  1. [/hide] Big congrats. You did the right thing, instead of going on rants and venting about an unfixable problem, you worked through and recovered. That's amazing, I would be royally pissed if I lost that much + defender + fire cape   I was browsing tif like I usually do while I kill bork after the cutscene, and apparently the mage hit me high or something so when I switched back I was in fally. I wasn't really that annoyed, just surprised it actually happened after 200+ borks. Then I was like 'Meh, waste of time. Guess I'll go get it back :| '. That really is advisable, I now have everything back (because I still had my addy defender <3:) and all it has cost me are that bones that should have gotten me 84-85 pray (well, slightly more but that was just deducted from my cash pile) :P Yeah, I had almost exactly the same thing happen to me. Suddenly found out I was at 21 HP and forgot to withdraw my tele. Was in bandos and all my leet gear from monster hunting, woulda lost around 40m. Luckily I made it out by killing him and home teleing (he was red barred, I didn't have time to run to the portal, I was praying that the mage didn't decide to cast a spell in the last few secondss).
  2. But thusfar it has been quite obvious that I am not "bad" at slayer - the same methods achieve very similar rates; we are using standardized equipments and inventories, and from timings ranging from reaction time tests to abyss run timing to XP\kill speed comparison at everything from GWD to monster hunting, I know that I am highly efficient (I recently came in less then a second slower then Zarfot's all time best rate for an abyss run - and he's been doing it dozens of times longer then I have), and I've only seen one other person in game who can come close to matching me. But without any facts, it's very hard to do any comparison. We need data on it to include this in our XP rates. This was from dozens of hours of testing the largest difference I've ever experienced. Generally it's within 5%. I'm simply saying that 10 minutes is just too short to get numbers within a few percentage points, especially at a "complex" monster like Specters. You couldn't hunt Kree for 5 minutes and establish a kill per hour rate accurate to within a percent or two. I was operating under the impression that you had actually read my previous posts dealing with numbers. Have you or haven't you? That could clear things up significantly. And banking time were also hammered out earlier in the thread. Honesty, you seem to have forgotten everything we discussed earlier. Ehh? I don't see a typo in the first sentance, though I could have made it clearer by adding quotes: You can drop the "stuipd" argument (i.e. the argument that I'm an idiot). My responses have been on target and made complete sense in the context of your post. I'm not sure why your continuing to harp on that point instead of responding to the actual post. If you can't understand my posts, it is MY fault. If I can't understand your posts, it is YOUR fault. We're both reasonably (or so I believe) intelligent human beings, and should be quite capable of grasping any point laid out in a reasonbly well communicated manner. Basically, all I'm saying is don't say "Your post made no sense, so its your fault. Oh, and its your fault you didn't think my post made any sense". Notice the key word "if". It's another example of why you should be listing your methods. In response to your question: I go through 30-40 in a task, at a cost of approx. 11k. And that is referring to your continued accusation of my "misreading" of your typo, not the argument itself. Why are you continually trying to swap factual arguments for personal arguments? Define "reasonably close" and "some". Probability deals with numbers, not generic terms meaning "from 2 to infinity".
  3. I missed the point where he ran the numbers for cannon at specters, perhaps you could point it out? Or are you just making it up to avoid the fact that you either refuse to or cannot do so yourself? Where are YOUR rates to differ? You can believe 2 + 2 = 5 and be as optimistic as you want about it, but unless you have actual numerical proof of it, your mistaking your opinions for facts =D> Unfortunately, time isn't the only perspective. I typed up a very long and detailed response to that pont, and it boiled down to these basic paramaters working against the cannon that morningrise is trying to pretend don't exist: #1: Experience lost due to cannon's damage being worth less (2 range XP from a cannon, worth far less then melee XP vs. 4 melee XP & 1.33 HP XP from melee) #2: Combat rounds lost due to far away kills from cannons extended range (Specific to tasks, but if a cannon kills a monster 10 squares away from the next nearest one, your going to lose at least 2 whip hits running over to pick up a good drop) #3: Combat rounds lost due to faster kills (Specific to tasks, worse on low HP monsters); basically, if a monster dies in 2 whip hits + various cannon hits, your going to lose more time running to the next monster and picking up the drops. This sometimes occurs with melee, but it's a time that does not go down with faster kills and works against cannons speed. #4: Speeds related to tasks that a cannon does not affect (i.e. banking, getting a new task, running to the current one) #5: Costs directly related to a cannon (Cannonballs) #6: Costs related to cannon usage (Prayer potions due to multi combat) #7: Spawn time issues (Harder at kalphites; at crowded times, it's very difficult to get a full world, and even then you spend a significant amount of time waiting for respawns - all the while receiving much less XP per task and spending more money thanks to the cannon). There were quite a few other factors, but those were the main ones that I calculated to end up with a final figure that represented the earnings necessary to make the method equally efficient to melee; if it was over 400k, it was less efficient, and if it was under it was more efficient. Quite simple, and no amount of ignorance or opinions can change that.
