Psychologist
Ugh, yea... And making them post of the forums somehow reduces this possibility for error? Nope, it just ensures that they'll look over the reset, and from there ban if necessary.

There should be a feature for players to use when/if they suspect players of botting..Like when mining ess... Saw lots of bots running back and forth by Varrock east bank, there was a shooting starand not one of them stopped to mine that one.. Who wouldn't?I was the second to get to the star and the other guy who found it had got it down 1 size on his own. That pretty much proof's to me that there was at least 15 bots running.. Logdotzip
I honestly would prefer a ban over a level reset. In actuality, a perm ban is really just a year-long ban.In the very off chance I would be willing to wait a year to continue playing, I guarantee it would take longer than one year to get the levels I have right now, again. Perm ban please my youtube

Kimberly
So, wait...I thought there was a picture a few pages back saying this was a bug? Is this still happening as an active form of punishment? And are they saying anything about it yet?

Nope, it just ensures that they'll look over the reset, and from there ban if necessary. Jagex already has knowledge of there own system, asking for people to post of the forums and THEN banning them, would be both redundant and idiotic when they can just ban them normally. Crit_Chicken
I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but they used to do stat wipes in RS Classic. And so many bots had [Level - 1], and you knew who the bots were. On the other hand, if your falsely blamed, and then wiped, there would be possibility of Jagex losing money if someone was to rage and quit the game, so its not a good idea on their part. |

Maximusa
This is really really annoying. I actively stop bots with cannons so they gain no xp. I know it takes 4+ weeks for them to get banned and when they changed the punishment to only a temp ban I began using cannons to stop them gaining even a slight amount of xp while I continued to train normally nearby. So atleast they actively had alot less xp when they got unbanned. Basically now they neither get banned and I am wasting my time and can do nothing but watch them for week after week after week cheating as I play the game. Then still not get banned at the end of it.. if they even get caught. This week I been actively stopping a botter for like 5 hours a day for 5 days out of 7 of this week. He has been reported by a minimum of 8 people including 1 mod. He came online again today and once again I blocked him. For the first time ever he actually came online and spoke.. then logged. I stop anywhere from 1 to 5 or more a day. Last sunday I actively stopped (until owner hopped) 9 of them. But thats basically pointless now yet they probably still wont get caught and even if they are they aint banned. So sure it was ultimately pointless anyway but it sure made me feel better when I am training normally and got someone nearby cheating. I can either watch them or stop them. wormy
Level reset makes sense to me(along with bank clear), for the following reasons.1. They are not making new names taking up space on Jagex's servers.2. If they are resetting I would imagine Jagex would keep a closer eye on that particular character. Ginger_Warrior
Cost of getting 99 Magic legitimately:100+ Hours of YOUR time Cost of getting 99 Magic botting:~1-2 Hours combined time setting up the bot.People have used cheats and bots for ages. RuneScape certainly isn't the first game to have ever been "cheated" by those who can't be bothered putting in the hard hours. Difference is before online gaming really came about over the past decade, any 'hacks' were kept to local networks, and most competitions involving hacks were unofficial. The cheats largely kept to those local networks, separating them from those who gamed legitimately. The problem here is that there's no "local network" for such players in RuneScape. His motive for botting was to get 99 Magic - who doesn't want that? If there was a limited sandbox version of RuneScape where you could just 'give' yourself 99 Magic, then legitimate players in the "real" RuneScape wouldn't be disadvantaged. You sometimes get the impression with Jagex, is that they have their ideal world and won't compromise in trying to make it. They need to realise that no amount of Draconian measures will make players like ForSandG conform to their exacting standards and spend hundreds of hours chasing what they want. Unless they've found the secret to mind control, it is delusional to expect that tactic to work. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Logdotzip
My friend made a video explaining the level resets that have been going on, and was contacted by Jagex and forced to remove the video, citing the level resets as being "a bug currently being looked into". king_muumuu
Some foul language [cabbage] like this makes me lose faith in Jagex. Not more than 2 years ago they came out with this newpost stating their detection systems are now so advanced they can even know the version of the bot that's being run, a few months ago they supposedly strengthened their anti-bot policy and now ban botters permanently. This guy claims he ranged botted for 4 months 24/7 and his ranged has not been touched. How can he bot straight for 4 months without any detection if their systems are so great? My IRL friend has been botting for quite some months already and his account is fine and dandy.I've seen videos on youtube by a guy that investigated botting (can't remember his name) by going into botter forums and such and people there get banned for 3 days, or 2 weeks, but not permanently (WHEN they actually get banned, which doesn't happen that often). Seriously Jagex...

Hajutze
I've said it before I'll say it again - Jagex Anti-Bot system is bull-crap. I made a bot for a friend, with it he god 99 crafting, smithing, cooking and fletching while sleeping. Needless to say his account is still fine (my account is still fine ... I had to test the bot somewhere =/). Anyways either they leave the members .. since .. you know .. we pay, they delay the ban (for the same reason - 4 months later = 20$+ more) or they are just pretty much lieing =/.
