What is the greatest sin?

Featured Replies

The worst sin one can possibly commit is breaking the lost 11th commandment.

The bible has your answer bra. No need for these silly topics.

Some where it says something about all sins being equally bad something about even thinking about killing someone is as bad as killing someone. Can't really remember though.

All sins are equal in their actions of separating us from God. Jesus came to give us a new covenant where one's motives are more important than one's actions (under the Old Testament).

But please don't say something about Scripture that you don't know about.

And Scruffy, I'd have to agree with you. Too many churches have preached on suicide and how terrible it is, etc. when it's not true, they don't quote the Bible for sure, and they just say that to judge people. I even agree with your viewpoint (as far as it goes to say that we should not leave a person in time of their greatest need). Great thinking!

I'm currently transitioning from a Wizard to a Mage and a Priest to an Archpriest. Lol both are nonexistant in the top 25. Hopefully I can change that. :D

In friendship, the biggest sin by far has to be sleeping with your childhood friends sister, or his mother. That is absolutely unforgivable.

He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart,

and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

Ok - going to fill me in on what you're talking about?

Not everyone likes Final Fantasy you know :uhh:

*slap* HEATHEN!

Sin is a... gigantinourmus creature. It became because of the peoples laziness of using machina (machines) to do everything. The machina worked while the people played. Then, a war broke out. Each side built better and bigger machina than the other side in an attempt to win over. Except in their doing so, they killed near enough everyone - on both side of the war. This gigantinourmus now terrorises the world to let them remember this war and make them repent for it.

Final Fantasy is made of awesome and win. ::'

Ugh, I hate noticing topics once they get 5 pages of replies. Too much to go through.

Sorry if this has been said, but aren't all sins supposedly equal in God's eyes, from a Christian perspective? I think I remember reading/hearing that lusting about a woman in your head is just as bad as actually going out and having an affair with her.

I guess it's all a matter of theology.

Maybe having false idols. Putting anything ahead of God has got to be pretty bad =D.

Oh, also while researching this topic a little bit, from a non-Chrstian stand point, I found this quote:

The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them,

but to be indifferent to them;

that's the essence of inhumanity.

The idea of suicide being the worst since you can commit comes from Catholicism. Their belief is that you must ask forgiveness for a sin from a priest before you die (i.e. the last rights) or you'll be sent to hell. Since suicide is viewed as murder, you go to hell because you've broken a commandment and obviously did not ask for forgiveness for it before you died (since your death and the sin were in the same action).

My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race.

However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.

You've changed your point of view on that matter I see Piano. I remember you saying pretty harsh things about suicide in a few of our PMs. I'm glad you did.

I can't say that I remember believing suicide to be unforgivable. I'm certainly not Catholic. :wall: Anyway, if you can find the pm, that'd be appreciated because I'm fairly certain I said nothing of the sort. But I'm glad you're happy with me? :)

I'm currently transitioning from a Wizard to a Mage and a Priest to an Archpriest. Lol both are nonexistant in the top 25. Hopefully I can change that. :D

Just read the first post, since you wanted people to do this without reading others' answers.

Well, the greatest 'sin'... I think... is all that you can consider a sin. I think making someone suffer is the greatest sin. Nobody should make others' lives miserable. You have no right. You would like to be happy, why make other's unhappy? I... I don't know. I really don't know. That's what I've always thought, but if you mean just 1... Well... I wouldn't know which one to say is the greatest. They are all equal no me.

Then again, I'm not really religious. I don't really believe in 'sin' either (I bleieve in rules broken, but not in rules created by a god(God in this case), I am merely expressing my point of view on these rules set by god (God) in a religion. And by greatest, I am in no way meaning unforgivable.

Religious Text is not permitted.

nvm

In my eyes all sin the the same, meaningless. I have never lived my life by a religous set of rules and I never will. I've attended church once in my life, and I can honestly say from the way I understood what was said there's no reason to worry about sins. I was told 'If you forgive your neighbors, the Lord will forgive you.' I understood that as if you forgive others for their sins, then god will forgive you for your own sins.

Also I do not fully believe in god mostly because his existence cannot yet be proven and until it is, I will continue my belief in many religions.

The greatest sin there is, is bashing gays or other minority groups in the name of religion.

Runescape: Lodev (Combat level been fixed at 101 for years now, Total level 1500+, playing since march 2002)

Arenascape: Lode (Level 240+ Warlock)

I think the following are no-where near the worst of sins;

1. Murder.

2. Abortion.

3. Pride.

4. Selfishness.

5. Violence.

6. Guilt.

7. Suicide, whether in a church or anywhere else.

These, I think, are the worst sins anyone can commit, though they may seem trivial in most circumstances.

1. Disrespect.

2. Refusing to listen to other people's opinions.

3. Well, I would like to say religion...but I kinda think that would be disrespectful. And it goes against the first two. :?

You've contradicted yourself in a big way.

1. Disrespect - tell me murdering someone isn't disrespecting them.

2. Refusing to listen to other peoples' opinions - tell me that isn't down to pride.

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

You know what?

I totally agree... :D

Taking an others life, unless it comes down to you and the other person (so defending your country is semi on the line....).

I think that all sins are just as bad, and that we should repent. Religous i'm talking. If you're meaning "what's the worst thing you can do" I'd say murder or turn away from God. That's my opinion though.

What's a sin?
