You can kill more per hour, therefore you get more addy bars. You reduce the amount you kill by doing bones to peaches, and eating of course. Depends on your stats and at your level, you're better off using prayer potions for now

Iron/Steel plates are the fastest way. You also lose the most money by choosing to smith plates. As a rough estimate: I went from 55-73 smithing and lost around 5-8M.
