But Dutch isn't the same as English, if we say Holland, we ought to mean the province, yes, but in English Holland is the country, a synonyme of the Netherlands. It's because in the early and late middle-ages the people in the northern parts of the Netherlands (=the complete current country of the Netherlands) were called Hollanders and the people in the southern parts (=northern Belgium) were called the Flemish.
