personally, i believe mccain made a foolish choice in an attempt to garnish some of hillary's voters. palin is even more inexperienced than obama.

what sealed the deal for me was finding out that she is completely anti-abortion, even in the case of rape/incest.

It wasn't to gain Hillary Voters. It was to show that the Republican party isn't old men still. Democrats can have their first black president. Republicans can have the first woman vice president. We're combating them, yes, but not to gain Hillary votes.

The anti-abortion thing is odd though :?.

Well, judging by your previous posts, you wouldn't vote for McCain period. Dunno why you'd need a deal-sealer.

She's inexperienced too, but Obama doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of surviving if he brings it up. She's shown to have relatively good domestic policies, though, and she's more of a charismatic person. Evens McCain out a bit.

i would have voted for mccain simply because as a working student, it would be in my favor if he lowered taxes like bush did.

She has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. What, Barry has been a senator for 150 days? Did you expect him to pick anyone that wasn't Pro-Life? Any such pick would've sent the RNC into an uproar.

The only thing she has been in charge of is Alaska.... Yeah, certainly a lot of experience there :? .

Yeah I don't think McCain could have chosen a worse running mate. What is even worse is that, if he wins, there is a decent chance (with how old he is) that she could very well become a president. It's just a scary thought.

Now THAT would be the cause of the 2012 apocalypse

It was a big shock to all of us Alaskans. Calls were going around, offices stopped work and turned on the TV.

It was kind of cool for me, seeing as I've met her and done an alternative energy presentation to her with a few other kids. (happened to be a couple days before the birth of her most recent son, Trig.) We all got signed pictures of her and us, so who knows how much those might be worth if she becomes VP. I'll tell you though, she is a very likable person, and would politically being a lot to Alaska through the attention she's getting us now and what might come if she becomes VP.

I personally wouldn't vote for her, as my beliefs aren't in line with hers.

One more thing- as of now, both our Governor and Lieutenant Governor are running for a position other that their current. According to my Dad, if they are both elected, either our Surgeon General or the Senate president get the spot. I'd rather have to conduct a special election though. Maybe we could finally get a Democrat back in control...

And Obama has been in charge of what? And I wouldn't count on Mccain croaking any time soon, the same issue came up with Bob Dole and hes still alive and kicking.

I personally love the pick, its a lot of fun to watch this all go down. Even though I'm still probably going to vote Libertarian, its quite entertaining, like a sports game.

There's not a decent chance. He's in very good health. And it's not as scary as Obama.

I just feel bad for Joe Lieberman. Unless McCain wins and makes him secretary of state he's screwed.

Just because it's a large landmass doesn't mean anything dude. In terms of population it's one of the smallest.

It may be in terms of area but it's pretty small when you look at it in terms of population and if you exclude the energy industry it has a very small economy. Running a mainly rural state with a low population density is no preparation for national governance.

Of course McCain chose her to pick up Hilary supporters.

The GOP is counting on keeping the focus on her strong family & faith based history, not that fact that her only major political experience was being a Governor of the 4th least populated state... hell she didn't even major in Poli-Sci.

They want people to think "oh she has a nice story and is like me, I should vote for her", not "hey, she has practically no experience".

Imo, it's scary to think that someone who's never been outside of North America could be 1 step away from running the country.

As a Democrat, I'm looking forward to see Biden call her out on all this, but he has to be careful or he'll be portrayed as condescending and mean to women.

Obama still has double the national experience of Palin, and his overall experience clearly surpasses hers. While she was winning a highschool basketball championship, Obama was graduating from Columbia University where he majored in political science (with a specialization in international relations.) - ty wikipedia.

Double the national experience? He was US senator for 3 years and for about half of that he spent campaigning.

She has more experience where it counts, sitting behind the desk making decisions. Senatorial experience is not as great as governatorial experience. As for Alaska, that is a good place to be governor. You make decisions on the environment, trade, international commerce, and energy planning every day. Which is what our nation needs right now.

Obama's national experience should barely count, anyways, because he has missed the majority of votes during his tenure and has spent more time campaigning rather than being a Senator.

Anyways, politics aside this is just a way to gripe and bicker and name-call each others party affiliations for the heck of it, thinly veiled as real discussion.

I don't quite know your age, but I reckon you're younger than Pez, Robert. You don't pay taxes (or won't be), your voice deserves to not be heard in this part of the election.

He does have a point though, continuing 2 costly wars and lowering taxes doesn't seem economically sound.

McCain doesn't want to continue the war in Iraq, though. He has a few plans laid out for slow, prepared returns of our troops instead of a demand for them to come home immediately. If everything blows to [cabbage], the rest of the world would just throw another fit. Iraq is, and probably was even in the beginning, a lose-lose.

We need more troops in Afghanistan, though. I know some guys who've fought there; say it's terrible. Most of the fighting is sniping and scrabbles across mountains. At least they don't (or at least don't much) use child suicide bombers or anything.

I don't know where you pulled that number from, but when she was elected, she had 48% of the votes while the runner-up got 41% of the votes. Somehow, I doubt that that 48% went up to 80...

Your numbers are dead-on accurate (she indeed got elected by republicans with a 48% vote share compared to 41% from democrats), but approval rate is different from that. It means how high her post-election approval by the population is. And Palin is actually quite popular in Alaska even amongst democrats.

For example Bush's approval rating has been dragging in the muds for a long time, his approval rating is now near the 25% mark (which means 75% of americans generally no longer consider him fit to represent the country, so that figure must also contain 1/4th of republicans who voted for him in the first place).

If people could impeach a president he would be long gone, no other president is having so low approval rates. It's different from election vote share
