Zaaps1
I usually play with public chat on friends, but when I'm skilling I'll sometimes turn it on to see if anyone's accusing me of being a rapist botting. When I see that they are, I start ridiculing them for griefing other people, etc, and they always end up apologizing profusely. Good fun.Share please. ~It's Super Effective! lordkafei
I feel that if you don't want to talk, don't want to work together, don't want to use the multiplayer aspect.. You're wasting a spot in a multiplayer game.. If Jagex shared your point of view, there would be no option to turn off public chat. There is indeed such an option. No one is obliged to engage you in conversation. "MMO" doesn't mean players have to be joined at the hip in cooperative gameplay. Competitive gameplay against those other players in a concurrent fashion is just as much "MMO." Edwardaido
Usually I won't talk, just because there's no one else to talk to. And a lot of the time I'll see people having a conversation, but I'd rather listen to it than actually talk, haha. I don't mind it though, and I can't remember ever being called a bot. probably been reported before though :P
Carl
I rarely train, My_Eggs. And I suppose I didn't word that correctly. I'm talking about repeating the same steps, over-and-over. Following the same line when training, etc. Not just grinding away at a skill. I.e. running around the same area for over an hour while halting at a certain spot for so many seconds within that hour. Yeah, that's the sign of a bot - or someone who has a few screws loose, to me. Or someone who isn't paying much attention and making mistakes clicking. Eh, lets not try and find little problems...For your sake, I'll even make a pretty picture for you. If you spend over an hour running between those two points, without changing course or touching the bank, and moving spot at the same exact intervals (As I said, every few seconds), then it's down to more than just "mis-clicking" while training. LinkOlaran
To start with, why the hell should I waste my time talking to the morons and idiots following me while I'm training? To satisfy their witch-hunting 'curiosity' as to whether or not I'm botting? I think not, I have better things to do than to bother with morons, thank you. Oh, and if anyone actually reported me for not bothering to talk, then they'd end up getting an earful from me, probably with lots of profanities. Yes I am a cranky bastard sometimes. Deal with it, I say :P That being said, I do usually talk whenever I can. If I happen to be fm'ing or something and I really can't skill and talk, then I won't bother responding. If I'm doing something that I have even a tiny amount of time to respond, I will - but usually only when someone asks a question, or is talking directly to me. I generally don't end up starting conversations, due to the above morons that seem to fill every world nowadays. Above meaning earlier in my post, and not earlier on this page, btw :P
Triquos
I'm not really a people person, so occasionally from time to time I will turn my 'public chat' to 'friends', especially when someone gets on my nerves or does something really cruel to me. When I have public turned to 'off' or 'friends' and players accuse me of botting because I don't reply back, that is their problem. Their report will just be wasted. I think people who report others just because they don't reply back is just plain ignorance. We all need a bit of space occasionally.

Winarr
I left before the clan chat system came in and came back to rs shortly after, big big difference between public chat while skilling now. Pre CC it was common to talk while ranging fire giants/fishing/wcing etc, however the CC has taken some of the social aspect out of the game. Which isn't really a bad thing as it avoids conversations with mouthbreathers who try to convince you that fishing shrimps is absolutely the best fish xp in the game. Now a lot of people seem like bots because they either don't like answering stupid questions/talking to people they dont know or are just talking in their cc (unnoticeable to the wannabe mod), thus the elbow-reflex report. TL:DR CC's killed off the majority of public chat

TL:DR CC's killed off the majority of public chat While clan chats may have reduced public chat, I certainly don't think they reduced the social aspect of the game; just the opposite. Now in addition to having the option to chat with people who happen to be training at the same place you are, you can also chat with a group of friends who you have things in common with. This is certainly far more versatile than private messaging. Unless I'm training in a highly click-intensive skill like hunter, runecrafting, etc, I'm usually able to chat with people in my clan, no matter where I am. That makes the game a lot more social in my opinion. Alphanos

Synthox
This isn't really a concern for anyone, at least it shouldn't be. Getting falsely reported for botting doesn't do anything to them or you. Ignore it and it won't go away, but it won't bother you anymore. TT rewards: 2 ranger boots, Zamorak page 1 (2x), Guthix page 1, Ancient page 2 You must construct additional oak larders doors... Youmu
I'm the type of guy that loves to put on a few chats with random players. Because face it, without them, training would just be a big massive grind and I would turn into a robot before I get any 99's. Though, I seem to talk more in clan chats recently... but nevertheless, if people want to talk to me in public, I'll respond back. ;) BlogTrimmed | Master Quester | Final BossBoss pets: Bombi | Shrimpy | Ellie | Tz-Rek Jad | Karil the Bobbled | Mega Ducklings120s: Dungeoneering | Invention
dargonhuman
No one still answered my suggestion: why not play a single player game if you deliberatelly don't want to involve with any user interaction? Because most single player games don't offer the nearly-unlimited and varied gameplay options that RS does. Only a handful of games even come close, and I can't afford to buy them, and most of them wouldn't run as good on my pc as rs does. So, wide variety of gameplay + affordable price + runs well on my computer = why I play and shun the "MMO" aspect. If a game were to come out that was strictly single player, offered the same amount and variety of open-ended content - with updates - and was just as affordable, hells yea I'd go play that instead. That game, however, doesn't exist yet, so I have to "waste a multiplayer space". Which is a bogus sentiment to begin with, as I pay my monthly fee which gives me just as much right as you or anyone to play any which way I choose to play, whether you approve or not. Dark_Yeng
While playing Runescape... Some players get butthurt and feels rejected because I don't reply back to them. No, seriously, I usually take screenshot of their "accussed of botting" comments and mind my own business. I lol'd at some of the pix I took. 2002 - 2003 RuneScape Classic Clans: Wild Dawgs (WD). TrueBeaver
I play RuneScape purely for the social (clan) aspect. Paradoxically, I rarely talk in game and normally keep my public on friends. I find the vast majority of players annoying. I could care less if people think I'm botting or whatever, but it'd be hard.
