Fork Handle

Noticed when you try to buy candles from shops you have:

Buy 1 candle

Buy 4 candle (instead of Buy 5 candle)

Buy 10 candle

Buy 50 candle

Buy 500 candle

And buying 4 candles costs no money and gives you a Fork Handle instead? It still removes 4 candles from stock.

I'm guessing jagex put out an unannounced update to express their growing cynicism. I am not surprised jagex would have some overflow of cynicism towards the people who seem to constantly rage over their percieved shortcomings.

I think the question is do you blame them for finally putting out a semi serious pun in response to the years of nagging customers?

I honesly don't. I think they have had some instances where they have lacked the understanding in terms of game play, but they generally do a good job.

Four candles/Fork Handles, okay...but what is that supposed to mean? Are they indicating how we keep misunderstanding something?

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

Back in my day Jagex could put easter eggs into the game and people would laugh. Today, people overanalyze things and make assertions that Jagex is making reference to their undereducated and slightly barbaric userbase. Dang kids these days....

my thoughts exactly, couldn't of put it better myself

It was an English comedy sketch years and years ago by Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker (who died in 2005).

It's brilliant, chances are though if you're American you might not find it as funny.

I'm not a kid and I've got quite a few years under my belt. I've been playing rs for a long, long time and hace seen plenty of jagex's Easter eggs and I don't believe it was coincidence they put this one in at a time like this. Now I'm sure you might think so.

Yes because the logical assumption here is that a random Easter egg reference to a Two Ronnies comedy sketch *must* have some hidden meaning and nefarious purpose! It's not like the new shop format happened to give them a chance to slip it in so they did, that would make sense!

Why couldn't you assume jagex tried to kill two birds with one stone? Now I'm not stating that it MUST have a hidden meaning, but c'mon they could have done something else. I mean jagex is a business and if they made an honest attempt and showing serious cynicism it would further tarnish their image. What better way than to put it in as one of their in game quirks.

How on earth is a joke in a singular shop remotely killing two birds with one stone? It kills no birds because people are still unhappy about SoF and no-one is delusional enough to think such a tiny Easter egg could change that. Besides the joke doesn't even carry and cynical connotations, at least not any pertaining to the issue you try and link it to. The joke it makes is based on phonetically similar phrases where by four candles sounds the same as fork 'andles, there just isn't anything there that can logically make it any sort of commentary or w/e about the SoF stuff.

If there's anything cynical going on here it is plain and simple players taking a cynical view on things and subsequently reading ridiculously things into a throw away joke.

It's pure and simple the shop upgrades saw them going through stock items to deal with making the descriptors and such, which meant they had the chance to slip in a little joke when they came to the candles.

I think people are under-estimating just how big a thing the 'Fork Handles' sketch is in England, very few English people that I know would have seen the title to this topic and thought of anything else. I think it's great that Jagex continue to put in little Easter Eggs like this and there is NO meaning to it whatsoever past a cultural reference. I mean they even name quests 'Hunt for Red Raktuber' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099810/), they obviously have always enjoyed doing this and I personally enjoy these little things they do. I don't know how people can get so 'tinfoil-hat, moon landing conspiracy'ish over something as small and light-hearted as this!

We don't need your unwarranted, and frankly what seems to be disparaging responses. Did anyone even call you a child in the first place? It's not going to surprise me if they did though, since you're acting that way, but I digress. Easter Eggs are put in for laughs - for recreation, so why must you assume that they must be for some nefarious purpose, or with some underlying meaning?
