both

it has definitely been affecting my health for the worse though

ever since i got to college..i have been getting an average of 4-5 hours of sleep every night...and i definitely see its effects.

i am tired all day, i get sick a lot more often than normal, get head aches, i am cranky, and overall it has been for the worse

sleep definitely should be valued more than it is in our societies...i am amazed at how much it affects a person's well being...but i am living proof

Those are some odd side-effects..

I've been getting around 2-4hrs of sleep a night since about half-way through 1999, and that's never happened to me. Health is fine, I get sick less than once a year, head aches are non-existant, being tired only comes from over-sleeping.

All in all, I'd say my sleep patterns do me more good than harm (that being I sleep only when I need to). It's almost like power-naping, but more stretched.

hmmm..maybe it varies from person to person. Personally i LOVE sleep, but simply do not have time for it. i have too much going on that i am up until all hours of the night doing work, and during the day i am busy with classes, organizations, group meetings for projects, etc. Since Monday of this week i have gone to bed between 2 and 4...and woken up at 7:15. i am not tired during the day, but if i lay down it hits me very hard. also i get tired earlier.

about the sickness, well, before school i was never sick. i get here, and my second month i contract Mono (no idea how i got it..coulda been a water fountain or sharing a drink or something). I had that for 6 weeks, got better, and then like a week ago when i REALLY started getting less sleep i developed a cough and as i type this my head is throbbing. it might be that my body is much more vulnerable with the lack of rest to repair parts of the body/strengthen the immune system.

the body is sooo complex...wow. i dunno though, i guess it just varies from person to person, but i am welcoming spring break with open arms so i can get the much needed rest i need

A bit of both really.

Due to work i get up at 6:30am (5am real time but +1.5 hours of day light saving). But I am always very tired and sleepy for the first 20 minutes or so in the mornings. By 7 I am quite good and ready for the day. I always try to sleep in a bit more. On the weekends when I sleep in until around 8:30am I wake up and still feel bad for the next 2-3 hours. So the extra sleep does not help much.

I get quite sleepy around 9pm at night but around 10pm I get a second boost of energy which allows me to quite easily stay up to around mid-night. But I generally force myself into bed before 11pm.

When I was at university I typically stayed up to 2-3am in the morning quite easily and would wake up at around 10am when classes allow.

I do love night time but nothing bets the early morning. Everything is so fresh and peaceful.

Well, it depends what I'm doing that day. If its something exciting, like a vacation or something cool like that, I'm up and functioning early. I do like staying up late though. But the usual day finds me smacking my alarm clock into submission, slooooowly climbing out of bed, and not fully waking up until at least 3rd period.

A bit of both - I like staying up late and sleeping in but sometimes I like to get up early as well. When I sleep past 10:00AM I feel like I've wasted a part of my day.

Late owl. I normally get insomnia 'til about 12 pm or later, and the push my sleeping time to the limit in the morning.

same here.. i sometimes dont get to sleep til one and even when i hear my alarm clock, i snooze it and sleep another 30 -35 minutes more and im almost late to school

Never take life too seriously, nobody gets out alive.

I'm a late owl. I would probably become completely nocturnal if it weren't for my parents waking me up no later than 12pm every morning, forcing me to go to bed at a 'descent' hour :XD: I remember one time when neither of my parents were home until late afternoon, so they weren't here to wake me up at 12, as usual. So I ended up waking up between 3 and 4 pm

I'm a true early bird. I get up every day at 6:30 am with no difficulty and if I see PM on the clock when I get up, my day is ruined. I'm terrible in staying up late, I only do that for parties.

I do the same thing.

Late Owl, Really, I'm home schooled, and we have some pepole over one day do do a progect, they got here at 11:00 and i was asleep (Duhhhh...) and they all came into my room, and then attacked me... I have meen friends don't I? I usualy don't go to bed intill at least 11:00. I would go to bed sooner if I could. I just don't get tired intill 11 - 12:00...

Vampire bat.

In my days at university, I woke up when it got dark and went to bed at the crack of dawn. Sadly, that's not possible anymore, since I'm a working girl these days. Still, I usually only start at 10 am... and every time when I have holidays I tend to relapse in my old patterns.
