Aneron
I have had a total of 4 months of cumulative membership, during that time I only got 2 level 3 clues (I dropped all the others). I didn't get anything worth millions, but I made a few hundred k. I don't actively seek out clues, but if I get one, and it's level 3, sure I'll do it. nightspirit
I enjoy my treasure hunting. the only thing holding me back is me being able to get the clues... Eccentric
I recently got into thieving; I just discovered pyramid plunder, which is a lot of fun. I've been a bit of TT fanatic for awhile now though. Of course going into wildy isn't fun (some bad experiences as a rune miner out there back in the day still haunt me lol), and some of the rewards end up not being so great, but it's still fun. I've gotten some useful items; you can never have too many rune woodcutting axes, and who can say no to a rune plate or platelegs? Personally, I only do lvl 3 clues as I don't have much need or space for lvl 1 and 2 items. I've been spending some time training other things, but once I'm done with that I'm going back to splick some ankou. Killing ankou helps temper the disappointment of a not so great clue result because they have such great drops that fighting them the only thing you feel like you might be losing out on is a bit of exp; they get really crowded though, which is a little frustrating at times, but you can't have it all. As for whether thieving and doing TTs has declined; I don't think it actually has. Both things have had a core of people who love doing them and stay dedicated to doing them; some of those people do other things over time, but there are always a few new people to fill up those gaps. The people who don't have fun doing it stop pretty quickly; TTs are a gamble, and thieving isn't that great for making money when compared to some other skills. Basically, I think it's a perceived artificial decline caused by, as others have noted, the recent updates that caused a huge short term swell in the number of people doing TTs and whatnot; I'm sure the new bank in Sophanem got a few people thinking about doing pyramid plunder again. It's just business as usual.

mario_sunny
I think people have been turned away from TT because of the low percent of profit. TT is there for fun and fun only. I have done 3 TT (all level 1's) in the past 2 days and the best I have gotten was a Black Full Helm. It is discouraging but it spices up your RuneScape life and makes you always hope for new things =). As for a decline in TT items? No way. Look at the fourms. The TT threads and being created by the heaps! The fourms moving faster than the fletching fourm! I posted a thread and I clicked "Back to TT threads" immediately after I posted a bump, and it was halfway down the page already! So no, there is not a decline in TT items. (BTW TT = Treasure Trail.) Best TT item: Sara plate, sold for 1.1M!! Anyways, I totally agree, TT items are not declining at all. I really don't know where you got that idea anway. By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( . SirHartlar
I do all of my level 3 clues, most of my level 2 clues and some of my level 1 clues. Because of the new emote challenges it makes the clues a bit harder for me.
fakeitormakeit
mario_sunny Anyways, I totally agree, TT items are not declining at all. I really don't know where you got that idea anway. First of all I never said I agreed we are just discussing it. Secondly If you ask me I really don't care if people don't like clues that much, I'll do lvl1s. 2s and 3s. Bloodveld
I used to love clues (got tons of those range hats), but the new clues take much longer, require ridiculous items (I mean, who has addy squares? -.-), and the chance of getting the new items (the whole reason for the new clues) is 1/10000. I just finished one (with 7 total clues, all new #-o) and got about 100k in rune items. You know, the ones that take forever to sell even on free worlds. :^_^: I drew that smilie, btw, along with a few more used by this site.Classic bloodveld for lyph3! Although I do like the new ones.Like a ninja, here I was, gone I am now.BUT! I may be back! Add my new account, Dr Bloodveld!
jepa69
If by 'treasure hunters' you mean people that just sit at HAM or jellies collecting clues and doing them, I agree completely. More and more people are figuring out everyday what an enormous waste of time to attempt to make a 'living' off treasure trails is. The fact is, treasure trails has a considerably LOW chance of giving you good items, and it's not worth trying to make your cash that way. But there is no shortage of treasure trails items. It may be a complete waste of time to try to make ends meat in runescape off of treasure trails, but hey, if you're training your slayer, and your task monster just happens to drop a clue... why not do it? Truthfully, i'd say that 99% of the treasure trails items come from people just TRAINING that get clue drops, then do them. However, I'd say there is a bit less due to Pest Conntrol products training there instead of at monsters that drop clues. hehe meat At the moment i can't really see the full form of the muffin. Torlen
Ill do clues whenever I get them on slayer tasks, but Ive never actively went to seek them out. They are alot more fun when you consider that no matter what you get, thats money you didnt have before. With enough practice lvl 3s shouldnt even take more then 15 minutes. the_drunk_dude
with barrows, all these new capes, all these new quests, the guilded and trimmed armors just arent as popular anymore, simple as that
Will H
I doubt it is in decline. I think that we are split into two groups here, those who are lucky and get a 3rd age armour piece or something simelar, and those who got 3 bronze picks or the like. It is simply luck, and I doubt you will be complaining if you got a 3rd age armour piece. ~ W ~
Nickelliston
Personally, I love TT and thieving. Whenever I don't know what to do on runescape I either steal or hunt jellies for lvl 3 clues. Thieving is pretty rubbish as a way to make money and I've never had a good item from TTs but I love them anyway (except those damnable Uri clues). I think that the popularity of thieving and TTs has declined slightly but not by much. My friend you would not tell with such high zest / to children ardent for some desperate glory / the old lie: Dulce et decorum est / pro patria mori. These 'noobs' are not people as such, they are soulless creations of corporate greed. SirHartlar
I would never personally use T Trails as a main source of income, there is too much chance of getting a cheap reward. Of course, I will never drop a clue if I get it from a monster drop. You might be throwing away millions!
