Found something in the "Hidden Updates" forum topic under the section for March 2008...

"There is a character called "Dark Squall" who can be seen randomly appearing in the chaos tunnels."

Shows how long they've been working on the Grandmaster Quest, While Guthix Sleeps!

How about that!

They said a while ago that it's had more development time than the entirety of Recipe for Disaster, which is over a year.

So yes, it has been planned for a long time.

And remember that BTS in late 2007 saying that something big was coming in 2008? Eh, While Guthix Sleeps :)

That was Summoning.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Thats from Runescape vs Rwt from way back in 2007

Theres a fine line between not listening and not caring,

I like to think I walk this line every day.

Pinning blame on Jagex is like trying to put pants on an old man.

You both know he needs them, but he'll just keep dancing around, avoiding them at all costs.

If I remember right, there was a wallpaper that came out in the summer of 2007 of that skeleton guy and Arrav by his side. (I haven't done the quest though, so I don't know if that's related).

[insert birds flying in a circle here]

Yes, that sig was annoying.

that was defender of varrock i think :?

but WGS has been in development since RFD, according to Jagex

You only live twice. Once when you are born and once when you look death in the face.

Do not fear Death. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But, if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently and then guides us into infinity...

How about the path of glouphrie prophecy? How long ago was that released?

They might actually have been thinking about this quest when they made temple of ikov, allthought most probably not entirely like it is now.

it depends on the length of the quests, but they have to factor in storyline, locations, program new npcs/responses, items?

and then test them

maybe 2-3 months? :?

Remember when trying to talk to him just said "You already completed Temple of Ikov". In fact, he behaved like that until While Guthix Sleeps was released. Also, the Guardians of Armadyl wore Saradomin symbols... I was expecting them to update that a while ago, but they put it off until the big quest.

They dropped loads of hint. For example the Oracle was heard saying: The snake of Guthix guards more than she knows. Which was of course a reference to the fact that the Stone of Jas was hidden in those very caves.

Then, in the Chaosudoku from the chaos elemental in 2007 there was a hidden clue stating: "Mahjarrat gathers an army. He shall slay many masters." Which of course came true

And then the Hazelmere prophecy which I can't remember word by word, but it said roughly that some men following the path of the slayer and some following the path of the warrior will gather in the north to fight the evil.

"There are only two strategies in war. Move forward or change. The victor is the first to realise that when he cannot move forward he must change."

I believe that wallpaper was released several years ago. And it came through with the Defender of Varrock quest a couple months ago.

Hazelmere's prophecy went something like this:

8 will go, 2 will return, one on the path of the Slayer, the other of the Warrior. And you, you will be dressed amongst the enemy, but you will not be one of them.

Thanks ::' But are you sure the part about the player being disguised was in there?

How does it take them a year to make a quest when people can make an entire game in a year?

They don't have all their people working on the quest 24/7 for a year you know.... remember how they said they had worked on RSHD for more than a year aswell?

Planning, testing, coding, major bug fixing, repeat until complete. You must never have worked on a project much bigger than a few lines of code, have you...?

I wonder how many times they had to "play the quest" at work to make sure it was right. I bet they have little time trials to see whos the fastest haha.

I don't even know how to code. But people can do all of that within a year, and Javascript isn't even as complicated as other stuff out there, I don't think. For example, I wonder how long it took them to make Godswords. In my mind, you would just draw the picture, give it an animation and implement it however they do it, and make certain things happen using "triggers" and "conditions".

They also needed to draw out a storyline, create good character models, add all those changes at the end of the quest, compose music, etc.

Creativity takes time too