  4. Oh, dur. TIF autolinks killed them. Here's the fixed version with URL tags: http://www.mechscapeworld.com/images/research/JagexFinancialOverview.gif http://www.mechscapeworld.com/images/research/JagexStaff.jpg Proof that *someone* didn't even bother looking at my sources, though =D> I know, but it was a totally separate debate. I said "opening up the forums gives us fewer updates". You said "I don't like updates" :?
  5. What? You do know they already banned discussion of gf\bfs long ago, and are handing out heavy punishments for such? As it happens I do not remember that. Is this on RSOF? I really don't bother with RSOF much at all so I wouldn't know the slightest thing about their rules. It was in an update on the main page a very long time ago. I really don't feel like hunting for it, so take my word for it. If you want to be stubborn and insist I find it, I will, but it IS there. I don't say something without having proof to back it up -.- Yay. Another thread we agreed on. I was primed and ready for a long debate when I saw you had responded
  6. Big congrats. You did the right thing, instead of going on rants and venting about an unfixable problem, you worked through and recovered. That's amazing, I would be royally pissed if I lost that much + defender + fire cape
  7. I'm assuming that none of you read the earlier portion of this thread, or you would haev seen that for most task (including specters), cannon was proved to be inefficient and made slayer look WORSE. Using the rates for a cannon instead of meleeing would make slayer less efficient in comparison and armored zombies better. Now, I could have made the argument that because most people cannon I should use those numbers to make slayer look worse, but I believe that only the most efficient methods should be used. So for those telling me to use a cannon, that's EXACTLY why I don't simply post my end rates, results, and methods here: had you gone back to read the beginning of the thread, you would have seen that using a cannon would make slayer look worse -.- @Ydraisle: Busy in RL atm, I'll respond to your post later this afternoon.
  8. Where do the rules say that? I might have overlooked them, but all I saw is the section 1.1 where it said rules like offensive language applied to TIF too #-o
  9. It's not as much as a problem as you make it to be. In my opinion, it's due to the loss of the mature regualrs that used to keep discussions on topic and accurate. People like Muggi, Salim, Kent, Bubsa, and far more of the oldies have left for good. There's only a few people I can think of off the top of my head that I remember from the 'old times', Makoto (doesn't post much) and Zirro (More off topic then rs-related posts), Me, and some of the mods are about all I can think of right now.
  10. And you lost sense of context. Sorry, but these are real people your talking to, not an animated computer avatar. Try walking up to a female co-worker or student that you've never before seen in your life, and ask them loudly if they want to make babies. See what happens. What? You do know they already banned discussion of gf\bfs long ago, and are handing out heavy punishments for such?
  11. So what happens if I'm slaying in proslyte + verac skirt, and I pick to keep my whip, defender, and fury because I don't want to get another defender. I then bank my proslete and withdraw bandos tassets and chestplate to continue slaying on another monster. I'm not paying much attention, and I accidentally die; it sucks that I lost my whip, but it's only 1.5m, right? Oh wait.. I just lost 24m! What if I pick to save my fury, karils top, and verac helm at Armadyl, then get myself a nice LSed hilt. I accidentally die when I'm trying to duo with a team and my teammate teles without telling me. Oh well, 1m from karils lost isn't that bad, considering I just got a hilt, right? Oh wait, make that 65m... I could go on about DKS etc. etc., but the bottom line is that it's far too easy to forget (who remembers to change their death items every time they bank or get a drop?) and would create far more problems. You can't fix what aint broken. Sure, sometimes it gyps you and you lose something you don't want to, but it's the best of all possible solutions. That being said, I'm glad you finally see my point -.-
  12. But the point is that your in the minority. Many of us enjoy updates, and updates > no updates. I don't like having fewer game updates because my money is distributed to freeloaders; yeah, from their perspective its great, but I'm paying to get updates not give someone else updates. Moderator edit: What's the point in quoting it and replying, when you know it will be removed? Quote removed.
