Errdoth
I go to a private, Catholic school, and they have wayyyyyy too many rules, one especially was the sock rule, where you are REQUIRED to where crew length socks. So, my friend, lets call im patrick, because thats his name afterall, and I started making Pick-It Signs and a petition for its removal. We have two slogans, one "We're Through with Crew!" and the other submitted by a tif'er, "What's that on your show, oh, nevermind, it's just Crew!", and we have pickit signs and whatnot, and I wrote a letter to accompany it, but, does anyone have any experience in the field of demonstrations at school? I also need some critique on my letter, remember, it's to an 80 year old principal, who is a nun too! I, Sean {Hidden}, on behalf of the undersigned portion of the student body, hereby request, from the administration of St. Bonaventure School, abolition to the rule designating the length of our socks*. While uniformity should be valued, it should not, in the opinions of the undersigned, be valued more so than our unique, God-given individuality, which is hindered by said rule. As school rules begin to grow out of hand, the community of students feels the need to protest and demonstrate, to regain back our precious freedoms. Should this petition be disregarded, let it be known that the student community will continue to protest and demonstrate to the full extent of their right, for our individuality, our freedom, is something worth a struggle. Sincerely, Sean {Hidden} and the Undersigned Student Body * (See Handbook, Student Dress Code, Boy̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Uniform Sect. 11, and Girl̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Uniform Sect. 13) It is a catholic school, so God must be in there! hehe Back to my question, does anyone have any advice for a seventh grader holding a rally at school? rocketman089
That's so cute, fighting the man for shorter socks. Last year in april when there were all the immigration rallies, something like 360 kids in our school joined. They all rallied in the commons area, marched out and went down town. Our buses bussed them back lol. Sort of relevant i guess. Gamertag: King Arizona
lawrencekill
You better get A LOT of people to protest with you. Strength in numbers is all you can hope for. If your school really is strict, prepared to get suspended or expelled for your "protesting". No matter how peaceful it is.

There's no rule against voicing your opicnions, along with the 500 or so people you've rounded up in the first day. If they decide to shut me up, then so be it, but so greater will the incentive to rid the school of corruption be, I doubt it would settle things. (They can't expell 500+ kids anyway, or would they...) Last.fm Signature Overlays
TokyoPolice
Seventh grader ... well unfortunately at that age, not many people will take you seriously and the staff will probably just discipline you without even listening to your cause. Which is unfortunate, but especially at a private school, I could see that happening. Strength in numbers is one of the few advantages you have, and I'd say do everything in your power to get as many people as possible (even teachers) to go along with you. Good luck. Astralinre
Socks are a precious freedom, and choosing their length is a God-given right? You're like Martin Luther King, except fighting for Sock Rights instead of Human Rights. Oh, and he was fighting for something that actually mattered. Celt23
To put it bluntly, I don't think you have much of a chance unless you have alot of people. This sounds like the kind of school that won't give up uniforms.
Flametrooper
Try giving free cookies to everyone who comes. :P Be prepared for harsh discipline, but keep at it and don't let the punishments faze you. Take them with head held high and a sort of cocky, humorous, confident attitude - not rebellious or defiant, just act like this is having no effect on you at all (or like you're enjoying the punishment, even) - teachers cannot stand this. It drives them right up the wall.
magekillr
haha this reminds me of the Supreme Court Case where the one kid wore a bandanna and the school said to take it off but he refused as it was for protest..

Astralinre
so you would like it if your parents made you wear socks that went up to your theighs (just saying) everyday for your entire student life? seriously why wont they let you wear normal socks? at the very least they should at least let you wear tube socks! We're not talking about some ridiculously outlandish requirement. It's one or two inches different in sock length. What's the big deal? And no matter what, his language and reasoning are entirely over-the-top. Sock length is by no means a precious freedom or God-given right. If he wants to protest, he should at least be honest. This is how his letter should read: "I, Sean {Hidden}, on behalf of the undersigned portion of the student body, hereby request, from the administration of St. Bonaventure School, abolition to the rule designating the length of our socks. We don't like your stinking rule. We want to wear our socks the way we want to. We're shallow enough to think that our socks are an important expression of our individuality. Change the rule or we'll be angry." "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. So... they'll just suspend/expel you about probably about the 10 top kids in the organization for misbehaving or something. Cut of the head and the body will die and all that. I really doubt they will expel you though, unless you really piss them off somehow.
Rebdragon
You have to wear a uniform for catholic school right? So whats the point? I go to a Catholic School (*curses*), and though we do have to wear a uniform, the only thing it requires is any kind of khaki/cargo pants, and a collared shirt. We can wear sweatshirts over the collared shirt, don't have to wear a belt, can wear any shoes and socks we want (well, no sandals), any undershirt, etc. Logos are fine on anything too. I believe he just got the bad end of Catholic schools, so even though it's a Catholic school he still should be able to argue his case :-w . Everyone- remember, the only reason this seems like a stupid cause is because it's a stupid rule :-w . Defender2516
I don't know why a school would WANT school uniforms. God made life to be variety. Zonorhc
I went to a school with a snappy uniform. I was proud to wear it. Of course, we didn't have anything ridiculous like mandatory crew-length socks... ____
And so you can identify people who shouldn't be in the school grounds a lot quicker than usual (safety). There's a lot of valid reason for uniforms - most of which out weight reasons NOT to have them. Be thankfull you don't have them, Defender2516, given the amount of justification a school would have to suddenly implement them.

Mercifull
School uniforms work really well and do a great job of reducing bullying against people who cannot afford the latest trendy clothes or new trainers. Besides where will this campaigning against uniforms end, how long before all the catholic schoolgirls don't have to wear pleated skirts!!! lol Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape.
