slushee
lmao @ mainstream music ...What's so funny about mainstream music? I don't see the joke, could you explain it please?Apparently, the more unknown a band is, the cooler it is to listen to them. no it's about indie music and bands that don't sell out
How2PK
Oh, I see man. That's really cool, you know. What do these indie bands sound like? And why is music from people that 'sold out' something to laugh at, I still can't really follow that joke. Maybe it's because I don't know what selling out is about, could you explain it to me? I'm somewhat new to this new thing. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

ForsakenMage
*Steers the topic back on topic!* :wall: From what I can tell I don't think I'm a conformist in real life. For one thing, the music I listen to is a lot different from what others around me here (Chinese Pop Music [them] vs Sonata Arctica/Nightwish/Ayreon/Evanescence/Yellowcard/Green Day/My Chemical Romance/Anime Music/etc. [me; and please, don't comment on my taste in music...]). Sometimes my friends will listen to music I listen to, but then try to get me to listen to more of the Chinese and Japanese Pop music. Some of it (Chinese Pop I mean) is okay, but it isn't something I'd listen to all the time. The clothes I wear aren't Old Navy/Gap/Bebe stuff but more Ann Taylor/J. Jill sort of thing. Most of my friends are more or less don't comment on the clothes. Of course, then I wear shorts and a t-shirt and they go, "Whoa what happened to you?" like I had some major bad haircut. :wall: Adventurer's Log || YouTube || Facebook || Tip.it Times Work || Wanna Join the Editorial Panel?Maxed Out 01 October 2012 PDT

Quer_Skulll
lmao @ mainstream music Jimmy Hendrix is dead.. so I don't think it matters... Music isn't really a big deal to me, I listen to similar stuff as slushee, I just don't make a big deal out of it. Wearing band shirts everyday and such. I go to shows but, uh I dont know where i'm going with this. Bai it̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs JIMI Hendrix... yeah im a fan.. about music.. i listen to everything as long as it̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs well composed is good as in technicly a good piece of work meaning no guitar nub can play it (just to give an example) new or old, contract, populair it doesnt matter to me. i like David Elias (non/contracted), Mano Negra, Yngwie Malmsteem, Mozart, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, The Strokes, Manu Chao, Wolfmother (well its kinda balls to the walls but i like it),Jack Johnson, John Frusciante, Jose Gonzales, Regina Spektor, Donovan, Donovan Frankenreiter, G Love and the special sauce. i could go on about bands, music, music styles for days because i absolutely love music, listening and making it is my great passion.. (i̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôm learning about and learning to play almoste all music styles and my future dream is to travel the world to pick up even more of local music) you can say im very passionate about it.. i am and that is who i am. slushee
So, if you listen to music by bands that are unknown then you "experience life by the fullest"? Don't tell me you wrote that with dry eyes. Don't tell me who the ignorant and close minded people are. If there's somebody ignorant, then you're the one. lol when did I MYSELF say you have to listen to bands that are unknown? most of the bands i listen to are popular among people who actually have taste in a certain type of music and look for bands whos music they can relate to and stick to that sort of genre, when a band goes from indie to mainstream it upsets the TRUE fans that have been there from the begging when FAKES come along and just act like they've know about them forever then there is no point for the original true fan to listen to that bands music because that band will then be just presured to write and make music that is aimed towards all those fakes and sell out to them and try to make something everyone wants hear which leads to them not being what they originally were. LOOK AT THIS EXAMPLE you listen to fall out boy [cabbage] and people listen to whatever love songs or type of songs their TRYING to write, trying to make it a fake style of what it used to be when you can listen to something like a band called Bright eyes who are even better to relate to for that sort of thing and are more describing while using music and melodies that really fit with the lyrics and really make their music from the heart and do it for the love of it, not like fall out boy will make something to just get more money now that they've sold out. now most of the original fall out boy fans just stop listining to them and stopped supporting them. and by experiance life to the fullest i didn't mean musically, i mean you need to open your fking eyes and take a look at what else is out their in the world, you ignorant scum. You call them closed minded people when you're the one acting all arrogant? Besides, aren't you the gay guy? How are those girl pants holding? You're a sheep and you don't even know it. You let other people affect your choices in life. Just because other people like what you like, it automatically becomes garbage. You follow the same people that pretend to be hardcore fans and move away bragging about some band no one knows. Bands go mainstream for a reason, it's because they tend to make good music. Chances are, the bands you listen to will never make it to the 'mainstream' because they suck. Mainstream is stardom. And stardom is what most bands strive for. Life must suck for you. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::

(no offense, you might like it but technicly its not good or refreshing) I understand the point your trying to make but your saying it wrong or atleast not in a way it can be understood easily. mainstream isn̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôt always sell~out, i agree MOSTE sell~out stuff is bad but that can̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôt be classed under one genre or as mainstream. there are sell~outs amongst people who do not even have a contract. I think people can listen to whatever they want tho i always think there is a distinct difference between a band being good and a band being fun to listen or nice to listen. example̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâô Wolfmother is a very refreshingly cool, awesome to listen to with nice songs tho technicly speaking there not good tho i like listening to them. issy2
You know, I actually find it quite interesting how a 'good-natured', 'mature' discussion on Tribute Bands and non-conformity descends into pointless flaming, swearing, avoiding the censor and very childish comments...Yes, I'm looking at you, slushee. Tigra00
There is no such thing as "non-conforming". Everything associated with non-conformance becomes mainstream within weeks simply because people strive to be "special". Drealfreak
Lol this music discussion... Really, there is a HUGE variety of music out there. Compare classical to RnB, punk to jazz, they r so different they cant be more different. But they r all music. And that means there r people who listen to each of these kinds of music. It's ridiculous to tell ppl that they suck for listening to whatever kind of music they listen to. I can dislike the music, but I don't have anything against ppl who listen to it. They just have different taste that's all. I find it even more ridiculous when people say that "popular music is [cabbage], hate all pop and ppl who listen to the MTV songs r stupid". Imo most of those ppl just wanna try to be unique and even if they like a popular song they don't wanna admit it. Some ppl think music is all about lyrics and writing about "meaningful" stuff. (Btw, different things r meaningful to different ppl so don't try to judge if a song is meaningful or not.) Some ppl think it's all about the instruments and how well u play them, these ppl tend to think all songs that have been somehow computer edited or remixed r crap. To me, I really don't care, as long as it sounds nice and appeals to me in some way, whether it be the music, the instruments, the lyrics or whatever. From a technical point of view, classical music is generally acknowledged to be the "best" - Bach is generally acknowledged as the genius who knew his music, knew how to expand and manipulate themes excellently, knew how to play on the emotions of the listener. That doesn't mean it's what I listen to, and clearly not what you listen to. Don't assume your taste is absolutely the best out there. In the end, people like what they enjoy, but they enjoy based on different reasons - some love touching lyrics, some love great guitar riffs, some just want to be able to dance to it. And there are different "bests" depending on what you're looking for. So really... don't be so closeminded. Like what you like. I agree with drealy :D Everybody hug and spread the love :D
