A Complete Guide To Canoeing

Canoeing is the newest form of travel around RuneScape, using the River Lum to go around RuneScape! You can travel from humble Lumbridge to the fearsome Wilderness through a simple canoe trip.

My pics are unfortunately not all of the same orientation and therefore slightly confusing. Here is how to get to each:

Canoe trips always begin at Canoe Stations, one located in:

Lumbridge - Cross the River from the furnace room and go south.

lumbridgestart8ye.png

The Champion's Guild - Exit the Champions guild, and follow the east wall down south until you see the station.

championsstart8iw.png

Barbarian Village - Go across the bridge heading towards Varrock, then head slightly south.

barbarianstart4cd.png

and Edgeville - Go north of edgeville to the bridge, cross it, and go south

edgevillestart5vr.png

There is also an ending point in the Wilderness - Run due north of Edgeville, through the Green Dragons

wildernessend2fk.png

But beware! There is no Canoe Tree there for returning, and you will end up in Level 35 Wilderness! For today, at least, this has been a popular PKing spot, preying on those who are a little to curious.

At each Canoe Station, with the exception of the Wilderness, there is a NPC ready and waiting to explain how to make a canoe and their uses!

canoeguidesfull27tl.png

From left to right they are:

Ex Sea Captain Barfy Bill of Lumbridge - Favors the Dugout Canoe

Tarquin Majoribanks - Favors the Stable Dugout Canoe

Sigurd the Great and Brainy - Favors the Log Canoe

Hari - Favors the Waka Canoe

Each, if asked, will identify the best canoe you are capable of making and explain its uses if they know them (Hari is the only one who really understands the Waka)

At each station there is a Canoe Tree. Simply cut it with an axe and it will fall onto the 'platform' to the side. The tree will only "respawn" after:

A. The canoe has been used to go to another Canoe Station

B. A second canoe has been produced at another Canoe Station

cutcanoetree6ba.png

After this, click on the option "Shape-Canoe", at which time you will be presented with a menu of canoe choices:

canoechoices0pq.png

The Canoe will then need to be pushed into the river:

readytofloat5rq.png

And then you simply click "Paddle Canoe":

timetogo5bk.png

And you will be presented with a menu of locations you can go to:

whereyoucango3ik.png

Click on a location, if it is not the wilderness you will be paddling along a river next to a field:

Or if you choose the wilderness, you will be shown paddling through an underground tunnel:

Many thanks to DiLord for providing an animated copy!

Now for the Canoe Types:

Log Canoe

log1le.png

These stylish canoes, designed by Sigurd the Great and Brainy have an intense history involving a game of Smack the Tree. They are the simplest of the Canoes, requiring only 12 Woodcutting. They offer a smooth ride to the nearest Canoe Station on either end, with the exception of the Wilderness. Therefore, you will be able to travel from Champions Guild to Barbarian Village with luxurious ease, but not all the way up to Edgeville, that would take a second canoe trip.

Stats:

Level(s) Required: 12 Woodcutting

Experience Gained: 30 Woodcutting Experience

Distance Traveled: 1 Station Excluding Wilderness

Dugout Canoe

dugout3ps.png

This simple canoe has a less interesting history, but is used by Barfy Bill, as it is balanced enough to prevent sea sickness and he can't get river sick. These canoes, requiring 27 Woodcutting, offer a pleasant ride to the nearest Canoe Station, and the one following it. Therefore, you will be able to travel from Edgeville to Champions Guild easily with one of these, but not as far as Lumbridge, which would require a second canoe trip.

Stats:

Level(s) Required: 27 Woodcutting

Experience Gained: 60 Woodcutting Experience

Distance Traveled: 2 Stations Excluding Wilderness

Stable Dugout Canoe

stabledugout8eq.png

This canoe, slightly more stable and better fit for the river, is used favorably by Tarquin Majoribanks. They require 42 Woodcutting and allow for travel amongst all Canoe Stations excluding the Wilderness.

Stats:

Level(s) Required: 42 Woodcutting

Experience Gained: 90 Woodcutting Experience

Distance Traveled: 3 Stations Excluding Wilderness

Waka Canoe

waka4nc.png

This canoe, favored and used only by the most fearsome Hari, is the only access to the Level 35 Wilderness "Station". It is the only canoe capable of traveling through the underground passage. At 57 Woodcutting, it allows you to travel amongst all Canoe Stations.

Stats:

Level(s) Required: 57 Woodcutting

Experience Gained: 150 Woodcutting Experience

Distance Traveled: 4 Stations Including Wilderness

A few important notes to remember:

1. Upon arrival your canoe WILL sink. For every canoe trip you will have to make a new canoe!

Edit: This is the best screenshot I could get. I'm still looking for a better one if anyone is willing to provide one!

canoesinking8ls.png

2. If you construct a canoe at one canoe station, leave it, and construct a second elsewhere, the first canoe WILL be destroyed.

3. There is NO CANOE TREE at the Wilderness spot! There is NO returning from there except through running or other forms of exit NOT involving canoes.

4. Canoes can be made with ANY axe, from bronze to dragon.

5. And, as I forgot to add: This is P2P ONLY. Thanks Mummi for answering that.

6. Cutting down the canoe tree offers no experience, only shaping it into a canoe gives you experience.

Enjoy canoeing and have fun!

P.S. I am still trying to get a picture of a Canoe sinking, my computer isn't fast enough to screenshot my own canoe sinking, so if anyone would like to provide that picture, I'd be happy to use it and give you credit! :)

P.P.S I also have pictures of the actual stations, not just their map locations. I will post them if people want, just thought I had already put in enough pics :)

List of Edits:

1. Added "P.P.S"

2. Added Pic of Canoe Sinking

3. Added List of Edits, directions to the canoe spots, and important note 4

4. Added important note 5

5. Added important note 6 and put in requirements for tree to "respawn"

6. Added Animated Rowing pic.

Nice Guide :D

I don't know if canoeing will catch on though.. probably one of those updates people will use once for kicks..only practical use to me would be canoeing to the wildy

I'd have to agree that it won't be used too much, although it's not bad for experience if you don't want to just be cutting trees (although quite a bit less profitable and a rather weird way to gain experience...). However I was sick today and home from school so I decided to make a guide :)

I must admit, I definitely enjoyed 'canoeing' about, along with writing this guide.

Question:

What is the respawn time for the canoe tree?

It seems to me that a player could raise his woodcutting skill

by just making canoes and then pushing them into the river

over and over again.

I will add this to my guide, but to directly answer the question: The tree will only "respawn" after:

A. The canoe has been used to go to another Canoe Station

B. A second canoe has been produced at another Canoe Station

In addition, there is no experience for cutting the tree, only for shaping the Canoe.

The wildy canoe spot is close to some moss giants. For someone wanting to train afk, take an axe and 2 armor pieces and camp at the mossies till you are killed. Set your respawn to lumbridge for an easy trip back.

You do know it's illegal to AFK train, right? I just wanted to let you know that before you get banned for telling other people to do illegal things.

AFK training means you do close to no movement on RS, instead, you brose another site while you fight and occasionally click to attack a guy, it is not illegal, i see sooooo many people do it, no one has been warmed about it.