  13. Know of something called green d'hide? Or for that matter, a prayer called "protect from magic"? Come on. There are a lot of mages if FoG because of the free runes, not because magic is overpowered there. Either you're a noob or they're experts at FoG. Or it could be something about magic hitting 16s from a distance while melee runs around trying to hit 10s =D>
  14. Strongly disagree. Your looking at those rates prior to slayer mask\prayer, using proven methods for adjusting, and I find info on tasks like suqahs and iron dragons to be very similar to my rates. Exactly, but I haven't seen any hard data on how frequent each tasks are - and it's very hard to collect in a short timeframe; even leveling to 99, your only going to get a few dozen of each tasks (like Zarfot). I'm telling you it's not that; all equipment and inventories remain the same, and with auto-reteliate the main factor (speed of attacking) is completely removed. If anything, a regular task should yield considerably more variance as it incorporates human error. Notice the key word in "about". My rates are are not giving in a specific post, as the arguments about them spread over many pages. You should know, it was you who I was arguing with. You can drop the stuipd argument. I've proven that I'm not an idiot, and using that as a cover up isn't an effective argument, or even an argument at all. I can sit here and post "your an idiot because you misread my post" all day long, and follow up any misunderstandings of mine with "your an idiot because you posted wrong", but the reverse argument can be used in either. Pick one and stick with it, either it's the posters or the readers fault. Don't try and say it's "always" my fault irregardless of if its my post or my interpretation. I certainly wasn't aware you used protect from magic at specters; I find karils to be enough magic defence that a unicorn keeps me healed, and the savings in prayer potions makes up for the very minor boost a summon can provide. It certainly wasn't. I read "no", and I thought about responding simply by asking if it was a typo, but it was quite obvious that it no, as now wasn't even grammatically correct - the whole sentance didn't make sense if it was now instead of no. I was trying to avoid being nitpicky, but I might as well post if it you insist upon harping on it. It most certainly is. If I'm differing 10% in a test where I don't even do anything besides climb up and down a ladder every 3 minutes, it's quite obvious that combat results are skewed due to the randomness of the hit calculation system.
  15. Only the ones that were accessed during the breech. It's common on library\school\friends computers, as if your home computer is infected you've got a lot more problems. As such, it will generally only affect one of your accounts.
  16. I agree with that; however, there might be a way to make personal choice work -- I have no idea what it might be, but it is something to think about. If someone can find it, great -- if not, we have the best system we can come up with right now. I think we can agree on this much: high alch value is the best system we currently know of. If there's a way to make personal choice work without being so unwieldy, then I can't think of who wouldn't like it, making it a better system, but if there isn't a way, then what we have is still a very good system. Yes, that's what it boils down to. But I highly doubt there IS a better way to work personal choice; there's really not a whole lot of options for it.
  17. u r has samrtz How about a Godcape at Bandos, you know, 1 more invertory for a brew? I almost hate to ask, but... What the heck are you talking about? If it's items, your bandos tassets for solo cover the item needed quite handily, and for team bandos (by far the majority), you need inventory space far more then you need extra potions.

Thank you fenir, you brought up a number of argument points I hadn't desired. Starting over is a great example; I have fun by doing new things, not re-doing what I've already accomplished. Nah, this discussion is still quite a ways from a flame war, mostly because the discusees (new word please?) all seem to be slightly older and more mature then the the ones that usually set of flame wars. Doesn't mean we're immune, though - we've had a few blowouts, but they've all been recovered from. There's a fine, fine line between "heated argument" and "flame war" ;)
  19. Except that as you dump them the price will fall just as fast as it rose when you bought them for max, and you'll end up with zero profit. People tend to overlook this fact.
  20. Then you are not using a hally correctly. I have NEVER gotten to 4 knockdowns with a hally, 3 is uncommon, 2 is the most common, and I've gotten quite a few with a SINGLE knockdown. You just have to be fast with switching.
