Ancients vs Lunar

Brett0wnz

Recommended Posts

I have some questions about the alternative spellbooks. Those would be Ancients and Lunar. Here are my questions:

1. What spellbook should you be on for your everyday RuneScape playing (could even be normal spellbook)?

2. What are the main uses for Ancients?

3. What are the main uses for Lunar?

4. Why do you prefer whatever spellbook you are on right now?

And if anyone else has just some generic information about the uses of alternative spellbooks, please feel free to add them!

Thanks!

Personal preference, I prefer Lunar.

2. What are the main uses for Ancients?

For me, the combat spells.

3. What are the main uses for Lunar?

Farming runs, veng for PVP.

4. Why do you prefer whatever spellbook you are on right now?

I am always on Lunar, unless I need another spellbook for a quest. I find the teleports to Catherby and the fishing guild to be of good use while farming, and the fertile soil spell eliminates my need for supercompost. I can easily spellbook swap to teleport anywhere, but I use teleport tabs (normal and chipped) to get to common places such as Varrock and Falador. I also use contact NPC to get new slayer assignments.

Without 96 mage I'd choose normal spellbook because of farming. (Someone told me trollheim tabs were released with the nex update and I'm pretty sure I got trolled. Anyone know about this?) I'm on ancients right now because of rock lobsters, and I'll switch to lunars when I'm done because I should have 96 mage. Lunars with 96 means I can tab to 4 patches and spellbook swap to trollheim, and use supercompost and cure disease.

Ancients is fun in fog and other pvp, and is great for rock lobsters.

Lunars can be used for runecrafting, good noncombat magic xp, and vengeance.

At lower mage levels definitely got to be normal for everyday, but once you hit the higher levels and have done assorted quests/extras (eg getting chipped tele tabs) lunar wins.

2. What are the main uses for Ancients?

Ancients is useful for nothing but fighting. Ancients are pure and simple combat magic.

3. What are the main uses for Lunar?

Lunars are skilling magic, if you wanna mage fight I'd ditch em. But they are pretty useful for various skills, most specifically slayer (contact npc) and farming (fertile soil) plus if you have spellbook swap and the right stuff unlock lunars gives the fastest routes to all farm patches

Trollheim tabs were released with the update, you have to take something from Keldagrim to the Wise Old Man to unlock the ability to chip them but they are quite useful.

1. What spellbook should you be on for your everyday RuneScape playing (could even be normal spellbook)? I prefer the normal spellbook, but it's really a personal preference

2. What are the main uses for Ancients? Combative spells (bursting rock lobs/ape atoll monkies/cw/etc)

3. What are the main uses for Lunar? String Jewelry, Plank Make, Hunter Kit (for training), monster examine (could just be a crew thing, but it comes in handy), fertile soil

4. Why do you prefer whatever spellbook you are on right now? I'm too lazy to make teletabs, really the only reason I use the normal spellbook

I was under the impression you have to chip a different tab (not sure which one) to make it redirect you to trollheim.

i always use lunar. i rarely switch to either normal or ancients because i have spell swap if i need that one tele or spell. however if you were more into combat magic ancients would be more for you as stated above.

On the trollheim issue:

Its not a lie.

Go to keldagrim east, go in the house northeast of the pub.

Speak to the dwarf in there about adventuring and such it comes up bout wom u get a diary.

Go to wom in draynor, speak to him choose the diary option he takes it and reads it.

He then teaches you how to chip home tele tablets into trollheim tablets.

You have to of done Love Story first (so u have chipped tablets in the first place)

"The Trollheim tablet is a modified House tablet that is created by using a chisel on a normal House Teleport tablet. It teleports the caster just outside to the same location as the Trollheim Teleport spell. To make this item, you must have completed Love Story, and taken a Miner's diary to the Wise old man in Draynor. The diary can be obtained by speaking to Runvastr in East Keldagrim." ~ RSWiki

And thanks to all who responded! I'm going to be doing Lunar Diplomacy and Desert Treasure for quest requirements, but I'll probably stay on normal spellbook until 96 magic. (My main uses for magic atm are teleports)

I take normal teleport anyday..

Really the convenience of high alchemy is so big....

And the teleports from lunar aren't that usefull (skill necklace to fishing guild is the same, and camelot is very close to catherby farming patch).

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I use normal magic because I'm used to it. Lunars are nice, but since I don't farm with them anyway, they're pointless.

1. What spellbook should you be on for your everyday RuneScape playing (could even be normal spellbook)?

Depends on what you usually do. Ancients for pking/bursting lobs; lunars for ZMI, farming, slayer (NPC contact, not mage slayer), and non-combat mage training; Normal for teles and high-alch

2. What are the main uses for Ancients?

See number 1

3. What are the main uses for Lunar?

See number 1

4. Why do you prefer whatever spellbook you are on right now?

I'm on lunars for NPC contact because I mainly slay right now. I have no need for ancients right now and all the teleports I need are in my POH which I also use to recharge prayer after every task.
