Nadril
Both, I think, will fail somewhat. Some reasoning: Xbox 360, nothing but PC ports. I'll be waiting, however, to see if it gets any good origional games. PS3, well, its going to cost freaking 800$! (thats what they are estimating). Now common, don't you think thats a bit much for a console? The thing is, the reason it's that much is because of blue ray, which will probaly die out like no other. Now, I'm not a huge console fan, but I play them. I have an Xbox and a Gamecube (never got a playstation), and I also have the good 'ole dreamcast / n64 / and older systems. Anyways, point is these both are going after the "bigger is better" scheme of things. Now, I realize that this isn't in this debate, but the revolution. I am starting to honestly think now that the revolution may end up besting the two. It's a slim chance, sony and microsoft have a ton of marketing to back them up, and a lot of fanbois following 'em around too. I'm not the worlds largest nintendo fan (I was disapointed with the gamecube), but the revolutions launch title is a shooter! anyways, for the most part my opinion is this, console wars SUCK. Thing is is that I wish it didn't have to be some kind of "war" between them. However, with the prices of the consoles sadly it will become that. I mean, if you pay 800$ on a ps3 your not getting another one right with that...
fgfuyfyuiuy0
I'm sorry. I kow the PS3 hasn't even come out yet, but comparing PS2 to XBox, of last ones, made it seem like PS2 was really bad quality compared to the XBox. So what I'm figuring is the PS3 graphics will be the XBox graphics and the XBox 360 will be ahead. Just an assumption. I'll have to wait and see. XD I <3 Gears of War 2. Sk8erfreak
not to mention that was from may 16, 05' and even if it were true... 256mb ram in the ps3 = ouch... have fun with that.. rumor has it that since then they have bumped it up to 512mb ram, and scrapped the 7 core cell, down to a 2 core cell processor. and it say on there.. Release: Spring 06' .. not gunna happen ign = teh' suckage... 256MB of RAM would be plenty. More RAM just means more loaded at a certain time, while every game on current gen systems use streaming data that loads while you play (and it works very well). There is really no NEED for more RAM, it would just make programming the games much easier, because instead of streaming all the data, they can load certain textures onto the RAM. Also, the PS3 was going to have 256MB system RAM, and 256MB Graphics memory (total 512MB), while the Xbox 360 just has 512MB shared between the two. The ps3 actually has the edge with the RAM in this case because of the higher bandwidth on the Video RAM (which is the most important for graphic intensive games). As for the Cell processor.. Unless they Intentionally disable the extra cores (which they will not) it wouldn't even be a cell processor. ALL cell processors have 8 SPEs and 1 PPE core (total of 9) but the PS3 will only use 7 of the SPEs (one is reserved for redundency) and the PPE core (for a total of 8.). Also, they plan on using a few of the cores for dedicated physics (PhysX) processing, meaning better physics for the ps3. Also, Sony and Microsoft take HUGE hits on their hardware sales, which they make up in software sales. So don't be too sure about the price of the ps3 quite yet. It will definately cost $500+ though. 136 Combat, 2290+ Skill Total

Release dates or anything like that mean nothing. The PS3 (From what I remember) was announced before the 360 (correct me if im wrong) and then Microsoft suddenly though "OGM THY GNNA MKE BTTER GMES!!!11" and thus, the 360 was born. Anesthesia
Indeed there will, with Windows Vista which is expected in 2007. That will have been THREE YEARS it was exclusively on the Xbox. Flagship titles on the PS2 (citing the example of the GTA series) have seen PC releases a year or less after their debut on the console. So basically his argument that all Xbox games are available on the PC is wrong. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be. This means absolutely nothing. So any game available for the 360 and PS3 will be [cabbage] too because they're for both consoles? Do us all a favor and don't come back. I find it interesting how a lot of you mention that you aren't impressed by the 360 and then go back to your PC's. There is a major issue if you're trying to compare the 360 and PC. PC's in theory are always current gen and any next-gen console game can already be played on the PC. So of course any console game isn't going to blow you away when you're used to playing the best PC games out there. And for the person who mentioned their dislike for the 360 controller I find that very hard to believe. I've used just about every controller imaginable on consoles and the 360 is by far the most comfortable. Everything is in a great spot, the controller is very smooth and fits great into your hand. But when you're hands are hunched over a mouse and keyboard all day it's obvious where the problem lies.

