In a nutshell...The Kalinka retreated with somewhat heavy losses and the crew attacked engineering, where traitors were planning to blow up the ship to ensure the colony was not established. After some time Albert(ico) lead a charge into Engineering, throwing stun grenades and whatnot. Jac (Grim) then arrived to help and Albert passed out a few times.

 

Then Albert got lunch and discussed trade agreements and what not with the captain of the Sarlane. Coming to a mutually benefical agreement.

Meanwhile Earth woke up trapped in the brig with the traitors. Grim eventually went to get him free, though the traitors rushed him and knocked him out. Earth walked out, did some repair work, then returned and was knocked out while trying to free Jac (If only someone had told all those hostage negotiator they could just walk in a grab the hostages, could have saved a lot of time).

Jon(Paul) then helped subdue the traitors with sleeping gas.

 

While all this was going on Peri (Nex) and Vasiliy (Nero) were fighting. I believe because Nero was being somewhat sexist and Peri took exception. Though I think you were there for that.

Actually, this isn't a problem, going into court. I have an alibi, with Volta and Albert as witnesses. There's no motive, if they look through my records they'll find that I am incapable of so much as defending myself with firearms, hence I had no reason to break in. The prisoners were escaping when said crime was committed, they could easily have wanted to rearm themselves. I even have other charges to plead guilty to, one involving the assault and temporary death of a senior officer, so they'll know I'm not trying to get off free. I could probably even successfully pin it on Vasily, if I wanted, though Archi wouldn't have him punished.

I think I may just have realized a way that Arc reactors could work without breaking the laws of physics.

A ring of a very highly conductive metal is surrounded by a coil of any highly conductive metal (silver, copper, gold or aluminum), with a piece of highly negatively ionic metal in the middle. The coil is connected to a step-up transformer and the whole thing is encased, wires are drawn out of the encasing from the transformer and the whole thing is supercooled. What happens then is that the ring becomes superconductive, leading to a free electrical current, it draws electrons from the ionic metal to afford letting loose photons to induct a current in the surrounding coil, that coil then has medium voltage at [voltage/resistance] current (since the inner coil has seemingly infinite current due to superconductivity), that is then stepped up again to high voltage and lower current out of the device. The ionic metal will have to be replaced every once in a while (but not often) due to decay from the loss of electrons.

Theoriatically sound, but the energy required to supercool the thing, along with the other processes, would probably outweigh the energy produced, so you would have a net loss.

That would depend on the metal the ring is made from, if we find a metal with half the Rho of silver then it would be way closer to practical. I did say very highly conductive.

One question, does it take the full sum of merits to raise a talent from one level to another (ie raise a level 2 talent to a level 3 would still cost 2,000) or is it cumulative (ie a level 2-3 raise would cost 1,000 merits)

level to 4 = 2000

level to 5 = 2500

And it wouldn't generate a huge amount of energy...since you would only draw out the number of electrons present in the ionic material.

 

So say you had 5 kilos of Copernicum, which was some how stablised, then you would have 112 electrons per atom.

It has an atomic weight of 285...so 5 kilograms would be 17.5 Mols.

Meaning 10,526,315,789,473,684,210,526,315 Electrons

Resulting in total energy of -1,684,210.5 Columbs

 

As such the total number of Amps that can be discharged is 1,684,210.5 discharged over a time period.

 

Conversely, if you had Hydrogen, so 5,000 Mols in 5 kilos.

3,007,518,796,992,481,203,007,518,571 electrons

Resulting as -481,203,007 Columb

 

So the total energy to be discharged would be 481,203,007.5 Amps, over a period.

 

Meaning that a less massive material (Since a heavy metal has more electrons, but also more protons and neutrons, thus resulting in less electrons per gram) would be preferable.

 

Anyway.

The resistance would be inversely proportional to time taken to discharge(So higher voltage takes less time to discharge)... So the whole system would produce approximately 1,684,210.5 or 481,203,007.5 Watts.

So that is 1-400 Megawatts per 5 kilograms of Hydrogen...assuming a perfect conversion, which would probably be harder with Hydrogen than Copernicum.

Though the energy would have to be captured in someway.

No, you didn't 'apprehend' me because that implys that you took me into your custody to stop be commiting a crime. You simply murdered me without any information about the situation, I was going to use my skill in item creation to create a turret to attack the Kalinki but I instead got murdered. You can't say I was stealing, the only information you had at the time was that I was carrying weapons.
