Thieving - Peak Experience Per Hour Chart

NukeMarine

Recommended Posts

The release of the Gloves of Silence got me interested in thieving a bit. Based on timing (and messages from others), if you constantly thieve an NPC you'll discover you steal every 1.5 seconds and are stunned for 5.5 seconds when caught. With that, I made a chart that'll tell you your PEAK experience per hour so long as you know your success rate of the NPC you're thieving.

How to Use the Chart: Multiply the NPC's experience by the Multiple of your success rate. Does not take into account random events, chasing the NPC, or other minutia.

Scs% - Multiple

00% - 0

05% - 34

10% - 71

15% - 110

20% - 153

25% - 200

30% - 251

35% - 307

40% - 369

45% - 438

50% - 514

55% - 600

60% - 697

65% - 807

70% - 933

75% - 1080

80% - 1252

85% - 1457

90% - 1705

95% - 2012

100% - 2400

Ex: I'm 77 Thieving, I tested out 5 minutes at the following

Man (90%) - 8xp * 1705 = 13,640xp per hour

Farmer (85%) - 14.5xp * 1457 = 21,126xp per hour

Knights (75%) - 84.3xp * 1080 = 91,044xp per hour

Paladins (50%) - 151.8xp * 514 = 78025xp per hour

None were done using Gloves of Silence or bandits brew

If you'd like, players can submit their success rates. To submit, thieve successfully 1000 times and keep track how many times you failed. Submit as

Thieving Level, Glove Used, NPC, 1000 success, xxx failures

With 1000 successes, it takes away more of the randomness. Easiest to use on NPC's that give cash reward as you just wait till you have 1k times his reward or 2k chaos runes in case of Paladins.

~~Knights~~

Lvl 77 (w/ gloves) - 500 success, 120 fails : 81%

~~Paladins~~

Lvl 77 (w/ gloves) - 100 success, 105 fails : 49%

gloves of silence are pretty useless. I have 98 thieving, going for 99, and took valuable time out to get level 53(?), hunting to enable me to wear the gloves. Can`t say I noticed any difference in theving and very quickly they wore out. Tried another pair since, but same results. Just go without and save you`re time and money.

Obssesive compulsive - not me, I`m just totally addicted to RS :D

ask theblazikenmaster on TIF. He's a master thiever :)

an *cough* me...

actually, dork and tripsis and someone else are 99, i'd contact them first. Anyway, there's not much to ask is there? Anyway, my hunter lvl is to nooby to use them, so i'll stick to pyramid plunder :o

~100k seems like a pretty accurate match for Knights. Back when I was doing 91-93, if I wasn't distracted, I could get that much, but with difficulty.

The paladin number seems a bit high, however.

(99 thieving here.)

The gloves of silence are practically the most useless crap ever invented for thieving. There's simply no difference even if you wear 1 or not and wears off before you know it. I wasted my time getting 54 hunting for the gloves

ask theblazikenmaster on TIF. He's a master thiever :)
Another better word for him is: He's a master pickpocketer since he got 90+ thieving without pyramid plunder =D>

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

The point of the post was not about Gloves of Silence. That was the initiating factor for me to recalculate this chart as the one I submitted to RuneHQ way back when was wrong.

For thieving, I trap them into one spot and QUICKLY thieve them even when I'm stunned. It's hell on your mouse, so best to set up your keyboard "5" key to act as your mouse button.

As for Paladins, I only did it for 5 minutes, so my percentage is probably more than a tad off.

Aww I'm mentioned

Anyway, interesting table you have there. Pickpocketing really isn't the thing for me though, it kills my hand

I did 100 successes on Paladins and 500 successes on Knights using gloves. Knights took about 26 minutes, even with having to regain him after he disappears.

Getting 1k successes on Paladins looks like it'll take 100 monkfish worth of food. Pretty tedious as there's few spots to "freeze" the Paladin.

but yeah umega is right pp is still way out in front however I am impressed with your success rate on paladins with 77 thieiving and the gloves.

would be good to see this explored a bit more.

Have fun folks

I know this is going off-topic here, but I still think Pyramid Plunder is the best for thieving exp. :anxious:

The best by far is by using black jacks which is 200k + exp per hour.

How?

lol that was a good story but his eyesight must be poor... it's a well known fact that mods only drop garages on players.

Hello \'

All I know is that the gloves do not work at pyramid plunder. Seeing as I regard all other methods of training thieving as obsolete I cannot comment on the gloves' affect on pickpocketing.

Well I gave it go for one hour at the knights and counted the gp I got at the end to figure out how many picks I had got. (I have 85 thieving)

Didn't do it to maximum efficiency (lost internet connection for a couple of minutes, comp crashed, chased knight around market for 10-15 minutes for diversity)

However.... I got 60k coins or 1200 picks.

Thats 100k xp an hour and I only used up 4 gloves and about 2 full inventories of monkfish.

I was surpised that its way better than pyramid plunder where I get around 70k to 80k per hr.

Too bad its tiring, but I enjoy it more than pyramid plunder.

I find pyramid plunder to be expensive on supplies and tedious as I forget to check things and then realize as I click on the door out or as clock runs out on me before I finish.

My personal favorite is picking safes though.

Too bad its only like 40-50k xp an hr.

The gems you get are really nice.

At 85 thieving you should be getting 160k or so xp per hour, try reading my guide (link in sig) to see where you're going wrong o.O