  21. Oh, so you just mean that actually violating the rules (using language, macroing) in things unrelated to RS are bannable? It clears that up, but I wasn't aware that people could brag about glitches without receiving anything other then a mild slap of the hand and post removal. The way I read it was quite simple and easy to follow: Ban for bragging about\posting screenhots\continuing after a mod has removed posted and posted to stop several times, and I was confused as to why it wasn't happening. I guess TIF has no rules for bragging about bug abusing to gain massive amounts of wealth as well as posting screenshots and detailing methods required. IMO it's a perm ban worthy offense (just like it is on RS), but I guess the mods don't see it that way. Report the posts instead of whining about it. we're not mind readers there's no way we can tell what posts you are talking about. I'm not talking about specific posts, I'm talking about rules in general. I linked to a few posts to show an example, but I'm not referring to specific things. I'm just saying I don't like that (according to you) there is nothing in the rules about penalties for bragging about, posting screenshots, and teaching other TIF users how to break RS rules to gain an unfair advantage. Yes, a moderator (at his discretion) can give a slap on the hand in the forum of a few day ban, post removal, or warning, but there's nothing serious, unlike the RS consequences. In my opinion, it's very similar to the argument over RuneHQ RWT advertisements a year or two ago. Should fansites ensure that rules of RS are strongly enforced, or shouuld they leave it alone and let users post bug abuses as they wish? As it stands, some TIF mods remove bug abuse posts, but even those who have posted many times are never given any lasting punishment. It's the mods stance, I'm just disagreeing with it and disliking the fact that there is no official rule about it.
  22. Ah yes, "making babies" is totally non-sexual. How could it possible be construed as such? I mean, I would NEVER get in trouble if I walked up to a random person in the street and said "hey, wanna make babies?" Use your head, people. ALL sex-related talk is outlawed on RS, ranging from "be my GF" to various statement not appropriate for this forum. As and for the rule, don't even try and pretend you don't know what rule it was. Not only do they tell you directly on the account page (hell, it's even in your screenshot... notice the words "offense type"), but the title of "offensive language" sort of gives it away. -.- Honestly people, use your brains. Walking up to someone you don't know in real life and asking "wanna make babies" is something that will land you in a considerable amount of trouble. Do it in an online game with much stricter rules on language and sexuality then your average street corner, and your ASKING for a mute.
  23. Of course it is. And if he was 99 range and 25 attack and strength, he would find melee grossly underpowered at his combat level. You have to go off the combat level of the skills used, not the total combat level. That's why I fight in the 100 range when testing range tanking.
  24. I think having the players be able to have the option to choose what items are saved on death is the best possible system. There can be an option in the Items Lost on Death screen where you rank your items based on how valuable you conceive them to be. That would be the Utopian model, yes. But I imagine there would be many obstacles to that. There are obstacles -- look at the discussion that compfreak and I had on the last page. The problem is that every time your inventory/equipment changes, there has to be some way to determine what is kept. There are multiple obstacles to overcome and compfreak and I only mentioned a couple of them. Perfect system, yes, but not the best, because there are too many obstacles that must be overcome for it to be viable. If you can overcome all those obstacles, however, you might have a better system. But to the best of my knowledge, these obstacles have no solution that is superior to the current system. The simple fact is that your inventory changes far too often to deal with a set item being the most valuble - with hundreds of 'valuable' items that can change precedence every few minutes, having to remember to manually set your items just doesn't work. If I change outfits for a slayer task, I know I'm going to forget to set my bandos chest and tassets to most valuable some of the time, resulting in me losing them over the other, far cheaper items. The greatly increased risk of high ticket items being lost just doesn't balance against the slightly reduced risk of low ticket items (that would probably be lost even under the new system) being lost. Basically, it boils down to this: There are only three ways to determine the value of an item in RS: High alch, Market price on GE, and Personal Choice. Market price on GE is out, there are too many nontradables like fire cape and damaged barrows items. That leaves us with high alch and personal choice. Personal choice is the only alternative; and it has thus far been proven to be too unwieldy and cumbers-um to deal with a constantly changing inventory. @Zero: Thank you for keeping flaming and insults out of your post. I'm quite impressed by how long this thread has gone without a stuipd, flaming, whiny, immature, or unnecessarily insulting posts (with the possible exception of my response to Hemen, I was somewhat frustrated by lack of reading). We're going on 3 pages now. Good work, TIF. :)
