If you say H/c x2 in game you will be muted. (Taken from Reddit)

Please tell me why I deserve the mute? I don't spam and I don't use offensive language. Therefore I have broken no rules.

Regardless of whether it is a written rule, Jagex has already well established through small updates and on the forums that they don't like gambling clans, don't support them, and would be removing both the gambling methods and the people using them. The people getting muted because of this have essentially stood on the railroad tracks watching the train come in, and then complained when they were run over. You're not going to find much sympathy from Jagex or players because many of us are absolutely sick and tired of walking into the GE and seeing masses of people standing around going "h/c 2x legit join cc xXxpwnsj00xXx."

Even if you weren't part of it, the very basis of your gambling has ruined the game for many people, including myself, and it has spawned nothing but trouble for the community and for Jagex. And I caught crap a few months ago when I said it was Jagex's fault for introducing the dice that sparked this widespread gambling, and now it's the community's fault for making it as bad as it is. So anyone banned/muted for running a gambling clan gets no sympathy from me, because I would have banned you the minute you lit the torch, not wait until the whole [bleep]ing village is burning down like Jagex has a tendency to do.

Hit me last night. Complete Bs that they mute with zero evidence and without it being against any rules. I'm petitioning support from [email protected] for a free month of membership for my kids inconvenience of being muted for 48 hours for doing nothing wrong.

Peace,

Vann

You deserve the mute, if it was up to me you would be banned.

Please tell me why I deserve the mute? I don't spam and I don't use offensive language. Therefore I have broken no rules.

As for being banned. I have done nothing to constitute a ban(scamming/rwt/botting) so don't tell me I deserve a ban when you don't know me

See the problem here is your completely ignorant to the fact that a large majority of players view gambling as part of the down fall of the game they love.

It doesn't matter if you're "legit" or have never scammed anyone, you're purpetuating the problem.

[/hide]

As for being ignorant, I am aware that the game is split on views of gambling. But regardless of players views, Jagex should give warning before mass muting hosts who aren't breaking the rules. The reason I'm mad about being muted (and have every right to be) is because I did nothing against the rules. If Jagex made it against the rules then I would stop.

Don't judge me for playing the game how I want to play it within the rules set by Jagex because I don't judge you for how you play the game. As long as gambling is legal I will continue to host regardless of other players views as I have every right to as a paying member (since 2005) and long time player (2001) since it is within the rules and terms of service I agreed to.

I'm not in the least bit surprised about this. I read (through somebody else) a post on the moderator forums encouraging Player Moderators *by a JMod* to report gambling hosts wherever they see fit, and at their own discretion - not to say it's 100% against the rules and ought to be reported at any possible opportunity but at their own discretion. This I think is an important factor. The Player Moderators are given the choice, and quite rightly so. It's a grey area which some players are completely against, and some aren't.

The fact that Vann is angry, I understand simply because this was a hidden update, I think it should have been made more clear, similar to other rule changes in the past. As somebody stated earlier, if it was to be made fully against the rules many player would no longer host for fear of losing their account.

~Edit: as Vann stated in the post above me, it's not entirely fair to judge how the game is played when it is within within the rules - this is a problem. It should be enforced fully, or not at all. No grey areas.

The major issue isn't so much the gambling, especially when it is merely what many players would consider to be petty cash, i.e, 10-20m. But when the stakes are in the billions, this attracts further black markets such as GP sales and such. For example, somebody I know has accumulated over $128,000 USD on a popular black market website by buying and selling RSGP, mostly from an ex-gambling clan who are liquidating their "mules" - THIS is the major issue, not the occasional petty gamble, which will always occur one way or another, via any method such as staking, PvP (death match) or in-game gambling methods.

Shouldn't this be in rant section ?

Don;t think gambling should be any matter of Jagex policy, as bots ruin economy way more than players who like participate such entertainment. Neither it's bad or good as that is only game.

Vann just tease everyone here with his stick, good job mate :]

It's not a rant, there's a lot of general discussion value, and this will undoubtedly go off-topic. It should certainly be a question of Jagex' policy as they have been very unclear and have once again decided to sit on the fence and let the natural course of actions take place. Vann isn't teasing per se, he's stated why he feels how he does, and not getting caught up too much in the nonsense. On one hand I respect Vann, and on the other I respect the PMod who muted him. That's the nature of grey areas - lose-lose situation. Shame on Jagex.

Apparently, Jagex disagrees about that being against the rules.

There is no reward for play poker sites as everyone just chip dumps. And the few real money sites that take US players (Lock, Carbon, etc.) are sketchy and have 3-6 month payout times. So basically, no real poker in the states.

Now there are a few sites (ACEplay, Attack, FUG, HWP) that give prizes, but my state is one of the excluded states.

Aside from the fact that advocating gambling in real life helps no one, its a poison because 90%(made up statistic but I don't give a shit) of people are too stupid and irrisponsible to gamble safely. However, I'd gladly give up the current for of gambling in game if they implemented an ingame casino as it would have positive benefits in the ways of removing GP from the economy.

That said, I'd rather they came up with other money sinks and pitched gambling out the door as a whole.

They did warn you, they've said ever since the first "Say neigh to gambling" update that they don't like gambling clans. Again, I'd support a perma ban for all gambling hosts, but that's just me.

