sumfera1, I'm going to state this once and only once, because I may forget to check this thread for some reason... (I probably will, but oh well, need to be covered anyway.) You WILL NOT ever get a virus from playing RuneScape through the RS Java Applet. However, if your parents do not have a house-wide anti-advert policy, one or more of those adverts above the F2P game applet may have infected your machine, along with all the other lack in safety practices used while browsing other sites, as well as while IM/IRC/etc.-ing during an internet session. In short, if you're not practicing proper security and safety while on the internet, anything and everything you do, give or take a few things, can potentially be very dangerous. My doomsaying and warnings end here. Any further posts will be in regard to cleaning up that old PC, as well as protecting both the old and new PCs against any further potential threats. ~Mr. D. V. prairiepalmeri, you can probably at least try to re-inflate the Green D'Hide Market back to pre-G.E. levels at the moment, but other than that, you won't be able to do much about it. :| ~Mr. Devnull

AGS and SGS: Will Jagex intervene?
D. V. Devnull replied to TheAncient's topic in General Discussion
I can tell you exactly what is killing the trading of those... the current trade restrictions. Players want to decide the prices, not have it locked up so tight that the market can't shift of its' own accord. This will probably not get fixed any time soon, if ever. Players want a lot for those swords, and the market price may be too low right now, just like for an overload of other things. ~Mr. Devnull (p.s.: I hate being late to post. -.- ...) -
Kinda sad, actually. I'd love to have the drops. :P ~Mr. Devnull

  But some people like their avatar... More seriously, The avatar section probably isnt big enough for some of the pictures people will want to upload. LOL!!! :XD: ... Avatars and Photos should be hosted off-site anyway. :P Get yaselves a PhotoBucket account. 8-) ~Mr. Devnull

[hide=Long keg of Quotes, click to open ...] 60 minutes? Whoa there. Dying is supposed to be dangerous... After the anti-RWT update, something reminiscent of 'Diablo 2' (corpse/grave appear next to you on next login) would be best, especially to encourage players to "Try again and not become permanently discouraged", because when discouragement happens, a player can lose sight of the fact that they are only playing a game, and therefore get upset and leave from it. RuneScape is meant to be fun, but losing your stuff just steals from the experience. Being given it back for a little (less than 1 minute) clicking distance, instead of having to walk all the way back to where you died, and not having the grave disappearance times, would lead to more players remaining online and possibly the chance of more P2P gained from F2P. Why? Simply due to the fact that instead of upset being caused, people get the feeling like they want to try more often, and that Jagex does want them to try, instead of failure having an oversize penalty, which would repel players more often than not. Okay, I'm getting a little rant-ish here, so I'm gonna leave this open for more discussion. ~Mr. Devnull That would make the game way too easy! I could go to the hobgoblin mine in full rune and not care! Nothing would be dangerous anymore... Everything would be too easy to obtain and prices would drop... [/hide] Market's already ruined, so why not slap it back into shape? : (I always figured crashing it hard enough might repair it anyway.) ... And might I remind you, even dangerous games SHOULD BE FUN. If they aren't fun enough, then why play? Wouldn't be any point. -.- ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

I'm aware of that but installing a 13 year old operating system and getting it online was a bit of fun anyway. Hey, all you nuts, I'm kinda glad to be proved wrong this time, especially since I generated a bit of extra discussion and learned something in the process. So thanks for all the extra info. I've had this crazy assumption lately that people who have been coding stuff have been intentionally making it so it won't work with earlier software. It is good to see some that aren't holding to this creed. 8-) BTW, flaming others? I just ain't any of your styles, seriously. Plus it makes you look kinda bad. :P One other thing... Pure_MageUK, could you put that oversize image in hide tags? It is really stretching the thread sideways. :( ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

I agree. It kind of ruins the point of having a RuneScape News Forum, doesn't it? Bingo, Killerred005. That's why I went a little wacko in the above past 3 posts before yours, to convey that thought. :D ~Mr. Devnull

I can tell you from their picture that they are running at least Windows XP, if it ain't a Mac or Linux. Otherwise, it wouldn't boot just simply due to lack of mobo drivers and ability to handle things like New Java Versions and/or ActiveX Objects like what would be needed to read through to the hardware layers. :( Also, it doesn't really matter what they are using the computer for. Today's OS'es are RAM HOGS. The more RAM, the better. :P ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

Well it is also the Users fault if they go and get a keylogger on their machine. So in a sense you are saying they shouldn't be complaining either? Not at Jagex, anyway. If they want to complain anyway to anyone, they need to first be willing to admit their fault, which is in their failure to have a proper security policy. Second off, if they have any kind of proper security policy, then incoming adverts in web pages are blocked anyway, keeping the system clear of most exploits. This automatically leaves Jagex not at fault, being as any malicious code is blocked. 8-) ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

