2007 - Old School RuneScape... You Vote! - [It's Here!]
That was certainly an incredible amount of effort you put in there. This is a game, something you do for recreation; it's not an occupation. Why would you continue to invest into something you know would give you less enjoyment than something else requiring the same amount of effort?

A dying skill?
I recall Jagex saying there would be a content update to Construction and also a graphical update some time this year, or at least that's the plan. Fundamentally, in a game where you want soul split and extremes/overloads and good armour/weapons (etc.), construction comes way down the list of priorities for gold spending.

How many casts should I bring to Fight Caves?
I'm guessing you mean in the live game, not the '07 relaunch. You can't just mage everything, really: Mage weak (to water spells): the bats, the spliters, the meleers (Tz-Kih, Tz-Kek, Yt-MejKot) Ranged weak (to arrows): the magers (Ket-Zek) Melee weak (to slash): the rangers (Tok-Xil) No overall weakness: TzTok-Jad. If you're on task, I'd wear FSH and mage armour, with tops and legs only for ranged and melee when required (every other armour piece has no effect on accuracy). For weapons, I'd take CS > ABS > SoL = PPS for mage, Crystal bow for ranged, CMaul > BGS for melee. I'd also therefore do Jad on mage. Safespot is no longer at "Italy rock" due to a graphic update. Load up the new Fight Arena map; the bottom left corner, next to the rock wall that juts out at a right angle just north to the corner... it covers four of the five possible Jad spawns. The spawn not covered is right next to you, just south of that wall (in the centre of the twirl pattern on the floor in-game--can't see that on the map) so be careful at the start of the final wave. Inventory-wise: Ammo, ranged+melee weapon, second bow/check first is fully charged if using crystal, mage pots/ovls, food for healing, a shield for rejuv (if you really feel it's needed post-Rejuv nerf), prayer flasks, one pot of prayer renewal at least for the final wave (not necessary, but not having to sip as often is one less hassle to worry about). EDIT: Damage in EoC is capped by, amongst other things, the tier of the weapon being used. A water staff is very low tier, therefore your damage will be very low. Staff of Light and Polypore Staff are relatively cheap options if you have neither a Chaotic Staff or an Armadyl Battlestaff.

We probably overstate the number of gold farmer bots because they're so visible and understate the number of players botting for personal advancement for the opposite reason. In fairness, Jagex have previously stated that the vast majority of bots are currently believed to be gold farmers, by the company's anti-bot team.

There are bits about RS2007 I miss too but... I also miss staying up every Christmas for Santa Claus. Out of curiosity, what "thing" are you talking about specifically?

Referring to the epitome of the EoC community as "self righteous" and full of "hubris" is an ad hominem attack and has no part in a sensible discussion. By all means voice your objections to EoC, but stop making sweeping generalizations in an attempt to make you seem more credible. It doesn't. You're part of the same Tip.It community as I am. Please start treating other TIFers as such.

Then I guess any discussion between us would become fruitless. It really is hopeless trying to respond when you just spew out a bunch of exaggerations and assumptions. It's ironic that he doesn't see how he epitomises a fair portion of the pro-EOC community perfectly. Self righteousness and hubris galore. :?... Can you please be a bit more civil? There's really no need at all for this ad hominem stuff. Most people on this board are experienced enough to see straight past it. I could quite easily level that accusation at some of pro-PK 07scapers. It wouldn't advance the discussion very far, though. How about we both admit that every community has its fair share of bad apples? Whatever version of RuneScape they're playing is completely irrelevant to that, surely.

Need EoC/Combat Tips (Armor, dual wielding, etc.)
Has the FSH been confirmed as working now? My post was under the assumption it didn't post-EoC and this issue was on Jagex's "to do" list. The 16.67% boost of an FSH outclasses the 10% boost of a void helm, of course.

Hours played per week and Adventurer's Log days?
1) These days: two hours a day if I'm lucky, maybe eight to ten hours a week overall. 2) 88 days.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I don't get touchy-feely when it's freezing cold either, to be honest.

OK. Let's agree to disagree. I think history shows that relaunches like RS07 enjoy successful honeymoon periods followed by rapid decline as the nostalgia starts to wear off, until it eventually reaches its end point, serving a very small, niche portion of the gaming community. We'll see in three months. :)

There's speculation and then there's plain denial of stark reality. The live game has more players than the 2007 game. It's indisputable.

He can do no worse than your attempts at statistical verification.

Really? http://www.misplaced.../2007online.php EocScape isn't enjoying the same honeymoon effect as 07Scape, however it still has twice as many players.

I'd probably gamble with Void on most tasks, tbh. Prayer potions are worth next to nothing these days, and soul split easily compensates for the lower armour rating being exchanged for more damage. Even without soul split, protection prayers + healing BoB will cover most problems. Void doesn't degrade so you save yourself a few bob. Rapier isn't the great melee weapon any more. Abilities with a chaotic maul outclasses everything south of the drygore weapons. Even if I absolutely had to use a stab weapon, I'd take the Zammy spear over a rapier now. Fire cape has a higher crit bonus over a Legends Cape (I think), but a lower Armor Rating. Armor Rating isn't that big of a deal in slayer; they're almost all too weak to deal dangerous amounts of damage anyway.

Well, all the stops they've had to pull out, just to get this thing to 480K puts the original claim of 750K somewhere in the territory of 'totally ludicrous and delusional'. I'm not so fussed about the poll because we all know of Jagex's intention to bump it up to the 500K mark anyway. I'll be more interested in RS07 playing figures come two or three months time.

20-Nov-2012 - Evolution of Combat: Now Live!
Don't be alarmed by the lifepoints. Most of your punchbag monsters (the task monsters assigned in 150+ quantities, that sort of stuff) are a lot easier to kill now.

Looking back, the 90+ Pest Control clans were probably the first example of higher RuneScape players systematically trying to prevent lower players from joining in their activities, because back then there was only one boat and having too many low levels watering down the quality of the team meant you were almost guaranteed to lose. The insane XP rates PC offered at the time, and the lack of portal shields, meant higher levels were losing out massively on potential rewards if they continued to allow lower levels to stay with them. That was where player protectionism really started, from my perspective. Monster hunting clans came after, as did Dungeoneering clans, but both were based around the same principle as PC clans; "if you're not good enough for us, you're holding us back, so [bleep] off". (DG clans less so because DG speed is more about good gating than combat performance)
