True, this topic you speak of has certainly not been done 100 times before. But I think the author is just ranting about an experience he had and asking everyone to discuss it so it doesn't have to go in the rant forum.

I was doing a level 3 clue the other day that took me into the wilderness.

 

 

 

I pull the lever in ardougne and some guy in ahrims robes and torags helm starts freezing me.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I start eating so I don't die, I'll only lose a holy symbol and some white boots but I'll also lose my clue I've been working on for half an hour. So I keep eating and start praying against magic, he pulls out a whip and I'm near death and decide to try the lever again hoping the freezing effect has worn off. I tele back with 4hp, and the guy that tried to pk me tele's back to.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I try to be polite because I'm going into the wilderness by choice, and I can accept I might get pk'ed.

Then he proceeds to call me a noob nerd and various other 'insults' (I actually think being called a nerd is a compliment) and just acts like an idiot.

meh, my account's a female mod, you should see some of the responses that gets... some that are quite unintelligible, and i've had one person make a complete sentence with at least four curses.

I'm sorry, but I need to ask if you've even logged on Runescape currently. The rudeness currently has no limit. People are very rude even if you're polite.

Most of the rudeness is rs seems to revolve around fishing. it's always coming out of the fishing guild or something of the sort. I think the fish in Runescapre are evil. Maybe they could turn this into a quest :-s .

I'm combat level 95 (not that that necessarilly reflects the length of time I have played). I still remember whilst doing the imp catcher quest, the other player who out of the blue gave me a set of steel armour.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

RS, reflects RL in many ways, there are nice and there are nasty people.

 

 

 

A few ways I have found to deal with people in game that are rude or unpleasant as follows:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.Don't talk to them, block em if you want, eventually someone will ask "why are you letting PLAYERX do that?"...the response of "OH...blocked em about 5 minutes ago, are they still being annoying?" or similar generally cheers everyone *else* up a little.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.If they do something reportable...IMHO...never let em know. I get far greater satisfaction (and find that generally it is less flammable in game), knowing that they will get theirs (so to speak)...eventually.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3.explain to others how I do use the term Newb, I don't like the term Noob, however i like to think fof those who do use the term Noob....as "Noobsters" again, I find that this gives everyone else in the area a chuckle, isn't too demeaning to anyone, and lightens the feelings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4.if it all gets too much...head off to port Phanstasmys or Lunar isle for some blissful peace

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is a game, WE have the "block" facility in game, don't be afraid to use it, and above all...enjoy the Game.

Yes catherby is filled with autoers, And some very rude people. If fact most skilling places that are popular have rude people in them.

 

 

 

Thats why i like to go to secluded spots that are not very popular. Even if i have to go out of my way a little.

 

 

 

One time i was chopping yews. I just log in and go to this tree. A lvl 97 is there chopping already. He had a rune axe i had dragon. I walk up and say "hey". He responds with not a hello, but a dragon axes are just the saem as rune your waisting your money. I replied with No sorry to tell you this but they are a little better. He started getting all worked up about it calling me and nerd and a noob. He kept saying " NO Noob i asked jagex! so shut up!" I was politely explaining to him that Jagex said that it was better when they released the dragon axe and explaining how the dragon axe got better for the longer you cut a tree and that this is proven by me and others. But he just went on and on....

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oh well you just gotta ignore people that have nothing better to do then call people names and argue.

I have very good experiences with people in the fish guild: they are actually some of the nicest around compared to the people that walk around in other areas. I guess it heavily depends on what world you play in.

Over my course of Runescape gameplay (about 2 years now), I have encountered a few people who don't know the definition of "polite".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My most recent encounter would be with a player who out of the blue asked if he could buy some of my Monkfish for a ridiculously low price (something around 75 or so), and when I declined him, without flaming him, he proceeded to calling my mother names. Now, I had read about tricks for people who used this insult tactic, so using Dalcyte's strategy, I lied and said, "My mother is dead." Thinking now that anyone in the right mind would just shut up after this, he didn't something very rude and unexpected. He said, "Good. She deserves to be dead."; he then logged out. I was practically speechless after hearing this. I didn't know if he was joking or not (fairly hard to tell the difference here), but it sounded pretty genuine to me.

But to react to general rudeness. True as it is, I find it sad that a person with a heart and mind is capable of saying such a thing. People are less polite and it sickens me. I've had it in other games, which was the main reason I quitted those games. Will not happen to me in this game, mainly because those people cannot touch me. I can avoid the wilderness, I can turn of chat. So I can play my own game :)

I'm cmb 91 and get both ends of the stick sometimes, higher levels try and neglect and can be abusive cause you don't meet thier standards (PC especially) and much lower levels give you abuse for being a 'high levelled n00b'. I wouldn't say I'm very high levelled tbh but anyone red to them I guess can be a target.

i usually slay in world 2, so the training spots are on the deserted side and most noobs are too lazy/impatient to get on it anyway

I'm not really in to helping people with things, but every now and again I do. I never help the realy low levels. I feel they need to be able to to figure out where things are and such, because if you help a really low level, they become to depends on the help from the higher levels, causing them to think that all higher level are here to help them. I will help like 40 and p though, because those are the ones that generally genuinely need the help. I'll give out free stuff occasionally, but not to those that ask. I've made full iron went to f2p world and jsut handed it to some low level. I'm not cruel, I just feel that some of the lower levels need to learn thing by themselves when they genuinely don't need the help. I was on my pure whos level 27, when a level 25 came up and said "wanna fight?" I politely said it would be unfair to you as I'm a pure and my range is 39. He said "Oh thanks for warning me." That's the kind of thing I do.

There actually is the peopleskill instructor who kindly reminds newbies and macroers that the people behind the characters are real, excluding macroers. and encourage you to behave nicely.

Oh wow, one of the verbally abusive low levels has found their way into our forum. Wellcome and remember that we don't like your kind here. Well, at least i don't. Neopetters such as yourself have ruined the community that use to be great and force most of us keep our public and trade at friends when entering a bank that has more than 3 people in it. Personally i'm sick and tired of the kids thinking they are cool by calling people names in a game. It's my personal mission to embarrass them as much as i can and hear outsiders say: owned. With proper language and patience kids like jjdevine are so easy to confuse and make them say stupid (can anything else come out of their mouths?).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Just yesterday i went to al k bank in w70 and didn't say anything other than thanks to a friend who kindly smelted me some steel and mith and of which payed with a d hally. There comes lvl 36 who just reached whopping 43 crafting asking for hides and when i don't reply he starts commenting about stuff we said later on. Well, of course this lvl 36's brother had an account of higher level than i am and lvl 36 said he has his pass and kindly even told me the username.
