August 22, 200619 yr When a new skill is released how would you like them to be. For example when Runescape just started out there were already skills in there. Do you like skills to be released just out of the blue? Another example is Farming, we were given plenty of warning about it and were given time to prepare for the skill. Also Construction was simply hinted at, no real conclusive statement saying "We're releaseing Construction today". My last example is Herblore, you had to complete a quest. Would you like to have to complete a high level quest to be able to start a skill? So how would you like the next skill (whatever it is) to be released? You're not limited to what I said. Those were just example of what has happened in the past. There must be other ways.
August 22, 200619 yr Out of the blue, with a hint released before hand. BTW how were Slayer and Runecrafting released? Me doing staff.
August 22, 200619 yr Mabey Grave-Robbing, and they'd tell us in advance. Then they make us wait for about a month and drop the happy bomb by giving it to us. Will update when I feel like it.
August 22, 200619 yr How about the addition of a quest, like with Herblore, but with one change. Make the addition of the skill completely unannounced. The skill won't be seen on the Stats page until you complete the quest. For example, if "Hunting" were to be the new skill (which I doubt it will be, way too similar to Slayer), you'd do a quest where you had to hunt a bunch of different monsters. At the end, you get the message from the quest NPC "I think you're ready for me to teach you the skill of Hunting!" You get the Quest Finish message, and then are told to look at your Stat screen. Out of the blue, the new skill is there. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
August 22, 200619 yr Author Out of the blue, with a hint released before hand. BTW how were Slayer and Runecrafting released? Runecrafting was there when RS2 launched. Slayer though, can't really remember that one. I'll look through the Kbase and edit. Edit: I see someone already answered, but here's what I found. Here's the News Article on it. It doesn't seem to say "Look, we told you we were going to do this!" so I'd guess it was out of the blue like darkblade said.
August 22, 200619 yr Out of the blue, with a hint released before hand. BTW how were Slayer and Runecrafting released? Slayer was released reletively out of the blue. And Runecrafting was made with the creation of Runescape 2, since magic would become much more independant from all other forms of combat. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
August 22, 200619 yr I like em shaken not stirred It really depends what kind of skill it would be Like construction, It would have been nice to say it was coming out this month. Summoning, if it does come out I would like a suprise. Just like an update then at the end, o yeah summoning came out today well today at 11:30 am 14 years ago i was born.. wo0t!!!At 11:30 you should start holding your head underwater wo0t!!!Stop acting such a moron.
August 23, 200619 yr Mabey Grave-Robbing, and they'd tell us in advance. Then they make us wait for about a month and drop the happy bomb by giving it to us. Robbing = theiving, theiving = a current skill. :P

Those were just example of what has happened in the past. There must be other ways. I would say the herblore quest is not "high level" Qizx2- ArchmagePersonnumber100- Warlock for life.Would you?
August 23, 200619 yr I remember slayer being released completely out of the blue. There were rumours circulating that they only released it because Zezima was going to max out. :P
August 23, 200619 yr I think there are enough basic skills. I would like jagex to subdivide skills and not make all of them available to everyone at the same time... An example is you would have to choose if you want to specialise in druid magic, chaos magic, white magic or necromacy. Of course to build this sub skill to the end you could say: druid mage 99 only available if mage and herblore are 99. Chaos: mage and firemaking White mage: prayer and mage Necromancy: Construction (skeleton building?, dungeon?, machining?) and mage Or when craft is 99 en smith is 99 you could become a dragon armour grower, you could bring dragon armour pieces back to its components and grow new armours out of them. And so on and so on, of course now comes the BUT. But only make 1 or 2 specializations available to 1 account and the "works" leading up to specialization should also be though... This could be quests, payments... 2100+ total 3rd best skiller ever at 99 combat (maybe the best, highest total below 100 cb)99 Cook 99 Fletch 99 Woodcut 99 Firemaking 99 Range 99 Mage 99 Thief 99 Fish 99 Agility 99 Mining 99 Runecrafting 99 Hp 99 Slayer 99 Smith 99 Hunt 99 Construction 99 Craft 99 Farming
August 23, 200619 yr Author I would say the herblore quest is not "high level" I was showing an example of how a skill was introduced and suggesting that maybe a DIFFERENT skill would come out but only if you complete a DIFFERENT high level skill. We all know Druidic Ritual isn't a high level quest. Just an example to help the flow of imagination. Sorry that the message got tangled.
