ronnyuk Posted November 16, 2006 Share Posted November 16, 2006 The best way would be like Half-Life games, you all have an ID which is what is linked with your character, when you change you name that name will change but your ID will always stay the same.       As to scammers and reporting this would need to be changed so if someone needs to be reported you just right click on there character and choose report, choose offence then send, this will send Jagex the name they are using but the backend will link that name to that RuneID.       Messenger programs and Steam ID's have worked like this for years so why can't runescape?       If your friends are stupid enough to change there name every day then that's their lookout, get some new firends :) Quit Runescape 10 jan 2007 - Playing again 2012 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would expect them to charge some cash for the name change.        The implications of it all are enormous if you think about hardware, software, account registration, account maintenance, abuse report handling. Not to mention the impact it will have on the social interactions inside the game :       'Hi XXXX',    'who are you ?',    'I used to be YYYY'    'yah right.       I wouldn't count on this to be implemented any time soon. Esh Posted November 16, 2006 Share Posted November 16, 2006 Like it's been said before, you give everyone a player ID that doesn't change (the player doesn't even need to know what the number is) and then link everything to that player ID even the friends and Ignore lists so that when Mymigtynoob changes to Dragoonluck it automacticly changes on the lists. You can also prevent scammers from using prevously dropped names by locking those names out for a period of time, say six months. Call it a cool off period. Inactive and banned names are off limits as well as names in the top 10,000 of RSC (but don't tell people this as they will just go to 10,001). Also put a 90 day limit on changing names, meaning that you can only change your name once every 90 days. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â As for the reputation bit, well that is something that has to be decided on by the player. Since no one is forcing you to change, you can keep your old name.
