A while ago, Jagex made rune essence and pure essence separate to discourage level 3 bots mining essence to give to their main accounts. Now that this is limited by trade restrictions, is there a point to having two different types of essence?

Keeping the two types keeps the market relatively stable, changing it back to 1 type would just be too much trouble.

Not really, but it's kinda late to take it out of the game now. And if they were to take Pure essence out, Rune Essence would sky-rocket in price, discouraging F2P Rc'ers.

Yes, as rune essence is not such a great reward for the GOP. But I guess it would affect the market a bit

To sum up what everyone else has said, it is WAY too integrated in the system already. To remove it would be a greater evil then letting it stay.

i think you missed the "and consequently cheaper death runes, blood runes, law runes and nature runes". this devaluation would be very rapid as supply would explode, everyone who can wait to buy runes would wait, because everyone anticipates price decrease (based on previous essence price economics everyone is aware of). this anticipation increases the speed of the decrease (market economics in the GE). why would the profit-margins stay elevated in any way?

 

f2p runecrafting would be unprofitable.

Cheaper deaths, nats, etc maybe, but essence would be cheaper as well.

Cheaper Nats, Death, Blood, and Laws. Higher priced ess. F2P rc would get killed. F2P would probably get more motivation to mine ess. Elemental rune prices would rise. Other than that I don't really see a lot else.

To be 100% honest, the people who are training RC are usually the people not at 99 yet. I know I have Graahk'd a total of 5 minutes since I've obtained 99. It's an extremely tiring activity and the money is about the same as semi afking in a 3-4 people Bandos or Sara team. The people who aren't 99 RC may RC for a goal, and this might give them an additional incentive to train. We already know a huge proportion of the rs population loves grinding out skills/activities we dislike in order to obtain an item. I know I've done it before and I'm not proud of it but it is the ugly truth.

Slightly offtopic here, but this is the reason why Deflation is worse than Inflation. Inflation just means investing into a certain item and riding the waves, deflation means your items never sell because no one wants to buy it when it's cheaper tommorow.

 

I think the idea of Rune/Pure essence should be left as it is, is there any reason to merge them?

If the new essence was around 100 gp each then I think it would be good. increased profit from mining essence would see more people mining it so that the increased amount of RC'ers would be negligible. And after about a week or two most new RC'ers would give up anyways. This would mean cheaper essence, more profit for mining it (in FTP), more profit for using it, and cheaper runes for the people who don't RC. If jagex does decide to do this I hope they wait until I'm 91 runecrafting lol.

I think it's still fine as it is.

 

Merging them together would not only kill F2P RC profit, but also makes a whole lot of runes cheaper (therefore making RC less profitable).

If i had to guess what would happen if they were merged the cost of elemental runes would raise, essence would rise(assuming they used rune essence price and not pures price), member runes prices would settle a little lower then before after a crash. So in the end it would all be about the same profits from RCing.

This, and there is still probably some botting and rwting goiing on... Remember the hassle when they did it? Going back would be even worse..

As much as I would like the system to be changed back, (because it was stupid enough in the first place and didn't deter bots) it's too engrained in Runescape life.

Not really but its too ingrained in the system already. It would be too much of a hassle to remove at this point. The only way to take pure ess out of the game now is to replace it with an equivalent amount of regular ess based on the current prices (that is, for every pure ess you have, you would receive multiple regular ess). But it wouldn't be worth it anyway.

Like everyone has said thus far, pure essence is already too far into the game system to be removed. I remember the day pure ess was released, the economy went absolutely insane. Lucky players who had stacks of thousands and thousands of rune ess found it to be converted to p ess, and over quadrupled in value for the first few weeks or so. I saw one guy who for someone reason sold his green mask for rune ess right before the update, and got loads of profits afterwards. Players without any banked ess found it impossible to rc efffectively for a good month or so because the p ess was impossible to buy, and when it did the profit was barely anything since the prices were all over the place. I don't think it's worth the chaos; the prices are fine as they are.
