Resistance
Nex who is going through something that you have apparently not done. (Or you may have and it has left you SO emotionally scarred that you have become a misogynist and very pessimistic). I have experienced a crush on a girl and it didn't turn out very well (13) but I'm definately not going to go into that. Asking a girl out definately isn't the most nerve-wrecking thing in the world and although I can understand immediate sadness and mild depression for up to two months afterwads there is certainly no need for any melodrama. Apart from that I've avoided relationships, not because I am bitter about losing the girl I once loved, but because I don't think that at this age I should be wasting time with unproductive relationships. I've never put focus into anything but love and fun, and I'm cruising through school with above-avarage grades. But that's because you are are naturally good at the subjects you are doing. Nexaudro has said: my grades suck. And then claimed that having a girlfriend would give him better exam results then revising.
Ieyfura
Res...if you follow that mindset, sure, you'll be successful. But damn, you are going to be one lonely, little man. Resistance
My philosophy is 'work now, play later', at this present moment I have important exams and next year I will have even more important exams. I will begin seeking for a girlfriend at a convenient time, not when it is likely to be a massive hinderence to my education.

Resistance
Could somebody possibly help me work out an economic system to help me work out a players budget? I'm a bit stuck and don't really have a clue what to do. Due to the nature of the game I need to create three seperate systems and I also need to make sure that they are balanced, this could simply just be a matter of word replacement though. -- If space v2 starts I will almost certainly join. Nexaduro
OR all work and no play makes Archi... So it might not turn out that bad. :P Anyways, not so sad. Sarah and I hopefully will still try and get the SCA to do fencing classes, and it would be easier to stab someone with a rapier if they're not your girlfriend. Another friend made a kissy face while I was talking to her, and we both gave them a glare and kept talking, so that's a good sign for our being friends if we're already over it. 10:53 PM - retech9691: I feel the need10:53 PM - retech9691: To include many chasms in my story arc10:53 PM - Resistance: You mean plotholes? archimage_a
Sigh...Have you ever played a roleplaying game? I find they often include your name. The only significant advance it has made is identifying a small dialogue chain...Or, more likely, it is just programmed to take a sentence like 'Mine's Mathis' as an Idenitification line...since you are unlikely to say 'Mine's Mathis' to anything else... I am vaguely impressed by the programmers...thats about it. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts. Icuownage
Not an AI Not an AI Not an AI Not making progress Not an AI It's a REALLY big shaft.I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time? Seraphi
That seems like pretty simple programming if you ask me. All cleverbot does is prove that it is possible to create a program which writes itself. Yes, it is a rudimentary AI, no, it is not, or cannot, ever be more than that: Rudimentary. Hell, I could probably write a program which writes itself in the same way, and I'm only a beginner at programming. The limitation with the system which it uses is that (I assume) it is using basic word substitution and recognition to create new parts of the program, so it will never learn what any of these things mean or what they are or do, just what to say in response to what you give it. The_Mather1
Actually that sentence could describe any object as well... if Mathias was an adjective. And unlike Cleverbot, roleplaying games often require you to use very specific sentances, even to the point of not accepting typos.Cleverbot actually made a sort of joke about how most command based software do not accept typos: "I never said anything about a jok. What is a jok anyway? How can a computer make a typo?" Twitter: @TheMather1
Resistance
Mathias, cleverbot saves past conversations. You have obviously used clever bot before and stated that you're name is Mathias. -- Could somebody possibly help me work out an economic system to help me work out a players budget? archimage_a
if Mathias was an adjective. If only there was some sort of collection of words, bound in some sort of a book, which would define all the words.Oh, a Dictionary.Since Mathis isn't a known word it is likely a Name. And humour just shows that it is programmed... I mean, its like going to a book and going 'This book is so intelligent, it says all these intelligent things!', just because someone is pointing to words in the book and you are only reading those words. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. The_Mather1
It doesn't save them (that would take a massive storage capacity), it does however learn from them somehow. Archi, a book doesn't flip open and highlight the approporiate text accoring to what you wrote. Twitter: @TheMather1
archimage_a
....the storage requirement would be so tiny. Each letter is worth 1 byte in Notepad...so 1,000 letters is 1 kilobyte and 1 megabyte is 1,000,000 letters, 1 gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 letters.I can host 8 Gigabytes of storage on the internet, for free, or I can store 1 TB for £25...thats 1 Trillion letters...law of averages that is 250 Billion words! If £1 buys 10 Billion words then its not a massive amount...now is it? http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. Seraphi
It doesn't save them (that would take a massive storage capacity), it does however learn from them somehow. You realise that a string data type requires an absurdly small amount of storage space? It learns from them by use of self continuing code. It looks for certain sentance patterns, looks for words within those patterns, and then saves those words for later use. Dim Nameline As String If Textline.Text = "Hello, my name is $Name$" Then Nameline = "$Name$"End If If Textline.Text = "What is my name?"Then Outputtextline.Text = "$Name$"End If The dollar signs are only there because I have forgotten the actual method to use that. It can be done though. No guarentees that this code will actually work if placed into a VB program, but you can understand the basic idea behind it. This demonstrates a program fragment that can, for all intents and purposes, learn your name. Does it know what a name is? Does it know that a name is a personal identifier? No, it knows that a name is a string data type which should be returned when Textline.text = "What is my name?" or any variation thereof.
The_Mather1
It would not be much if only one person was talking to it at a time, but there are at least 50-100 people talking to it at the same time on a slow day. And what exactly sepparates it from an intelligence? The only reason we can tell what a word means is because we have sight, smell, taste, feeling and sound to relate them to, the only thing Cleverbot can relate them to are other words and their position in sentences. The only thing I could think of were emotions, but then again it does replicate them, thus showing at least rudimentary understanding of them, proving some degree of advanced understanding. It can even define the term "self", so it can even be called sentient. Also by asking it, it will define itself as less valuable than a human. Even if it is unable to learn on its own accord, it is far more advanced than it apears to be at first glance. Ross, of course it uses variables to store short-term information, the advanced part is how it recognices triggers and choses variable. EDIT: Ok, that's just disturbing, it just replied to to a command in English, then erased and translated it to Norwegian, with nothing to imply that I'm Norwegian.