the reverants--- what do they drop? and another thought
D. V. Devnull replied to omirzan's topic in General Discussion
I doubt that there's anything better to get from the Revenants in F2P. I personally think that Jagex should tweak the drops of a few of the Revenants so they're able to drop a few items that are worth something in F2P. Things like Rune Scimitars/Rune Full helmets etc... Maybe Jagex could make an extra F2P quest that would allow better drops? :-s Further, check out the following for better drop ideas for these Revenant monsters, ones that reflect a player's real earnings for killing Revenant monsters... :-k [*:2a8cwq1l]Full Rune Armor Set Boxes and/or Green D'hide Armor Set Boxes (Would require a quest completion and would have to be ultra-rare.) [*:2a8cwq1l]Rune PlateBody and/or Green D'Hide Body (Definite high rarity, can't have it be less. Would be more common than a full set, however.) [*:2a8cwq1l]Rune PlateLegs/PlateSkirt/KiteShield and/or Green D'hide Chaps/Vambraces (Also very rare, but less rare than Body Sections.) [*:2a8cwq1l]Packages of Addy/Mithril Arrows (50/75/100/200) and/or Packages of Death/Chaos Runes (100/200/300/400) (What ranger or mage wouldn't seek a drop of 100 of these all at once?) [*:2a8cwq1l]Giant packages of skilling materials (Self-explanatory, and should be giant quantities, at least 100 or more.) I know the numbers are a bit bloated, but it was to give the idea of how much of a reward that players really have earned if they're going to keep fueling their skill work by going to the trouble of killing these monsters repeatedly. 8-) At this point, I'm going to leave it for people to discuss and expand on. : ~Mr. D. V. Devnull (BTW, due to legal issues, I implicitly give permission for Jagex to use these specific ideas.) -
Actually, conversions to '.gif' should be avoided on in-game screenshots. It would ruin the image otherwise. The '.jpg' file format is honestly the most optimal, if not '.png', for full-size images that you need max-detail on, in part because of the fact that these images are already like photos in some aspect, especially due to their rendering color depth (usually 16-bit, I think)... :-k Also, there is a free image editing suite that is highly recommended and should be able to do such a thing, known as GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) you can download and try to use if you're feeling adventurous. Their main site is http://www.gimp.org/ (Link is safe, I don't lie.) and the program is open-source and free. Enjoy taking a shot in the dark with it if you decide to, let me know what ya think. : ... I'm probably gonna have to move to it when my family and I move to linux. Hopefully, I'll like it too. :P Hope all this info helps. :) ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

I'll see what I can do then. I've been working on a "range-primary alternate" recently that I'd love to have wearing a nice Green D'Hide Body, so this would make a perfect 'on the way' deal. Probably could check the weight too. I'll post it once I have it. I hope someone doesn't beat me to it. :P ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

That's what I was getting at with my idea changes. : ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

the reverants--- what do they drop? and another thought
D. V. Devnull replied to omirzan's topic in General Discussion
All that I have ever gotten in F2P is '187 gp'. :( Anyone else gotten better stuff in F2P? :-s ~Mr. D. V. Devnull -
Okay, here's how I see it...: :-s [*:2dlt5dui] Allow the current firemaking style to be maintained, and add a "Burn-X" option that would lay the whole set for you. [*:2dlt5dui] Give exp, but only like 1/5th of what the logs are if you're freshly building a fire on the ground. [*:2dlt5dui] In regard to #2, allow people to add to the fire to gain exp other than the original lighter. This would benefit everyone, and is something I would love in-game. [*:2dlt5dui] Yes, it could be done much like building a snowman, give or take that instead of something building up, it would collect some kind of icons signifying the extra logs, or the fire could have a different shade of the color it is to signify how much fuel is left. (Would help with the special firelighters... : ...) 123rockstar, if you'll implement those notes as changes to your idea, then I will support. :D (Do not add me as a supporter otherwise.) ~Mr. D. V. Generally speaking, most people overlook stickies, especially if there is a lot of them. General Discussion has some of the most stickies of all forums. Since most people overlook stickies, that's why it would get 'hidden.' Or most people just wouldn't see it. Why do you think that people post screenshots in individual threads so often? Because they don't look at the stickies ;) Well I haven't seen any such reports (or personally dealt with them, is a better way to say it), so I wouldn't know the reason for not doing so. But I see no problem with moving the General Discussion threads to the RuneScape News forum if they're created first. Alright... I shall send in reports (and/or message you directly) the next time I see it. : ~Mr. Devnull

BlimpyboyJr, I support. You've got reasonable ideas here that I can't see any openings for RWT'ers on. Let's show Jagex what mature players think. 8-) ~Mr. D. V. Devnull (p.s.: Gonna siggy this as soon as I can. I think I see an opening for it.)

Why would a stickied thread, made by a normal user, but shifted by a Mod or Admin, get hidden? :-s And BTW, why are Tip.It's Mods and Admins failing to pick up on the existence of a user-made thread if it occurs before the existence of a 'Mod/Admin'-made thread in regard to the same topic? (I've reported at least 3 of such before due to this kind of thing, in hopes that the thread might be moved to 'RS News', or that the discussion might be somehow centralized, so users of these forums wouldn't have to track 2 threads at once.) It could be transferred to the 'RS News' Area and stickied instead of a second topic being made. Plus it would save the Mods and Admins soooooo much time! :| ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

RSS... Yummmmm... Bari, where I've lit letters in blue is where I had to spell check to get the post's meaning. :P ... Now to reply... WHOA... Hacked?!?!? ... Figures, develop a new version, hackers force you to leave the old one. -.- ... Well, on the bright side, at least a half-dozen wanted/needed things will be waiting for the users. :) ~Mr. Devnull

PhpBB has had that forever. PhpBB2 stores it in a cookie, PhpBB3 stores it in the DB. :? Wait... if phpBB2 does, and my cookies for "tip.it" (which is causing my cookies for these forums to be accepted anyway) are globally set to "Allow", not "Allow for Session", then why is this PC not holding it? Do I need to set site-specific additional cookie settings in addition to the basic one for "tip.it"? :-s And you're telling me that phpBB3 will track it so that if I'm not done reading, and I have to log out for some reason, I don't lose my markers? :-s ... If that's the case, I'm going to be hungering for the upgrade. (Been wishing for it for too long. :-k ...) ~D. V. Devnull

This is going to get a little off-topic, but oh well.............. Since Jagex is trying to defeat RWT'ers, what would you propose then? :-s ~Mr. Devnull