August 23, 200619 yr they need to make a skill only even show up on the screen if you have done quest like desert treasure only a lot harder  Hidden Updates- yea, theres a whole new skill... 485th person to ever play RuneScapeBlue107- perm banned 10/12/2007. $300 USD reward if you can get me in contact with someone who will take 5 seconds to look at evidence and get my original character unbanned.
August 23, 200619 yr Out of the blue. No hints or clues or nothing, just one day Jagex is like "Osnapthat'sright, new skill." Or them not even announcing it. What great fun that would be. Maybe have a quest go with it. They'd announce that of course. Just not say anything about the skill. FUN.
August 23, 200619 yr i want the new skill to be dropped during halloween and i want it to be tradeable ffs!
August 23, 200619 yr The "Hidden Skill At The End Of A Quest" would only stay 'hidden' about 2 days, especially with as many forums as RS is gaining...
August 23, 200619 yr The "Hidden Skill At The End Of A Quest" would only stay 'hidden' about 2 days, especially with as many forums as RS is gaining... Lol 2 days?! With Tip.it it will be told in like 30 mins of the release. Trust me it wont be hidden for long. A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.
August 23, 200619 yr It would be hard to "hide" a skill since everyone would notice the addition to the stats menu and high scores. 98% of teenagers have been drunk or around alcohol. Put this in your signature if you like bagels
August 23, 200619 yr Have it be a hidden skill, of which you don't see on the skill list UNTIL you complete the same long quest with high requirements that was released that day. Then as say a reward, "Awesome I can now do the new juggling skill!"
August 23, 200619 yr Out of the blue, with a hint released before hand. BTW how were Slayer and Runecrafting released? Slayer was released reletively out of the blue. And Runecrafting was made with the creation of Runescape 2, since magic would become much more independant from all other forms of combat. My friend is pretty high up with the JaGex mods, so I myself knew about slayer some .. 14-15 hours before it came out. Of course, at the time I was level 30 and had only been a member for about a week. And when my friend was describing slayer to me he said it would be "A new style of attack." so I thought he meant on the combat interface screen, like ... Accurate Agressive Defensive Slayer You know? My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race. However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.
August 23, 200619 yr I like knowing ahead of time, especially when they release items for you to gather ahead of time like they did with farming. The fun of the skill wasn't really spoiled before the launch and a lot of the tedious pre-levelling work was gotten rid of. I just wish stuff like farming boots and spending hours at farmers killing for 2gp tools that were sold in shops we would have known would have been so easy to get, but other than that I do like knowing details ahead of time.
August 23, 200619 yr I'd like a skill requiring completion of hard quest which you need high quest points and all skills say 70+, oh and make it so alot of it is random and different for most players so people can't just use a quest guide =P~
August 23, 200619 yr i would like to have them outta the blue. a big shocker would be nice. i dont know what kind of skill they would come out with for a new one.
August 23, 200619 yr I kind of liked the way farming was released. Adam007 described it pretty well. But, what I'd really to to see is an "out of the blue" one where there were no hints, tips, or pages posted on RS's site (so all those peepers don't let the cat out of the bag too early.)
August 23, 200619 yr I'd like it the way thieving was released, I believe. Wasn't the whole city of Ardougne introduced with the skill? If not, then I'd like a huge update, say a new continent with two or so cities, and a quest including the new skill. Say, if the new skill was Refinery (Customize weapons for different bonuses), the whole Eastern land expansion would be added, with only one quest, but with a lot of new lands and secrets to explore, maybe a dungeon or two. The quest would be a difficult one with 60+, or maybe 70+ requirements, but would allow you to start the skill before ALL of the requirements were needed. Jack of all trades, master of thieving. 259th to 99 thieving. All stats 75+
