The Metal Thread

I like gore/grind related metal best, Lord Gore's probably my favourite metal band but I like modern stuff like Cattle Decapitation too.

Hell yeah. Goregrind/Porngrind is probably right behind Brutal Death Metal when it comes to my favorite metal genres. Bands like Rompeprop, Mortician, Abominable Putridity, and Gonorrhea [kitty] are so sick.

Rompeprop: awesome, Mortician: gets old fast, Adominable Putridity: pretty good, but I prefer Abysmal Torment and Gonorrhea [kitty] are just boring.

I used to be the self-proclaimed metal elitist of here a while ago. Some people don't appear to have changed much, but there are plenty of new faces as well. Interesting. Anyway, my tastes have been very variable lately, with a lot of odd stuff like Primus and Les Claypool's other projects. Also a bit of Akira Yamaoka thrown in for good measure and electronic stuff. It always seems to come back to metal in the end. Listening to Anaal Nathrakh at the moment and it feels goooood.

After listening to this 10 minute masterpiece I now love symphonic metal.

Thats a pretty good song as far as Nightwish go, do you listen to much music like that? Bands such as Epica, After Forever, and Leaves Eyes?

I got Poetry for the Poisoned the other day. I'm not sure what to make of it. It's alright, but the first track is my favourite, and the title tracks are a bit of a let down, but its a good album, but I don't think its up to their previous standard.

I have a massive list of albums that I want to get when I have money. On that list is an album thats taken me forever to even find not online, which is the Hinderers by Daath. I love the Concealers and my friend says the Hinderers is better so I'm very looking forward to that.

I've tried 3 times today to listen to Clenching the Fists of Dissent by Machine Head, but to no avail, its too long and I keep getting distracted by other people and stop listening about half way through. Oh well.

Yeah and some ***hole deathcore fanboy at my school proceeded to slap my face and call me his [cabbage] because apparently he can't seem to handle the combination of an opera singer, choir, orchestra, and a metal band being heard in a single song.

I used to like Nightwish when I first started listening to metal (when I was like 14).

Than I grew up.

That being said I'm trying to actually think of a symphonic metal band I enjoy these days. It's hard to get a good clarification between power metal and symphonic metal. Rhapsody was always pretty decent I thought.

When it comes to my preference of metal I prefer songs that depict an epic battle rather than just deep screaming into the microphone about death in general for an entire 5-7 minutes.

There's plenty of that that's actually good though man.

Eh you would love Rhapsody if you haven't heard them yet.

I dub Nadril a music psychic. It's like knew exactly what music I like to listen to before I even listened to it in the first place.

And by that I mean artists I never even heard of.

^ Cool isnt a way to describe music really.

Well it's more a case of preferring interesting riffs+drums and some guy who's actually good at growling over listening to a guy wailing cheesy lyrics (all power metal vocalists sound the same) over some standard cheesy power chord + basic drum stuff in the usual verse-chorus-verse-etc structure while building up to the next [bleep]y solo.

wait wat

New Sigh is symphonic metal. It's not necessarily a power metal subgenre - pretty much anything with grand keyboard lines and other elements from classical music generally makes symphonic metal. It even has a bunch of sub-subgenres too. It's mad.

However, good symphonic metal isn't common, yeah. I liked Nightwish a lot too back in the day. You'd probably enjoy Kamelot too, Gallade - still enjoy their music almost four years later:

Yeah it's just that generally the two genres can sound a lot alike. Like there is a lot of kamelot songs that sound very power metal-like to me. Maybe I just confuse the two genres too much :P.

I agree that they're difficult to tell apart at points, but there are some that aclear cut examples of each style.

I'm loving 5 Finger Death Punch at the moment, can't stop listening to 'War Is The Answer' album.

Also, when I'm in the lab I can't stop listening to Eluveitie. I don't know what it is about that band but their music is so relaxing to listen to. Also, I need to get caught up on Suidakra, as I haven't listened to any of their albums in forever.

Also Raintime rule. I think their second album is better than their first, and their 3rd is also goood. I don't really know which track to suggest people listen to to get a decent listen of them, so I'll post 2. The first is an excellent cover song. Beat It, originally by Michael Jackson, but I prefer the Raintime version. The second, from the same album, a track called Rolling Chances. I hope you enjoy.

Everyone could always do with a Black metal/jazz hybrid band covering King Crimsons 21st Century Schizoid Man

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0j4WkoDrtg

They also happen to have put out one of my favourite albums this year, its terrifying in places but its musically very interesting.

Edit: I've listened to Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy today, and its grown on me, absolutely loving it. I didn't like it to begin with but now I'm really enjoying it and have began properly appreciating it.

REVIVING THE THREAD

I know jack [cabbage] about metal, just a recommendation from a friend that I thought was pretty sick.

That album sounds like a monkey taking a [cabbage] in a blender with a microphone. I much prefer their Eschaton-Present work.