Leesters
With the house treasure chest, the newly added items, I think Treasure trails are as popular as ever. And I disagree that they don't make money. Level 3's always make money. And lets say you do green or blue dragons to get them. You have hides, bones, and clues. Three sources of income. I love clues. I've done close to a thousand. Also in a quest to fill the house treasure chest, and you never know.... there's now a party hat like item on the list. Third age shield is what... 120 mil? Lol. Just about any special item is cloe or not more than a million. Level 3 clues can be a huge profit. Level 1 and 2, no. I think treasure trails are as popular as ever, for those of us who always did them before, anyway. A circus in Runescape?? Oh my. REMEMBER RUNESCAPE KARMA! Be a nice player, and nice things will come back to you.I'm back, add me if you deleted me. :)
buffrichie
Level 3 clues was my quick money maker for awhile, backhand a few hellhounds, grab a clue and run. Go back and do another. Used to do 3 a night or so. As soon as Lunar magics was released, I (a non pker and solo player) decided that a group pkers consisting of of high lunar, ancients and reg magic could be quite troublesome. Not worth the annoyance, and I have since gotten different money makers. They can have the wildy, since I train and do everything alone, not worth the risk anymore. I used to bury a few wannabe pkers when they had the audacity to bother me when I was clue digging, or give them a taste of ice barrage and watch them scatter. But now? not worth the risk IMHO. when did u bury wannabe pkers cuz i dont remember you.. how long ago? on topic: i bet i make more money slaying/doing clues then all these gr8 money making methods summary: the wild is filled with wannabe pkers i guess and clues own
weasel
i think that the number of people who actually used to sit with the hellhounds were there becasue people had told them stories about how they sat there for two minutes got a clue, then ten minutes later finished it, and made millions, but sooner or later they all realise that that was either a lie or very much a one off chance... The decrease is, in my opinion, cause by the lack of false rumors that are spread with the realease of more or less every single new update, and seeing as all the rumors about making millions from TT's fast have disapeared and the stories of hours wasted has grown has deterred people. -= weasel =- rsname: moosewalker ~ top 10000 player :Dfull qp - always willing to chat add me... Kashi
If you look back in the very, very old section of the Treasure Trail rewards thread, you'll find me posting some stuff. I even have old sigs saying "Kashi~Treasure Hunter!". I was a Treasure Trail -nut-. I love them. Alot. EDIT: Aww ... I guess they've remade that thread. My accomplishments, they are gone!! WHY?! 12pure34
Yes, that is right. I love treasure trails. I have done a lot of level 1 clues especially. And the occasional lvl 3 clue. The level 3 clues, I just get when I am killing dragons or so. But those level 1 clues, I do for fun. I train my thieving, and every once or so, I take my Ham clothes from the bank and thieve till I get a clue (which is pretty fast). Then it costs me a few minutes, depending if I get Uri's emotes, to complete it. The best till now has been a Sara page worth a nice 100k. I like treasure trails. Yes, you get lots of junk Yes, it is mostly wasting your time Yes, it can be quite fun Yes, you are thrilled, as you do expect crap, but there can always be something nice. Harrington
The main thing that has discouraged me from treasure hunting is all the junk that I need to keep in my bank now. I also know that the odds of me getting something extremely valuable are very low. Given that I just killed 21.5k dust devils without a single d chain drop, I really don't fancy my chances with treasure trails either.
laurens
well i can say im a treasure hunter did alot of lvl 3 clues (best was zamorak platebody and black cavelier btw) And i'd like to thieve alot, i still do 82 thieving atm oh , and treasure trails are very fun, cuz of the riddles, the dangers in the wildy and others but its not rewarding alot my last 20 lvl 3 clues, best clue of them was with 2 zamorak pages in it rest was rune junk worth 50-100k..thats just plain rubbish , because in the time u did the clues, u coulda have made alot more money doing runecraft or something else anyway, im a treasure hunter, in thieving and treasure trails, and i like it ! :-$ :-s :boohoo: :boohoo:    Apparently none of you can multiply correctly....300cats x 100deaths= 3,000deaths 3,000deaths=900,000gp^^WTF?^^