Right now I personaly don't see it as something i'm going to buy. however, if they can pull off some good games on it, they will have my vote. Thing is, even excluding the PC titles on the xbox (counting them in for its library), it still had a fairly 'poor' library, compared to the other consoles. Perhaps better than nintendo's gamecube, but then again I felt the 'cube as somewhat a failure. Anyways, I still have my hopes strong for the 360. I saw it at EB, and if you have a good TV it will look nice, perfect for someone who doesn't have a good enough PC, nor wants to bother with all of the instalation of it. (thus, the PC's weak point, having to do more manual stuff. However, it pays off because generaly I find I have a better experience on it than on a console). Like many people said on this thread though, it is way too early to even begin to tell. I don't know how sony is going to do with the PS3, mostly because of the cost issue I said earlier. Thing is, to me, is that if blue ray fails [which it may and is likley to], than the PS3 is going to be fairly screwed. On another note, I heard that the ps3 is going to be a bit harder to program on (sega saturn anyone? System went down like no other, it was hard to program on.) Anesthesia
Other than GTA, almost no games get ported from PS2 to PC. More games from Xbox get ported to PC than PS2 to PC. Are you kidding? The PC is filled with games made for PS2. What about: All the recent NFS games Almost all recent Star Wars games Splinter Cell series All Tony Hawk's games Any film game They are all major games, the sort that some would consider a reason to buy a PS2 should they have only been available for it. In fact in 2005 there were so few decent PC games, most were PS2 ports (here I call a PS2 port something that was designed down to the PS2 specs then a version compiled for PC). You may say that these weren't 'ports' because they weren't on PS2 first then brought to PC, they are still one game that was made for both. The point of this post is that they weren't unique to the PS2. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
l3il2die
I vote PS3. So what if 360 came out before it means nothing, sure they will get more sales sooner but I bet PS3 will be even more popular. People see Microsoft as notorious for bugs and the like. Ive played an XBOX360 and to be honest, I was disappointed. I expected more, compared to a PS2 I didnt see much difference in gameplay or AI. The noticeable difference was the lighting and shadows, especially water. The configuration of human detail was nice but really not ground-breaking. Now from what i've seen of the PS3 (Mags and Videos) EVERYTHING looks improved. Explosions look realistic, shadows are really detailed, AI seems much more advanced and general gameplay feedback (Like will be in MGS4) is staggering. Maybe its just me but I much prefer the look of the PS3, may not be convenient but it looks more modern - sleeker if you will. And, thank god, they are redesigning their "boomerang" controller. However, I do like the 360 controllers. They fit well in your hand but I am so used to having a D-Pad at the top-left and 2 Analogue sticks in the middle, it does not fit aswell as a PS2 controller. Gran Turismo > Forza ;) look mr ps3 fan boy, yes i am a xbox360 fanboy, for 2-3years i have xboxlive and sony network, what ever its called, and personally i think xbox has better online options rather than the ps2, which totally STINK, also with the ps2 headsets you cant seem to mute them, which and is crap, I3il2die: aka: BiRDiEAn Are Sole: Pure Def/Skiller... ____
The reason everybody is dissapointed by the 360 is because you all set your expectations amazingly high. I nerdgasmed when I played GRAW and DOA4. Microsoft is taking a step in the right direction with the 360 by trying to get more japanese support but I have a feeling that the PS3 will win solely from hype and mainstream appeal.I set my expectations amazingly low for the xbox360 because I knew all the hype and whatnot surrounding it was BS, and it still only just scraped acrossed the line. If there is no attempt to improve gameplay, no love from me. If I want their bland gameplay I'll play the old system. Graphics, meah. Granted they help out occasionally but it comes close to the bottom of the list of what i like about games. And for the person who mentioned their dislike for the 360 controller I find that very hard to believe. I've used just about every controller imaginable on consoles and the 360 is by far the most comfortable. Everything is in a great spot, the controller is very smooth and fits great into your hand. To each their own I guess :-?
