For the most part, this rule is enforced only via complaints. Jagex will not randomly check for someone's age unless there is absolute and undeniable evidence (which would be 99.9% impossible by regular means) that the child is under 13.

It's amazing how many people put their birth year into their name. We've all seen names like "Jasper91", "Fred1989" and occasionally "Betty1996".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note these are just examples, and probably not real player names. It's kind of funny how many people under 13 put their year of birth in their name like this, despite only minutes before creating their account, purposely lying about their age.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

IMO the no under-13's rule is in place for a reason, and people should respect that rule. Certainly some of the conversations and attitudes I've seen people have in Runescape - I wouldn't want anyone under 18 to witness those let alone anyone under 13.

Personally i do not think that it is neccessary. It really should be 10 and over, many children are mature, and those who are not mature will get banned anyway. So it should be lifted.

its just to cover their a$$es so if they somehow get sued because somebody did somthing to a under-13 player they wouldnt be liable (in the us anyway, because of COPPA)

Really though, what's to say a 13 year old won't give out personal details, and a 12 year old will? Or a certain 13 year old is more mature then a 12 year old? Because it could be the other way around.

Jagex should make the age page "flash" when it says "are you sure you are above the age of 13?" "If not...so and so...." That would scare off some people :wink:

Runescape has a "cartoonish" appearance, which often attracts young fellers aged 11-12, etc.

I'm glad the age restriction is there, this means that Jagex can introduce more mature content into the game.

my bro was 12 when he started playing rs... and hes older then 13 now... and they just want to know what the age is of a new player from a new ip... i sad i was 60+ once...

IMO i think this game should be 16 and up. Theirs alot of mean unsymathetic kids that play this game. They swear (they shouldn't be, way to young), and are too young for a game like this. They just ruin the game. Thats prolly one of the main reasons why i quit Rs, and moved on to Wow, at least theirs no angry 12 years old their yelling "g1v3 m3 fr33 st0ph pl0x" (well so far i haven't seen any). Too bad this will never happen though, but it really doesn't consern me anymore.

I don't think its a question of being too young per-se.... I know some really horrible people who are like 14-16... seriously I think its just the older players (mostly guys!) that ruin the game... most of the younger players sometimes quit (i guess...) when they find that they can't handle the game.. and those that stay are usually smart enough to play the game or they get outside help from nice runescapions.

Honestly, Jagex knows they will play. Their game is on Miniclip. What do they expect? Majority of Miniclip users to just not play? I mean if you hit you are below 13, and it says you cannot sign up, I'd say 95% of people would hit the back button and select an older age.

I have not heard about this before, and I think it's pretty good. I mean RS is a pretty complicated game, and if you not live in britian or U.S.A you can't speak english so good that it takes to play this game.

The 13+ rule is rediculus. Tecnicly, they are not bound by COPPA true, but the reason this rule is in place, is because of content "not intended for people under 13", when little inapropriate content is used. (The only i know of is low graphics combat (no offence to JAGEX) and alcohol) Honestly I think this rule should be reduced to like 11 or something.

yea, i understand it. There are some bad peeps on f2p. I was trying to make my zombie for the halloween event, and when making the account, i accidently clicked 12 or under instead of 13-17, and couldn't make it until the next day.

Im only 12 but my parents don't care that i play runescape. I don't think the 13 and above rule is really that smart anyway. Im a 12 year old girl and im probably maturer them most 14 year old boys.
