    I'd be more impressed if Jamflex could catch them and ban them before they botted their 200m xp in a skill.

I know you're joking, but when the JMod who created Botwatch has been through the guy's account and quashed all offences, people probably shouldn't keep suggesting that there is a possibility he isn't innocent.

It's more an observation as a whole. Considering all of the other cheating at high level play and the maturity level of the community, "guilty until proven innocent" is an understandable response. Posts like the above don't really help (Though the fact that G0d actually is innocent does).

Bear in mind that we're playing a game where people openly and shamelessly break the rules, and then complain that the powers-that-be have the audacity to enforce them every so often.

But this guy has been proven innocent, and has been for quite some time. So I'll reiterate - people probably shouldn't keep suggesting that there is a possibility he isn't innocent.

Also, there has been only a single wave of maxed botters banned, numbering less than a hundred. As opposed to the thousands of lower levelled players/pker types that have been banned in the same time period.

There is no question that botting amongst the HLC is orders of magnitude less popular than amongst the general RS population. As for other types of offence I can't really say - these are the players that probably have too much RSGP and have the opportunity to sell their gold, so maybe high level players do commit more of certain types of offence than others. (Although, someone has to buy the gold ;P)

But as far as botting goes, there's really no comparison. A single maxed player being banned for botting causes a stir. It is a rare event. To suggest that botting is more prevalent amongst high levels than the general RS populace is straight up wrong.

That's what I read into your post, if that wasn't what you meant my apologies.

I'll admit to being jaded here. Being one of the only members of a clan (At least two maxed, almost all max combat) that didn't cheat has made quite an impact on me. I know I shouldn't stereotype, but I've recently cut ties with another community for the same reason. Even in the first group, it always seemed like it was a matter of knowing how to not get caught.

What I'm kind of curious now is, if botwatch has never incorrectly added a user's play-style to its profile list then this would be repeated human error. Except now Jacmob's investigating it, which sort of leans to botwatch automatically doing it.

If that's the case - and it sure does look like it - then I'm actually really surprised no one's jumping down his and any other jmod who defended botwatch for being incorrect like what usually happens.

hzvjpwS.gif

As far as I understand it, g0d's case is a human error. Several high xp players were falsely banned either because a JMod misinterpreted some information, or botwatch gave the wrong information. These were then all unbanned, but then:

[22:48:36] <11%Jacmob> its just 1 ban you just need to be removed from goldfarmer list

[22:53:28] <11%Jacmob> removed from list

G0d's account wasn't removed from this 'goldfarmer list' which lead to him being rebanned after every unban. Now that he has been removed from this list (the fact that he wasn't was human error) the problem is resolved permanently, at least for him.

What I'm kind of curious now is, if botwatch has never incorrectly added a user's play-style to its profile list then this would be repeated human error.

I think one possible option is this: during the first wave of maxed player bans - which were legitimate bans- those players didn't bot 24/7, but actually trained their accounts part of the time and botted part of the time. One possibility is that botwatch then added the legitimate player profiles to it's 'bot' list as well as when they were actually botting. This would be high level content such as summoning using the Taverly obelisk with mousekeys or fletching broad arrows whilst thieving from dwarf traders, so this behaviour would not occur too regularly.

If they only recently activated those first maxed botters profiles in botwatch, that could explain the bans.

fall dont forget this1

18:40:23) <Jacmob> it's not botwatch that is causing the bans, it's due to dodgy game input

im pretty syre dragonseance who got banned he was using mk for cons , celc was doing sum taverly method he used mk too he told me that, and myself before those insta bans i was using them, he told gonna try fix this issue:c

o yea and this

(18:43:50) <Jacmob> well the guys responsible for these bans will get to use the new botwatch soon, so it shouldn't be an issue then, but i'll still work out why this is happening by looking at what your account has been doing recently

i assume they gonna change again the bot watch system?:/

Hi! I just wanna make sure I understand what you are saying. Botwatch added all the activities of players from the first ban to its "bot" list, which includes actual botting and legitimate means of playing, due to the first banned high level players doing a mix of both. So this time around, despite no one actually botting, Botwatch recognizes these players as botting because what they were doing was on a "bot" list. Is that correct?

They only took 200m xp off him? Got off lightly if you ask me.

thats true

First tracked since october 27 2007

200m dg -> 180m dg

200m range -> 180m range

200m cook -> 180m cook

150m farming -> 135m farming (lol)

111m constitution -> 100m constitution

meh, shouldn't take that long to get all those ranks and xp back

Why not ban him? They seem pretty sure he botted?

10% reduction in EXP then, don't think I've seen that done before.

You make it sound like running through a few level 87 monsters is hard which it really shouldn't be at your level.

He did bot.

I'm guessing they let him off with a second chance due to his longevity of being a subscribed member (yes they do take that in fact before permanent banning)

Yeah, all I've seen is either 50% rollback or perm bans.

The severity of punishment for botting depends on how much botting was done. For example, botting a skill from 99 -> 200M Xp would most likely be a perm ban, whereas botting from 190M to 200M would most likely be a temp ban with [insert xp reduction here], and a final warning.

At least, that is what appears to be happening.

Also, I've also only ever seen temps with a 50% XP rollback or perm bans, until this ban wave at least.

Shame that the XP reduction was so small. He can regain that XP within 2 weeks (well, except for Farming perhaps). Bit of an underwhelming punishment considering he was botting.

You're in the Black Hole!

obviously clicking on a fishing spot and then not clicking again until your invent is full or the fishing spot moves has been identified as something that botters do :roll:

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.

It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).
