classic metal and rock,

spidermancityod6.png

pixel sig and avatar by me.

Nadril, I dont really have any black metal music, can you reccomend some?

Burzum

Bathory

Dimmu Borgir [Possibly his older stuff]

Venom [Old stuff]

Behemoth

1349

And my personal favorite [although, its very obscure] Ildjarn

:D

any combination of indie, rock, or punk

I'm leaning more and more towards black metal right now. Although I still consider myself predominantly death metal.

I've always liked black metal over death personaly :).

What bands out of that genre are you listening to right now? Might be able to give you a few good sugestions. :)

Older dimmu borgir. Mainly because of their keyboard sound. Shagrath is a great screamer too, I'm loving it!

Metal fans, check out my band!

Still the King....

Sorry, I forgot your taste was the best. Next time I'll listen to something else.
I wasn't bashing your taste. Metal is just bad... plain and simple. Kudos to you for giving metal groups a point to live, god knows they need one...

But hey thats just my opinion... And seeing as there are so many people that like metal on this forum I need to stick up for my taste..

Care to explain why it's bad? I'm interested in your summing up all the genres within metal in one post :) .

Because I see no musical qualities in it. Not only metal but most hard rock and for that matter some classic rock. I'm not saying my favorite genres always hit the mark some of the stuff I listen is really bad. But then I stop listening to it. With metal and hard rock I can't even start without stopping it within 10 seconds because its SO far away from what good music sounds like..

Why are The Beatles great? because they have musical qualities.

Why is metal bad? because there is no musical qualities.

Metal has no musical qualities... right. Your comments are really insulting because I am a huge fan of metal and you have no idea what you are talking about. To be a good metal guitarist takes a hell of alot of talent, more than most artists in most genres.

Some case studies would be Lamb of God (the guitarists and the drummer are all technically brilliant, the drummer [Chris Adler] is widley acclaimed as on of the best metal drummers going around). Parkway Drive (again, thier guitarists and drummer are technically brilliant, listen to thier soloing and the shred/tapping at the end of the second song of the album - 'killing with a smile' - it made me [cabbage] my pants). I Killed the Prom Queen (pretty much the same reason of Parkway - thier breakdowns and guitar/drums all round are sick as).

And many, many more.

If you dont like metal, fine, but if you just spout ignorant statements such as 'they have no musical qualities', im going to cut you down because you are just wrong.

Holy feces...

Did he just say that metal, hard rock, and some classic rock doesn't have "musical quality." And who defines this "quality" in music? You? Ha! Pathetic.

Supermonk, proving you wrong since 1992.

Supermonk rocks, I want to have his children.

Music is like candy. You always get rid of the rapper.

You're just as pathetic with that lame line in your signature (because they all three are equally lame I need to point out which part: the rapper part). Christ, he said that two months ago or something. Why are you getting worked up over it anyway. Metal sucks and everybody knows it. Ha! And I'm not gonna explain why!

Thanks for your worthless opinion. I'm sure we all care.

No, I'm not. I'm just pretty much fed up with these guys here only listening to metal (is it an image thing?) acting like their genre is exceptionally harder to play than any other kind of music, and leaves every other kind of music far behind it. And then when somebody comments about that they all start crying. So just to make things a little bit balanced again, I had to say that.

For the record I don't think I've ever said that metal is harder to play than other genres. It does take talent, yes, but creating any kind of music takes talent.

As far as image thing, hardly. [i can't tell if your being sarcastic or serrious here btw]. I have one metal shirt and thats an Iron Maiden one I got ;p.

Anyways, thought I should put out my opinion.

he is. My favorite black metal vocalist has to be Varg from Burzum though, very good screamer/growler and a smart man too.

I just thought I'd help your perception change a bit.

I dont listen to only metal, by any means. Nor do I see it as an 'image thing'. I also like:

Rock, Alt Rock, Heavy Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Prog Rock, Pop Rock (the Beatles, Jeff Buckley [i added this because I loathe most 'pop' music]) and generally any music that is good and has effort and thought put into it.

Heavy Metal, for the most part, is quite hard to play (I am a guitarist myself and tend towards playing mostly Lamb of God music) although I totally agree that there are many more styles of music that are equally or harder to play (such as flemenco, fusion, some jazz, blues and classical).

At least, I think that.

I think I already made a post here, but my taste has changed a bit since then. My music taste has been getting steadily heavier over the last six months (mainly the fault of a friend who keeps on sending me Arch Enemy and Slayer albums) and I'm focusing much more on metal than previously. I still listen to lots of other things but as seen on my Last FM (Damn I love this thing), Slayer, Slipknot and Stone Sour have really taken up most of my music time.

Slipknot are great, I havent listened to them in ages but.

dunno, what was it called, "classic rap"? Who knew ppl wud begin distinguishing between new and old rap so sharply? Well other than rap, i like slowish rock...Dunno wat u call it, classic? again? I listen to some random music of other genres if theyre good too. Oh, and i love parody or joke-themed songs/skits,, like those of wierd al yankovic or dave chappelles.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Metal, black metal, death metal, hard rock, classic rock, grunge, punk, old metal, classical. Pretty much anything but pop or country 8-)

There is such a clear line in rap music in accordance to today's music, and music from a good 10 years ago, I don't believe it takes much to realise the difference.

SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.

It's near impossible for me to have a single favourite of anything. I go through dramatic phases of different genres, then grow tired of them, find something new, etc etc.. At the moment:

- Foreign / World Music - especially French (anything, as long as it's in French - to help with listening..)

- Soundtracks: anything ranging from anime soundtracks (Samurai Champloo OST) to movie soundtracks (The Pianist)

- Golden oldies: Cilla Black, the Righteous Brothers.

I'm not a big fan of 'contemporary' music...

GRINDCORE.

RETIRED:Xtnucx

Kanonator

Termionkatil

Undead Str

Led Floyd

Good music. =D

Rock, metal, classic, punk, oldies, not pop.
