December 11, 201015 yr Judaism is both a religion and an ethnicity, in the same way that you might be German without ever having been to Germany - just by heritage. I have to disagree, since religion is something which is strictly a choice. It represents a set of values and ideas which a follower must choose to accept, whereas your ancestor's nationalities and your own can't be chosen.

So Judaism (religion) is a religion, and Judaism (ethnicity) is an ethnicity. The two are seperate things.
December 11, 201015 yr Wouldn't Judaism the ethnicity be Hebrew though? "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
December 11, 201015 yr I've done some excruciatingly extensive research on the matter (or in layman's terms, I went to Wiki). Who is a Jew? Judaism shares some of the characteristics of a nation, an ethnicity, a religion, and a culture, making the definition of who is a Jew vary slightly depending on whether a religious or national approach to identity is used.[26] Generally, in modern secular usage, Jews include three groups: people who were born to a Jewish family regardless of whether or not they follow the religion; those who have some Jewish ancestral background or lineage (sometimes including those who do not have strictly matrilineal descent); and people without any Jewish ancestral background or lineage who have formally converted to Judaism and therefore are followers of the religion.[27] At times, conversion has accounted for a substantial part of Jewish population growth. In the 1st century of the Christian era, for example, the population more than doubled, from 4 to 8–10 million within the confines of the Roman Empire, in good part as a result of a wave of conversion.[28] Historical definitions of Jewish identity have traditionally been based on halakhic definitions of matrilineal descent, and halakhic conversions. Historical definitions of who is a Jew date back to the codification of the oral tradition into the Babylonian Talmud. Interpretations of sections of the Tanakh, such as Deuteronomy 7:1–5, by learned Jewish sages, are used as a warning against intermarriage between Jews and non-Jews because "[the non-Jewish husband] will cause your child to turn away from Me and they will worship the gods of others." Leviticus 24:10 says that the son in a marriage between a Hebrew woman and an Egyptian man is "of the community of Israel." This contrasts with Ezra 10:2–3, where Israelites returning from Babylon vow to put aside their gentile wives and their children.[29][30] Since the Haskalah, these halakhic interpretations of Jewish identity have been challenged.[31]
December 11, 201015 yr Hm, I get it now. There's three types of Judaism: Culture, Ethnicity, and Religion. Unfortunately since they're so inter-mixed most of the time, plus they're all called the same things, people refer to it as one. Your quote, Zierro, doesn't specify whether or not "Jewish ancestral background" means culture or ethnicity. So in ways we are both right, both wrong, and both Jewish. Okay not really. Good thing I'm not a Jew (in the ethic and culture sense), so I don't have to put up with explaining to everybody that while I'm a Jew I'm not a Jewish religion follower. I still have to explain how Hispanics are not a race though. I think that's another thing that annoys the hell out of me. December 12, 201015 yr I really hate trying to look up Rainbow 6 (1998 PC game), and only being able to find RB6 Vegas. The whole classic gaming thing in general. Stores only carry the newest stuff, so if you want older games in the series your options are paying an absurd amount to a third party for a used copy or emulation. Even worse if the game in question wasn't released in your country. Movies, they keep making in new formats: You can get black and white movies on HD. Music, same thing. The Beatles are on Itunes, '30s Blues is on Pandora, and Last.Fm exists. Games, you're lucky if your new console can play your old one's games (Here's to you Nintendo). Steam, the Xbox arcade, the Wii Virtual Console, and whatever the PS3's download thing is called are steps in the right direction, but not perfect. Sort of a stepping stone to the kind of thing that would be awesome. Unfortunately for me by the time they perfect it I'll either be working or studying too much to be able to enjoy it. If anything drives me to piracy it won't be ridiculously expensive movies or music. It will be Fire Emblem. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr

Read as: "Nothing, I just want attention." Note the "read as" that it's not "meant as." For example, I dislike Christmas. Now I wouldn't go broadcasting it about, but if someone askedme I would tell them I'm not a fan. However, if they asked why I would say it's a long story, which I really mean it's personal and I don't wish to share it. But I don't want attention, I simply don't like Christmas, and don't wish to tell why. OTT (On that topic): can't stand people who literally say "hi. do you want to know why i am sad?" "k. it's just this cereal drama. like i really wanted my captain crunch but all they had was kanga-" "WHAT DID I JUST SAY!@@#@#!#*^!#%%&" And that's how it always go. December 13, 201015 yr In response to the entire quote chain before this post; what if somebody actually needs attention? I think we've all been in a situation where we need somebody to talk to.