Don't judge me for playing the game how I want to play it within the rules set by Jagex because I don't judge you for how you play the game. I'll judge you however I want, because it's unethical, Jagex clearly doesn't want you doing it and had to hand out punishments to make you stop because despite their constant reminder that they don't like gambling clans and were working on ways to remove them, you still kept pushing your luck, and you don't have any "right" to do jack [bleep] as a paying member because ultimately Jagex owns the game and they have the power to alter the conditions and remove you if you are a detriment. Incredibly, how you play a video game isn't some majestic facet that is invulnerable to criticism.

And you can judge how I play all you want. Good luck spinning "Omali logs in for an hour or so every day and might do some fishing or slayer" into something of controversy.

@Omali- again. Gambling is LEGAL and within the rules set forth by Jagex. If they don't like it then they should make a post stating it is against the rules or that it is a mutable offense. They should not just start muting or banning. Regardless of your view on gamblers, I have always acted within the rules and therefore this mute was unfair and without cause.

If it's SO unethical and wrong, which I agree IT IS, then they should enforce this properly. I'm not disagreeing with you, nor is Vann really. This is Jagex' mistake lol.

To further back up my argument, Jagex removed the ability to gamble with horses, they should remove the ability to gamble with dice and flowers, neither of which is essential to the game.

Does it not make it clear that they are against it when they purposefully removed most of the gambling methods AND in this month bTS expressly said they would be implementing changes to rules and content to stamp out flower games?

Certainly it is currently within the rules, but it is rather a naive argument when Jagex have made it clear they are against it and have been working towards removing it. Continuing to do it, however legitimately, is done so in light of it being a practice Jagex are trying to remove and likely to become rule-breaking at any moment.

For the record Vann, although I personally disagree with what you do, I agree that the muting is unfair. You are doing nothing against the rules of the game. If what you do is suddenly against the rules of the game, you should be informed of that by a Jagex announcement instead of discovering it when you get a mute.

The automatic mute silences players for two days, correct? That's what I've seen from the posts on Reddit. Consider that a warning shot that Jagex is taking this seriously now.

Jagex's only mistake was allowing the perpetuation of this disease. They need to can flowers, either by fully removing them from the game or removing the random chance and publicly state that anyone found partaking in any other form of gambling, aside from duel arena, will receive a ban.

Gambling is a problem that is deeply set in society, its designed to draw the weak minded in and milk them for all they are worth, its the worst form of abuse of man kind because it feeds the need for instant gratification, anyone that says its about a thrill is full of shit, its about feeling good at what you take. If jagex were to implement true poker it would be a different story, still a game of luck but there is some aspect of skill required, relying on a fully random system that always favours the house is a crock of shit.

I agree ^

And yes, the mute is a 48hr mute.

HOWEVER, this is NOT really Jagex taking it seriously, just Jagex passing on some of the responsibly to player mods (and no longer revoking mutes/black marks for gambling mutes which previously happened).

Well it will be changed soon enough anyways, so people can be happy that they can continue to be coddled and have their hands held to the point of needing to take absolutely no responsibility. If you prefer that, that's fine really, everyone has a right to like what they want, I just think that taking all responsibility out of the people performing the actions is the wrong approach. When you gamble in real life casinos and develop a gambling addiction, you don't see the casinos getting in trouble with the law and being outlawed, just because people can't take their own responsibility. Though I guess we do live in a society that never wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore, so it may be more appropriate than I think.

Also, if the community somehow should dictate what others are allowed to make in x amount of time, I believe you should only be able to kill Nex 100 times a week, because otherwise you're making much more money than skillers who actually work hard fishing / woodcutting for their gains, while boss hunters make the same amount of money in 1/10 the time. Sure it may sound ridiculous to you, but it's the exact same thing you are dictating regarding gambling vs boss hunting.

PS: Telling people to just go play online poker instead is just telling people to continue gambling, which seems to be the big problem. So you don't want people to gamble, so you tell them to gamble elsewhere? That just means you don't want them gambling on RS, is it because they make more money than you?

That's the difference, this is a game - not real life. IRL people CAN be responsible for themselves. But as VORK mentioned earlier, children play this game - who cannot be held responsible (legally). Gambling isn't WRONG AT ALL. it's a choice. And moderated properly, it's perfectly accepted in most cultures.

Anyway I'm going out, this is between y'all. I'm neither here nor there, as I don't gamble. Just remember this is only a game. ;)

While to an extent this is true, you can then say children can't be held responsible for hacking / scamming / ddosing in RS, therefore none should be banned as children can't be held responsible for their behavior. You start on that slippery slope, you will only do more harm than good. Children IRL are still held responsible when they break laws, just not as severe as adults do.

You have to be 18 to gamble in a casino. Also, gambling companies are about the most regulated industry in existence, with every single aspect heavily regulated to deter crime and protect the gambler against shady casinos. In the United States, running an unlicensed gambling ring is a federal offense.

And they still don't hold casinos responsible for gamblers decisions. Also, saying in the USA running unlicensed gambling ring is a federal offense is fine, but tell me where running one in RS is against the RS laws? The point is, until this is made an in game rule (which it currently is not), then it is moot.

I'm not saying you're wrong in regards to the laws IRL, but comparing the game to IRL laws can't really be used.

It's against the law to kill people, but this is done in the game on a regular basis (along with all the various forms of violent actions).

It's against the law to fish without a permit / cut trees down without permits.

It's against the law to gamble without a license, yet people can in RS have been doing it since the introduction of RS with staking, and more recent, flower poker.

It's against the law to sell weapons to others, especially minors, yet you can sell these to other people in RS.
