Why do people wear skillcapes?

I wear my slayer and agility capes because I am proud of them, simply. I cam back to rs exactly one year ago with none of these 99s and to me it's a great achievement. I won't bash your cape at all if you don't bash mine. For some people, 99 cooking is an achievement. For some people, 50m slayer exp is easy. If it's an achievement for you, you should wear your cape with pride.

Eh, I guess its because people want to be sure everybody can see their dedication and effort they have put in to this game or simply because they want to show everybody that they are better than them. (Which is kinda stupid because atleast I don't play this game to constantly compare myself to other players) I mean before qc and skillcapes it was hard to prove someone that you indeed have that 99 agility although I don't remember anyone caring about the '99's back then or atleast not as much as today. I wear my qp cape because it makes me feel like I've really achieved something in this game and tbh, I also like the design. Though I mainly I wear SW cape when ever killing monsters.

I highly doubt that everyone wears a skillcape to show others that they are better than them, but I do know that a small minority (at least it was small in my eyes) do actually do it to prove they're better.

I wear my cooking skillcape because I like the cape. I like it better untrimmed than trimmed, so that's why I haven't had a fire under my [cabbage] to trim it. Does anyone ask me for emote requests? Nope. Does anyone respect me for it? Nope. Do I care? Nope. I wear it because I like it, not because other people do.

I mainly wear my att or defence cape, cause I like them. Only use my firecape for Ice strykes or Clan wars.

I like the skillcape look over firecape, and cause i'm pround of my 99's

I don't know which mod did this. I don't know why they did it. If they're looking for money, I can tell them I don't have any as I'm a student. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over 4 years of RuneScape. Skills that I have worked hard for and people like them can't take them away. If they give me my particles back now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for them, I will not pursue them. But if they don't, I will look for them, I will find them, and they won't like what'll happen

The occasional "OMG I want your cape" keeps me wearing my slayer cape

This. I wear Fire cape/SW cape most of the time slaying/bossing. But if I am skilling, or just "dressing up" I wear my slayer/prayer/summoning cape.

Why feel ashamed to have 99 strength. Its still a level 99 isn't it?

I got 99 cooking first, and yet I still wear my cape and feel proud knowing I'm level 99.

I use soul wars cape mainly for slayer, in case I want to use some ultimate strength or piety, and My skill capes to show off.

On my level 70 member account (Well, it's not a member anymore) I wear my trimmed thieving cape because:

A) The trim is black, which matches the rest of my outfit. (Default black clothes, Dragon archer hat and gloves of silence)

B) I fail everytime I attempt to get a fire cape. :D

C) There's no way in hell I can beat Nomad with 70 Ranged and 22 Summoning.

It's one of the chompy hats. You have to kill 2250 chompy birds to obtain it.

That's me wearing the dragon archer hat (Without gloves of silence and Thieving cape). The RuneScape wiki has a complete gallery of all the 15 chompy hats. (And I'm on most of the images. :P 5/5 for viewing pleasure)

Seriously, is it too hard for some players to work for a better cape?

I wanted to stop reading as soon as I read this line.

Saying that there are "better" capes means you recognise that some capes have merits over other capes.

By recognising that the cape has merits, you are recognising a reason to wear it.

Meaning that I have no idea why you decided to make this topic.

OT: People do it because they can. There are innumerable reasons why someone would choose to but ultimately, it comes down to the fact that they can wear it, and therefore they'll find a reason why they should.

This post is more of a cry for affirmation than anything else.

Seriously, is it too hard for some players to work for a better cape? I've worn a construction skillcape for about 6-7 months when I finally decided there were too many players already wearing them so I worked on getting a firecape and it only took me 2 tries in 1 day.

So what happens when too many people start wearing fire capes? Or SW capes? When do you step off the treadmill and wear what you want for your own reasons?

Or do you go through your RS life constantly checking the pulse of the community to see what is currently hot & popular?

Introducing the latest fashion!!!

Are you tired of everybody wearing the same skillcape as you??

Are you sick of people asking if Jad was hard??

Are you fed up by people asking how you killed the Nomad?

Well, then this is just the cape for you:

A REGULAR BLACK CAPE@@

It doesn't yell "Look at me!" and most of all: It's almost free! All you have to do is kill a level five highwayman!

Now, how's that?

Well, I agree to some extent with OP that such capes as the strength cape do make me yawn when i see them, and forgive me if this seems rude. It is just the fact that so many people, often the kinds of people I wouldn't want to socialise with, wear them to get "reputation" and this just does not appeal to me.

Other skillcapes such as slayer are, generally, recognised and being "hot" or "admirable" - whether due to aesthetics, or the work behind them. I would ofcourse value these skillcapes more highly than the buyable, fast capes.

Please do not think that I am now limiting the "worthiness" of a cape to the ones that take the longest to obtain, I personally like the firemaking cape as it is a vibrant colour and the emote is very nice.

I am currently well on the way to untrimmed Dungeoneering, being 200k-ish from 98 at this moment in time. I want this cape becuase it will be the first major goal I have succeeded in egtting, I have the Firecape and SW Cape and do not see why these would in any way be superior to my Untrimmed Dg. The Dg cape looks very nice, the emote is very nice and it shows that I, unlike many people out there, classify Dungeoneering as a skill and give merit to the fact by spending months training it.

I hope that my post has contributed to this topic, unlike a few posts about chompy hats - surely a pm question could be appropriate and more on-topic?

Some of them do. The colours of the cooking cape (red and purple) don't really match IMO. :P

I think that's because the colors are so close on the color wheel.

The only thing it really even semi-matches with is full Dragon, but even that's not very close.
