*sigh* Why do we even have a Friends List?

Before I begin, I'm not really sure if this topic should go in the Rants forum or the General forum, so I'm taking a gamble and posting it here. Please move it if necessary.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyway, I was maging the Hobgoblins near the Crafting Guild and literally 5 seconds after I logged in, a Ranger started talking to me... (I'll leave the name anonymous for the sake of his/her privacy):

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was kind of put off by their remarks simply for the fact that I'm just trying to relax and play a game the way I want. Why can't people just have a decent conversation without insulting or critiquing someone's stats or game habits? I'm starting to wonder why we even have a Friends List anymore if all people do is pick lame fights with each other.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Maybe I've just had the misfortune of not being able to find a nice F2P player whom I can have a decent conversation with without having to bring in stats and skills. Or, maybe it's my fault for having the intentions of just playing the game for fun. I don't know. Does anyone else get harrassed by random people like this often?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BTW: Heh, I took the time to look this player up in the HiScores and it turned out that he wasn't even in it. Yet he calls me an arrogant mager noob... :-k

I'd like to congratulate you on responding correctly. In the future, don't even waste your time responding to them. Ignore list helps me in this type of situation.

Being the fact that I'm level 92, no one harasses me. But when the time does come that someone decides to say ran(dumb) and stupid things about me, I thank Jagex for the [Public Chat - Friends] feature and turn it to Friends.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But if I really want to have a flame contest... then the heat (lol, flame contest, heat... -.-) really turns up. Usually the truth and I beat the opponent. :thumbsup:

i don't get harrassed by random people but i can't really understand why any1 would harrass sum1 else seeing as how they are playing the game as well. Besides it's hard to find a nice person in f2p seeing as how most of them are pcing, cwing, or doing something else.

That is why the ignore list is longer than the friends list. Also if you don't want to add him to your ingore than just put public chat off.

sometimes I tell them to bite me, wait to see response than ignore. When im fishing sometimes I world hop if all the chat at the karamja fishing spot is a flame war or compleatly stupid.

I usually never have anyone get all flamey on me, even if they did, I wouldn't care. Ignore them, beleive me it works and it's fun to see what they do to try to get you to reply to them.

Yes, I realize that turning public chat off is just a few clicks away and the Ignore List is always there, but it's the concept of non-friendly players that bothers me.

It may not mention the Friends List specifically, but what I meant was what's the point of having a list of people who you would call "friends" if all people do now is criticize your skills or your experience with the game? But yeah, perhaps I needed a new title... I was never very good at creating titles. :-$

I laugh off this kind of stuff. It's funny how he said "doesn't bother me" and then went on to insult you. It is annoying, but if you can change that into humor, your world gets a whole lot brighter.

Hey, there are lots of people who don't, you just have to sift through those who do.

 

 

 

I'll be your friend. Sounds like you're a reasonable type with good spelling and grammar. (good grammar is the only other thing then kindness I really care about, someone who says "cant o how me to faldor?" is not the kind of person I want to be friends with)

Haha, I don't mind talking about RS at all. Don't get me wrong. It's a fun subject to talk about while you're playing just as long as you're having fun. I just get annoyed when all players can talk about on the subject of RS is "ur mage lvl is sooo n00b!!1" or "free money plz?".

I'm F2P too and would wholeheartedly agree that decent conversations are few and far between on F2P worlds. The majority of players seem rude and ignorant people who are only interested in hurling childish insults at other players. Because of this I have quite a few names on my ignore list and...........em..............well...............no names at all on my friends list!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

While we're on this subject, am I the only one who doesn't bother replying when you're going about your business and someone wanders up and says "Range/Mage/Mining/whatever lvl?". Personally I find that a bit rude. If someone starts a conversation with me first and then wants to discuss levels that's fine though in my opinion.

I've had this same problem many a time and thanks to Jagex being incompetent and unfair, I've received 2 black marks in the past simply for defending myself well.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

These days, rather than take measures to stop these idiots or prevent myself from their interaction, I just don't play.

 

 

 

The attitude of, I'd say, 90% of F2P players is appalling. :(

This person was many of those pretty #("%# RS players out there. But there are not only bad people in RS! It is also also alot of nice people. Remember that!
