Nadril
Ok, let me just try and explain what I mean first off. Have there been any moments in a song that were just so amazing that they just kind of popped out of the song. You know, those parts of a song you love, that you wish could be longer but they obviously can't be. It can be something such as a solo, or even a verse or something as simple as one of the notes they played. Either way though, to you it just brings the entire song together. I'll start off with a few of mine: Black Sabbeth- Heaven and Hell To me, the song for the most part is a fairly good song. Has a good melody to it, lyrics are preaty good, but seem basic for a bit. However, it than turns to a few solos, and the music starts to pick up. At what seems like the climax, these lyrics are sung: They say that lifeÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a carousel Spinning fast, youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve got to ride it well The world is full of kings and queens Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams ItÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s heaven and hell, oh well And theyÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll tell you black is really white The moon is just the sun at night And when you walk in golden halls You get to keep the gold that falls I don't know what it is, but it's just the way he sings it. Usualy when i'm listening I sometimes find my self rewinding a bit to listen to that part again. :) Another moment is in Dream theater- Octavarium. The entire song is amazing, infact, I could probaly bring out a lot of amazing parts, but I have 2 that just stand out. One is fairly hard to explain, but it's a good bit after the slow section in the begining. (the quiet part). As far as I could tell Theres nothing more I need But still I ask myself Could this be everything Then all I swore That I would never be was now So suddenly The only thing I wanted To become To be someone just like him anyways, right before these lyrics it was a very quiet and calm mood, but when it gets to those lyrics it picks up. I don't know what it is, but the begining of those, the guitar all of the sudden picks up into such a bright mood and tone, it's amazing. It's hard to describe though, you'd have to listen. Also, in the song near the end, when the song changes to a bit more angry/evil tone. These lyrics, and just they way they were done are amazing: [Root] Our deadly sins feel his mortal wrath Remove all obstacles from our path [second] Asking questions Search for clues The answer's been right in front of you [Third] We try to break through Long to connect Fall on deaf ears with failed muted breath [Fourth] Loyalty, trust, faith and desire Carries love through each darkest fire [Fifth] Tortured insanity A smothering hell Try to escape but to no avail [sixth] The calls of admirers Who claim they adore Drain all your lifeblood while begging for more [seventh] Innocent victims for merciless crimes Fall prey to some madman's for impulsive designs [Octave] Step after step We try controlling our fate When we finally start living it's become to late The bolded part just jumps out at you. anyways, I've never realy seen a topic like this, so hopefully it's fine. Anyways, anyone know what i'm talking about and have some examples of their own?
Sir_Alex85
I agree with the Heaven And Hell part. A good building up song, but when it gets to the peak it's only for a bit. Dio delivers a great performance on it. Hmm. I think the intro to "Lazy" by Deep Purple could be a bit longer.. I love the intro to that song so much... Also, the faster parts of the song "Dance of Death" by Iron Maiden. I'll post again when I put some more thought into it. It really has
Necromagus
Haggard - Eppur Si Muove About three minutes into the song:Did you ever touch the starlight Dream for a thousand years? Have you ever seen the beauty Of a newborn centuryThe buildup to this part is one of the best instrumental parts of the album, and the soprano that sings the first four lines before the grunts take over just blow you out of the water. Oy_the_Great
Teardrop from Massive attack could last an hour longer IMO, that song is just so calming and the evolution of the song is just perfect. In this World from Moby also is a song that could last a lot longer if it were possible. Bill Hicks[/url]":dhj2kan9]Since the one thing we can say about fundamental matter is, that it is vibrating. And since all vibrations are theoretically sound, then it is not unreasonable to suggest that the universe is music and should be perceived as such. apinagez
Pink Floyd - Time Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun No explanaton :P Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now thereÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond. You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the Steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, You martyr, and shine! This one is problably because you have to listen to 10 minutes of solos to get to Waters singing. The guitar starting solos of some Led Zeppeling songs (Black Dog, Good Times Bad Times, Heartbraker, Houses of the Holy...) are as well amazing. Rolling Stones' Brown Sugar has great instrumentals too. And of course I gotta agree with Alex on Deep Purple's Lazy, that song should last 2 hours :) Interesting thread Nadril. ^The most disturbing signature on Tip.it^Last.fm|HELLY KAYLA!|Oh the mehagurtz!|#Siencemakers"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart"apinagez... let me
Nadril
Interesting thread Nadril. Thanks  . Was hopping it would be a decent thread. But yeah Alex, the whole song in Heaven and hell isn't the most 'amazing' thing there is, but that part realy stands out.

Just listen to the Made in Japan version. The intro to that is endless. This one is problably because you have to listen to 10 minutes of solos to get to Waters singing. A) For a seven minute song, it's one of the only long-ish songs I wish would go on for twice as long (and when comparing that to other Floyd songs, it's possitively short/average). B) There's some amazing solos (not all of the time is completely amazing, such as the times where it's just starting...the wierd single synth type thing). But overall, I think some of the solos are much better than the words, and I donno why, but the singing seems oddly...not amazing. Good words, they just don't sound as good as other words in other songs...hmmmm, yes that makes sence.

insane
The solos from Wait Until Tomorrow by Jimi Hendrix and I Got a Woman by John Mayer Trio. The second song's solo isn't that good, but it fits the song sooo perfectly.
Rizla
Little Wing and Castles Made Of Sand by Hendrix. Both under 3 minutes, but it's farily easy to find versions that are longer. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
Azvareth
Off the top of my head, The 'Spirit Of The Wild' solo by Ted Nugent. Without a doubt one of my favourite solos, but it's a tad short.
assassin_696
The guitar intro from Money for Nothing by Dire Staits. And there's a drum riff near the end of Spirit by the Ceasars which would be cool if it went on. Pete_the_Viscous
I'm torn between wanting the sort of high, inverted bit in Classical Gas to be longer... and thinking that that might be too much of a good thing, and maybe that I wouldn't like it so much if it were. deviantart account

Scruffy5389
"Pete Jackson is Getting Married" by Less Than Jake. I don't like the song much. The singer overdrives his voice a little too much and the lyrics aren't anything special, but there's one moment where they stop the heavy distortion and two guys just sing "na na na na" in a really cool moment of pretty complicated melodic harmony. Sometimes I listen to the song just for that moment
ford_rule
dream theaters cover of hey you (pink floyd) is awesome, and i just wish he kept on soloing with the guitar, dream theater out floyded pink floyd by miles. also by dream theater this dying soul, the part 6 and a half minutes in where they drop the tempo and just go all out heavy, its so freakin awesome, especially on the budokan dvd. theres a song by evermore called my own way, i just wish it went forever its a fantastic song, and also dont forget me by the rhcp, omg i wish it wouldnt stop, fantastic.
