LeeLee
a bit biased i know   not every school suffers from this kind of situation :^o ,but too many do. Please comment, thankyou for taking the trouble to read it  Trend individuality Why is it that I constantly find myself thinking about what other people̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s reactions are going to be to my ensemble of clothing? Maybe it is just in my nature to worry constantly about what people think of my taste and me. But even so I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m definitely not the only one. Many people loathe the very idea of being seen as unfashionable, their clothes dated or their dress sense not up-to-the-minute. And I fear that I have become one of them. issy2
=D> =D> Few grammatical mistakes... but I loved reading it. You're so right, too. 'Cool' and 'trend' needs to be something personal. A great thing to write, (I've been wanting to read that for ages...)! =D> And I agreed with pretty much everything you said.

Itsjustagame
well, since I meet todays standards of "fashionable and 'cool'" while acting normally, im going to have to say nothing, and just do a little dance in my popularity
Jaziek
well put.. but seriously- the whole thing about chav and burberry.. its associated with chav 'cos thats what they wear, well, they wear fake, stolen burberry and fake, stolen designer tracksuits. I hate that look anyway, but its worse when the brands that they are wearing are fakes. I'll save every1 on this forum from me goin on an epic long rant about charvers (or chavs or whatever).. sufficed to say that i think that they are scum, who degrade whatever godforsaken place they inhabit. knives669
Well said. I can proudly say that I dress however I want. I'm made fun of alot for being the only girl in school who wears T-shirts and jeans. People often tell me that I dress like a guy, but I don't care. I wear what I want. At least my [wagon] isn't hanging out of my clothing. I swear to god, I see 6 to 7 butt cracks a day (belonging to both male and females), and it's all because they want to wear trendy clothing. People often ask me, even tease me about my hair being so long. They say it's burden and it gets in my way and it makes me look weird. But, I like it, and so do the people whose opinion really matters to me. Even if they didn't, it's my body and I can express myself however I want. I find it strange that people are so willing to stereotype themselves. But, whatever. Live and let live. Your words were very insightful. ^_^ It was an interesting read. rushrock
Beautifully written!!! : Some might say that I dress "goth", but I'm not goth. I'm my own style. Just because I choose to wear what I want, I won't be tucked away in a category that denounces my name. I'm wearing what I want, not what everybody else wants. I sincerely hope everyone can realize this. You're "cool" if you wear what you want, not what everyone else wants. Thanks for writing this.
kido14
I swear to god, I see 6 to 7 butt cracks a day (belonging to both male and females), and it's all because they want to wear trendy clothing. On Ripley's Believe It Or Not I saw the dumbest thing ever. Cleavage jeans. Google it if you want. Dumbest thing ever. OP: How old are you and are you male or female? Doughnut
I love my Hot Topic clothes. Personally I think wagons hanging out in the air should not be allowed, but I also think wearing slippers and stained sweat pants should not be allowed either. :-w "A time comes when silence is betrayal" MLKJ Speak your mind, but be civil.Get mad, but do not rage.Do unto others as you would want done to yourself. Adam007
Wow. I guess my highschool is just more understanding, but there are absolutely zero pressures like that. People wear what they feel like wearing and nobody says anything about it. I'd come into school tomorrow wearing pajama scrubs and a white t shirt and nobody would really say anything. I've never heard the word 'neek' before, but I'd imagine people only call you that because you get offended by it in the first place. People like you are the reason there are social pressures at your school. You actually care about what they think. You get offended. Well you don't need to. I guess that's too hard a thing to do because most teens are easily influenced by peer pressure, but come on. Just do what you feel like, wear what you want, and don't get so pressured and offended by what people say. I know you'll love it when you get out of highschool because those things don't matter anymore to anyone, but they shouldn't even matter now. The only time brands really mattered in my area were in middle school for like a year. Then people just stopped caring. People wear brands and all, and people are still judged by what they wear to an extent - but that's how life is. The only difference is I don't hear people being insulted like you have to deal with. The one thing I've learned about insults, however, is that if you ignore who's insulting you, they just give up. People insult each other because they love reactions. They'll continue to insult you because you react. They made fun of your ribbons so you took them off. Instead you should have ignored them and not cared about what they thought. You would really enjoy yourself a lot more if you just changed your mentality, which it sounds like you're beginning to.
deloriagod
I swear to god, I see 6 to 7 butt cracks a day (belonging to both male and females), and it's all because they want to wear trendy clothing. Rest assured, you'll never see mine while I've got clothes on ;) *For the record, I'm a guy* I agree with many points you made. Though I've never heard the word 'neek' before. I suppose it's because I live in the U.S. I'll admit, I care about my education but I slack too much. My strong points are English, history, and art. In my school there isn't a whole lot of preassure to wear trendy clothes. Of course, you'll wear what you need to in order to fit in. I wear jeans that could almost be considered bell-bottoms (tight in the rear/thighs and loosen around the calves/ankle), a comfortable pair of shoes, and tight t-shirts (I'm not afraid to show that I don't fall into the 'fat lazy American' sterotype). What you call 'chavs' are generally called something more along the lines of 'gangstas' around here. Some of them are ok, but some are just annoying. The biggest thing I want to point out about chavs is how all these well-off white kids want to be black and from the ghetto. I don't think they understand what that would be like (without their PS3s, fancy cars, and nice clothes). I guess my response is a little messy (sorry!), but I was skimming back through your post, picking out points I felt I'd like to comment on.. Despaxes
Maybe being from a smaller cty helps, but usually people are just accepted, and its actually distasteful to copy eachothers style, i know i hate to try something new, and then the next day see 10 people doing it. And if you truely care about what people think, conform and get over it. And if you truely dont care what ppeople think, dont conform, quit complaining about people expressing what they think, and get over it. Problem solved =) thanks everyone for the sigs! dwarfdude3
More like 'A musing on fashion' than anything else. One can get by without conforming to certain fashions, as long as they look decently. The real problems are in other aspects of a related nature.
