popular culture references/Easter eggs in RS?

Featured Replies

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a lot of popular culture references in RuneScape? For example:

1. certain NPCs will say "All your base are belong to us."

2. I think that the Kalphite Queen was inspired by Metroid Prime. They both have two different forms with two different sets of attacks.

3. I have a feeling that whips were inspired by the Castlevania series. However, nothing further proves conclusive.

4. It is reported that the Chaos Elemental greatly resembles a monster from the LOST series.

5. The pentagram-shaped teleporter pads - possible homage to the Doom series? Or maybe just a coincidence?

it's called getting "inspiration" from other sources. How do you think Runescape existed from the beginning? Andrew obviously pliayed some kind of RPG and decided to make one himself, so many monsters and things can be taken from other games and such.

Yes, I do agree that the whip was most likely taken from Castlevania, I haven't played any other RPG where the whip is an existing or such a strong weapon.

Just about all games have something from another game

crazy good info, and also wow wikipedia surprises me alot...i rarely use it but dang...i feel bad for people who do not know of it, its a godly website.

I'm doing Hand in the Sand quest and I just gave the dead wizard head to Zavistic. He said "Poor Clarence, I knew him well."

I believe that is a reference to Shakespear's "Hamlet."

Ahh, the flash mob phenomenon. Many have hypothesized that they are beings of great power sent to smite those who question the gods. ~Auguste

The Hamlet quote is "Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him, Horatio", but it's commonly misquoted as "...I knew him well", so you might be right.

There are tons and tons of these types of references - this only scratches the surface of the inside joke type things jagex litters here and there throughout runescape.

Interessting. I didn't know anything of all that. I think there are more connections to other things to in Runescape, that we haven't finded out yet. Anyone know any more connections?

There are soo many in the game, but off the top of my head I can only think of that Rock lobster reference. But really, there's tons.

There are actually a lot of games that have whips as weapons. Take FF8 for example, Quistis uses a whip....but then that's chain whip.

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.
