WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME

#1 Wongtong stalker.

Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!

so...where do you guys stand on the whole Nu-Metal debate? Personally, I love it, but seeing as how most of you like the sound of quadrouple bass pounding and pigs dying, I don't think you'll appreciate the whole branch of metal, and/or Rapcore.

Deftones is the only Nu-metal that I like. Diamond Eyes and White Pony are amazing albums. I don't care for "rapcore" though.

Deftones are pretty damn awesome. Other Nu-metal bands pale in comparison to them.

Also, what are all of your thoughts on Industrial? It's not metal per se, but there are some metal influences. It's personally one of my favorite genres, right up there with Screamo and Alt Metal. Besides Nine Inch Nails, some great bands are I:Scintilla, Tweaker, Skinny Puppy, and Celldweller. I guess it's more related to Electronica and Gothic music, but I think it still has its place in a discussion about Metal.

My favorites for Industrial are American Head Charge, Ministry, and Fear Factory. Good stuff right there.

Are you talking about The Panic Broadcast?? Yep, this album is soo goood. Soilwork impressed me with this new album

Yes I am. I'm going to go looking for it today. I don't know whether its out here yet or not, or whether anywhere will stock it. I will probably do a proper blog review when I do listen to it.

I'm pretty sure it is a parody of black metal, or at least the pirate metal genre started as one. Unless I'm wrong one of the early pirate bands labeled itself "True Scottish pirate metal" after a band called itself "True Norwegian black metal". So it's either a full-blown parody or just metal with a sense of humor.

Er what? There's no such thing as pirate metal and it certainly isn't a parody of anything. That's just Alestorm being all gimmicky cause it's cool.

While we're not on the subject of female fronted metal, ya'll need to hear this.

Also, Immolation name drop.

Saw Iron Maiden on the weekend :D

Not into metal much other than Maiden, Megadeth, and the occasional CoB.

Swashbuckle does the same thing. Wikipedia just calls them folk/power metal though. Seems that pirate metal is just the fan name for it.

This is what happens when you try to bring up things you barely remember from months ago onto a thread, people

I got The Panic Broadcast and listened to it. I liked it, but its melo-death and Soilwork so it was inevitable that I would like it, but I'll have a proper listen to it soon, and really get an idea of the album.

Speaking of Melo-Death, anyone like Raintime or Skyfire? I discovered them ages ago, and I think that Spectral by Skyfire is one of the finest albums ever recorded. And Raintimes cover of Beat It is just hilarious, but the rest of the Flies and Lies album kicks ass.

Amon Amarth - Gods of War Arise is always a good listen while pillaging villages.

Ah, Warning. I'm a bit ambivalent towards them at the moment - I loved the first two tracks off Watching From A Distance but the rest couldn't really hold my attention. I've been warming up to them more recently, but it's a slow process.

While we're on the topic of doom metal, anyone like Candlemass? Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is a true masterpiece.

I've decided I need to listen to more metal, my library is like 80% hip-hop now and I need to diversify. Anyone want to recommend me a band that's similar to Amon Amarth? They're the only metal band that I've listened to that I really like.

Something with growled vocals preferably, I'm not big on power metal vocals at all. Screaming would be ok though. I'm sure that's not enough information to make a solid recommendation on, but I'd appreciate it if someone would try anyways.

You'd probably get along well with most Swedish death metal. Amon Amarth is pretty much an ultra-melodic version of Dismember et. al..

Amorphis is Finnish but the first two are Swedish. Dismember is quite hardcore-influenced where the others are typically more epic and grandiose.

Anata is amazing. Haven't listened to the other two, but I will sometime.

Today I felt pretty epic, blasted some Ensiferum when I was driving around.

All three of those were great, thanks for the help.

Your thoughts on Viking metal?

Viking metal is like Pirate metal, its a little gimmick that all falls into the folk metal category. That said, I do enjoy me some good folk metal.

I'm not much into folk metal, i prefer them being apart, if anything.

And no, i didn't find those intros very similar. In any case, Anonymous Alcoholics released their album a year later than that other band.

Right, let's see... As i said on the first page i'm not much into metal atm, But let's see what you think about... Tankard!

With tracks like "Die with a beer in your hand", "666 packs", "Frankfurt: We needs more beer", "Space Beer", "For a thousand beers" you can't go wrong.
