Viktorkrum77
Basically, are you more concerned about the happieness of someone else or yourself? Do you put yourself first, or do you put others first? Me doing staff.
GordanFreeman
I mainly put others first if the situation arises, just what i've done ever since i can remember. "El que no arriesga no gana"

Soulthresher
if u put urself infront of others ur somehow selfish in the eyes of some if u put them infront of u, ur "noble" and just but who is more important? you or some other person? the situation is different. personally if its a family member or close freind, ill put them infront of me. if its anyone else i dont give a flying [bleep] about them. im more important than them
deloriagod
Chances are, if I don't know the person I'm not going to put them before myself. However if it's someone I know/care for I always put them before myself. Internet Marketing For Newbies
Anesthesia
One could argue that you always put yourself first - by putting someone else first you hope that it will benefit you in some way; be it by gaining their affection, getting something back from them in the future or making yourself look good to them or someone else. One can argue that there is no such thing as true altruism. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

One can argue that there is no such thing as true altruism. Aristotle, I believe, said that everything that anyone ever does is either in the pursuit of pleasure or the avoidance of pain (which is ultimately the pursuit of pleasure). Always for yourself in some way or another... it suggests that altruism can never be 100% pure.
Anesthesia
Still it depends on the definition of altruism - a father would gladly sacrifice himself to save his son, one has to decide whether his doing this grants him pleasure/does him good even in death. mad4u689
Ideally, myself, completely. Practically, more myself than other people, but I don't care about either as much as I should. One can argue that there is no such thing as true altruism. I was going to say survivial instincts(overall). That means if it comes down to an older person and a younger person, both having normal health, the older would sacrifice themselves for the younger. But mine is flawed and anesthesia is much better. Anyways, it depends on the circumstances, but I see myself putting me in front of everyone else. (Harsh, but at least I'm telling the truth.) Well, unless I'm pretty darn old and saving those important to me, I'd probably say, eh screw it, I'm gona die soon anyways. \
Nadril
Mostly.. myself. I'm fine with helping others, but I generaly do think of my self first. You know, i'll help if it isn't going to take too much out of my time generaly.

assassin_696
Day to day i'll think of myself first, for good friends and family i'll normally try and put them first. But for somebody, i'll always put her first, without hesitation. It might not be true altruism, but it's still self-sacrificial. When they ask me to take over a shift, and I'm really tired and don't really want to. I know I should say no, but I say yes just because they ask me and I can't say no. But when I ask them something, most of the time I don't get it. I should toughen up a little. :P Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
