.

Like the other "non trolls" in this thread, OT has made me rethink all of my morals multiple times in subjects like religion, drug use, and politics.

I never made a claim to whom I said was a troll and who wasn't so please don't jump to conclusions.

I've learned that even morons can operate a computer, that they are widespread throughout the world, and that intelligent people who can't even articulate properly over the internet annoy me even more than the morons.

It's shaped my views on the world. I have way more respect for countries besides the US, I went from Catholic to Agnostic, have slightly less hateful feelings towards marijuana, and I tend to have more support for free choice.

And killing people with a baseball bat is bad.

Killing a bad person isn't bad.

Don't be a moron. Everybody has a right to live, it doesn't make a difference wether or not people are bad, they have the right nonetheless.

Most of what I learned was about myself. How I react to things, which statements annoy me, and that injustices are the #1 thing to get to my bones.

I also became more skeptic about things. An argument is worthless unless it either contains very strong logic, or is based on proof.

- Many american stereotypes (of thought, not behaviour) are more correct than i had ever dreamed. this scares me.

I'm curious, what stereotypes would those be?

first I just want to point out that stereotypes are generalizations, therefore they show general trends, not the opinions of anyone in particular. they are also opinions, reflecting me.

- Americans believe in the right to freedom, even when the moral cost is substantial.

- The american justice system protects itself, not individuals

- Americans are mostly far to the right, politically.

- Religion stands strong in America, in principle, but the morality of religion seems lost.

- America has been holliwoodified by hollywood, culture (sports, music, opinion etc.) have changed accordingly

- extreme examples, dominate american opinions. they are scaremongered by their media

- differences in american society are massive. The middle class of america are worse off than in Europe.

- Socialism is always horrible, every man is his own castle.

- view and knowledge about the world outside america is limited. few actively seek this on their own, and must meet other cultures before they see things globally.

Taught me how hard high-schoolers try to act scholarly.

How can you realize your intellectual potential unless you experiment as you grow up? academia is not for everyone

have you ever actually been to America? I don't wanna start a big thing but probably half of what you said there is true. The one thing that really ticked me off was why do we have to be like you? If we don't want to be socialist that is our choice, for good or for ill.

Another thing I learned (In cooperation with history classes). What one group says about an opposing group is often similar to what the opposing group says about them. Mind boggling, that is. Kind of funny how similar the two end up being in practice, too. Ahh human nature...

The sarcasm isn't learned from here, I brought that in with me.

I've learned quite a bit through observations here:

-many who claim to be open minded are in fact not.

-many people would rather take bias media reports as the unquestionable truth especially over witness testimony.

-Godwin's law is very true.

-Religion in America is a lot like the Scarlet Letter's display of Puritanism.

-There's a lot of shock news covered by the media.

-The WBC is crazy and should disbanded.

-Many people reference socialism, communism and fascism with too much fear and absence of enough information to know what any of them are.

-Some tend to incorrectly group people into two groups to determine their intelligence: theists and atheists.

-Many things one group will use against another is either a misconception or misunderstanding.

[spoiler=click you know you wanna]
Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!
