"Classes" of RS aren't balanced, but adds vareity

In Runescape, there are 4 character combat classes. The well known Warrior, the Ranger, the expensive Mage and the not-so-well-known Prayer Beast. I'll explain each class. :)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Most newbies to Runescape will have an affinity for the Warrior class. It's easy to start killing things like cows, goblins, etc. Plus there is easy access to food. So most newbies stick with that class for a while until they have done the things they wanted to do in Runescape with the Warrior class.

 

 

 

Universally the Warrior is the easiest class for all players, even the expierenced. The Warrior can deal the most amount of damage than any other class. You don't need any ammo for melee, although food is probably similar to keep yourself fighting your target. With good defense, attack and strength you can keep fighting any creature for a good amount of time with ease. The Warrior is mainly used for monster fighting rather than PKing, seeing as practically all monsters in Runescape use melee combat. Although the melee weapon dragon dagger is especially useful at PKing due to it's very fast and repetitive special. The Warrior is also the commonly used combat class for the Slayer skill.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Ranger is probably the second easiest class, but not everyones favourite. It does get a little difficult for the player that is attuned to the upfront, no-ammo Warrior. With the Ranger, you need to find a "safe spot" so that the creature your fighting can't attack you while your safely ranging it from behind a table or mushroom. The Ranger obviously needs arrows, which aren't free in large loads. Usually the player needs to pick up the the arrows to re-use them again, even then some arrows that you shoot will dissappear.

 

 

 

For the Ranger to be efficient in combat, the ranger needs to wear Leather armour, because ranger armour increases the accuracy of the ranged skill. This forces the player to wear weakish armour which of course makes upfront ranging not very good. So in turn makes the player range behind an obstacle.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You really need to be more expierenced about the game to be a succesful mage. Most newbies to Runescape will think that walking the path of a Mage will be just as easy as the Warrior and probably more awesome. Being a Mage uses runes, unlike arrows, runes are non-refundable when casting spells in combat so you need to be efficient in combat. Runes are also very costly, so Mage is the most expensive class.

 

 

 

Mages are best being in the wilderness - PKing. The Ancient spells (being the most expensive to use) like Ice barrage are best used on enemy players: It stops the victim fleeing while dealing damage. The spells of a Mage have a damage cap, regardless of the Mage's magic level. God spells (not charged) can only deal 20 damage, most good warriors have no trouble dealing that kind of damage. Ice barrage can deal up to a max of 30 damage, still not bad but somewhat restictive to the Mage in someways.

 

 

 

The armour for a mage has a very similar principle to the Ranger's armour; making the Mage wear magic bonus robes, but making it weak to melee attacks. Most of the other magic spells are generally used for outside combat, so I'll leave that part of being a Mage out.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There is another class called the Prayer beast (aka the Monk) which not many people know about it, probably because it offers very little in combat. Basically it's a player that focuses on activating Prayer bonuses to mainly enchance melee combat. The armour and weapon for a Prayer beast is a mace and holy robes/holy plate armour. Because this is a flawed class is the fact that you need lots of your very little amount of prayer points to be good. Altars are usually very far from where you are doing combat. These days the Prayer beast class is generally used alongside (or just the actual prayer skill is used) with the Warrior class.

im sure future white knight quests will make monks alot more popular.

malo has a good point since firther prayer+melee armour is useful

I don't think I know a single person that comes anywhere close to fullfilling this class. Can you expound on this idea? I mean, I know 99 Prayer people, but they're generally something like maxed out in combat and/or Mage and/or Range.

i agree with you, melee is overpowered, but range and mage add tactical stratagies or whatever... lol

I have to agree so much with this...I trained my melee stats (atk, str and def) all to lvl 60, before I had even reached level 30 on my mage and range, which shows how much melee really dominates today's combat. Now I know better than that when training new accounts, do the hard stuff first, then melee. 8-)

I know what tanks are, but they aren't really classed as combat class. I'd rather call them semi-defence pures.

Well Jagex actually thinks this is a class. In one of thier polls, they had "What class do you fall into?" And they had prayer beast down as a choice. What a prayer beast is (or a Monk I should really say) really is, is a weaker form of the warrior, but uses more prayers longer. Yes warriors can do that to, it's just that Jagex thinks that the monk is a combat class.

Raised Mage next because I got tired of annoying little pkers bothering me when I was doing clues, so I quickly raised it to 94 for ice barrage, which does wonders when used with DD++ spec to bury a few wannabes. Quickly was said in complete jest, as it was anything but fun to fletch and alch that many bows...but it got the job done.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Range...worthless IMHO, I raised that only because I got tired of having a low combat stat, and getting smack about it from other high levels. SO even though it is a extremely weak, and boring skill, I pecked a little at it now and then. meh. :uhh:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prayer beast? that just kind of goes hand in hand with melee, IMO.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I prefer melee of course, especially when training, 1-3 hits with melee or 1-3 minutes plucking a crystal bow...you do the math :XD: :ohnoes: :XD:

slayer specific: 103 whips, 38 dark bows and 250+ dragon boots dropped to date.

Dragon drops: 5 Half shields, 21 drag legs, 8 dragon skirts, and 9 drag meds dropped to date.

If you want to stop there i guess, But i wouldnt limit it to 4 classes.

They are affective, but are best used in combination with another class to bring out their best atributes.

Unfortunately, most people, regardless of magic level/xp, don't know how to use it properly like I do :D Only cons of it are it is difficult (but possible) to "KO" people with magic. For the best results it's easier to bring a dds or a msb with you

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ironic how prayer has the highest max hit for its combat level/skill level. Teh Unseen is like 15 combat with 99 prayer and can hit ~25 via retribution :P

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also, mages have usually the most expensive PK'ing style (2.5k per ice barrage), rangers have an affordable PK'ing style, and warriors can almost PK for free now (minus the cost of supplies) since most of their equipment they use is now untradable :roll:

Anyway, nice read. I think people have to start complaining about the unbalanced combat triangle, as that isn't gonna do squat. I believe that it's very hard for jagex to create a completely balanced triangle, and keep it that way forever. New updates for each side have to come out, it becomes unbalanced, etc, etc...Anyway, i'd agree in saying warriors are the most common, and easiest in a way. Most new players like to see magic as something cool and because they're 12 year olds obsessed with magic...lol, but that's just a generilization \' Range is a class overlooked occasionally, but f2pers can find it difficult without being able to make arrows, which i don't think enough p2pers take advantage of either, with normal logs being hard to cut.
