Bonus XP Weekend

Recommended Posts

Please not this has not been confirmed by Jagex yet.

(...but previous weekends have been announced 2 - 3 weeks in advance)

EDIT: Confirmed!! 11 - 13th March

Following suit of the last 2 Bonus Exp Weekends is it a fair assumption we should expect to see another one in March?

The first one was held on the 12th March 2010, and the next one six months later.

It's the 12th February as i type, so technically this could happen within the next month.

Having somehow managed to buy supplies too late before previous events i thought I would make this thread to give tipiters a 'heads up' I have already banked all of my supplies i plan to sell before the event before they explode in price

Do you think Jagex will release another Bonus XP Weekend?

Have you started planning yet?

What will you train?

Will the update of free trade effect things?

Discuss/Speculate. (Thought this event warranted it's own thread, I am aware of the future updates thread)

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

I'm probably going to train RC or thieving.

No plans on buying anything, because i always fail with speculating and end up losing moneys.

I'd think it more likely Jagex will do more Hati Wolf style events than do more Bonus Xp weekends given the feedback they've received from the previous 2 weekends. It would make it fairer for everyone if that were the case. That being said, I've got several months of herbs from MTK in my bank just in case they do throw another one our way :P

Pretty sure Hati was the bonus xp weekend.

In my opinion that would not be completely fair for people who do not like training combat if that's the case.

Well if it turns out to be correct then it is likely that they will do a similar event for skillers later in the year.

There will be Sköll, Hati's brother who is trying to eat the sun (Hati is trying to eat the moon,) and he will probably drop skiller gloves.

Yeah I thought hati was made to replace xp weekends because of all the negative feedback about buyables. If we do get another one I'l just do agility or something else non buyable, ended up hardly saving anything on herby last time anyway because of everything being bought out. I thought hati was better anyway cos it didn't encourage you to no life, you got your set amount of xp and that was it.

I think its bad to create hype like this.

There is no reason to believe there will be another one; the two that did happen had randomly picked dates that had nothing to do with timing to one and other and we haven't even had confirmation that there will be another let alone if being anytime soon.

I think there will probably be another bonus xp weekend. It's true that Jagex has already released Hati, but last year's weekend was held during March break to encourage large numbers of North American kids in school to renew their membership while they had time off. Given the recurrence just as school started back up in September, Jagex was clearly pleased with the results on their membership figures.

If any already-released update diverts a bonus xp weekend in March, it will be the wilderness, not Hati. However, since it would be hard to predict the number of players who will re-join for a bonus xp weekend yet not for P2P wilderness combat, they'll likely hold another weekend as a test to find out, if nothing else.

Edit:

[...] the two that did happen had randomly picked dates that had nothing to do with timing to one and other [...]

Definitely not true. The dates were very clearly selected to align with North American school schedules.

Erm sure cause its not like any kid at a normal school anywhere is able to play on any weekend.

Plus they ran march and sept. Sure march sometimes is easter, but usually not early march.

And last i checked even in american school starts at the start of sept, so its not in the holidays as such.

Plus the obvious factor of not every single school runs the exact same dates for holidays and the fact jagex english so wouldn't have an extremely clear reference of when american school holidays are falling. And the last time they gave us statistics it was clear the majority of the member base was atleast 16+ which makes targetting school age kids a bit of an odd move etc.

I said North American school schedules because those coincided with the actual bonus XP weekend. The weekend was not positioned, for example, to line up with British Easter holidays. Although the North American market is the largest segment of their player base to target relating to these dates, there are probably other places in the world holding March break at the same time, I just don't know which places.

In the age of the internet it's not hard for a company in England to find out when North American schools are holding March break; it's fairly coordinated. If I recall correctly they chose the weekend that fell at the end of some schools' breaks and the beginning of others; they caught the majority of schools anyway.

As for the September date, I was surprised at first as well, since I has expected it to be held earlier in the summer. Only in hindsight did I realize that they were avoiding holding the weekend when some of those targeted kids might be away from home on various trips, etc. They instead held it early in the new school term to catch them early and (hopefully) keep them hooked on Runescape as a habit for the new school term.

As for why they're targeting like this I can't say for sure. These schedules don't mean the same thing for me as their target market. I would guess that they chose the dates this way because it's one of the only large segments of their player base which has similar signicant dates in their schedules. I.E. what other spring date would be better for a larger number of players? If there's no clearly superior alternative, then March break seems to be a choice that works fairly well. The September date also works for university/college students, but I don't think there's any similarly good date in the spring.

I'd like to think we will be expecting another, as they are very useful!

However I find it very unlikely. Hati was supposed to be something of a replacement, despite many players not benefiting from it in the slightest. Your best bet is to check the RSOF

I'm not too sure... I sometimes look at my skills and think - damn I need to raise you. But my plans would probably be get mining to 75, then herblore after that to 96, then just slay and make sure I have a bloodveld task first.

^This^.

The last time they did a bonus XP weekend, I was shocked at the amount of negative feedback in the RSO forums.

If they do, and I for one hope they do, I'll probably be smart this time and focus on the skills I find most annoying, such as Slayer, Agility and such. The first weekend I was dumb and did the skills I liked, which put me behind in the skills I can't stand, and the second one I did the "hard" skills which was also dumb because I kind of enjoy the harder to train skills for some reason.

<------ Thinks another Bonus XP weekend will come within the next 3 months. Will also keep a note on this thread to bring it back when it is announced.

Those are my secret thoughts, oops.

Anyway, I enjoy Bonus XP weekends because I do not always have time to train certain skills that I want to, and the weekends (of which I actually have time to play RS) offer a time to "catch up" on training.

Also, when it happens, lvl 80 Agility, here I come. I am too poor to afford anything else anymore.

This would also not be fair to maxed cbs like me.
