  1. Looks like we're both right. :) http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/exp ... 07,00.html As it says there, normal desktop solutions are one drive to one port. But in a commercial environment (server) you may be able to use cables like the one you posted. With I assume special hardware/software. Much more information here: http://www.sata-io.org/portmultiplier.asp If you like reading. :P Oh I have seen normal desktop motherboard with these, but very few on them. The motherboard was also like $300. I selected that because I was too lazy to look through the motherboards. Anyways, thats why sata hard drives do have master and slave pins for the odd occurrence you would use them with a raid card or an expensive motherboard. But SATA drives don't have master and slave selectors. >.< Read the damn links. It's all to do with the cables. 1 side plugs into the port and a multitude of cables on the other end can be connected to several drives. Not master/slave. Hell if it was like that you could only have two. -.- And honestly a desktop with this functionality? Prove it. I proved my point. You owe it to me to prove yours.
  2. Aye, I'd suggest getting a flashcart too. I have an R4 myself and it's great. For homebrew and watching movies of course. Comicbook viewer on it and I've watched some movies too. Shame they take a while to convert. :( Just Pokemon Diamond will probably keep her busy for quite a bit. I've been playing my version for a few months now. (NTSC version, before you ask).

  4. http://www.jason-preston.com/index.php/ ... ows-vista/ ^ Read that ^ It has to do with the volume shadowing that Vista does. It keeps all your data safe in case of a major software breakdown. Virus or whatever. Only problem is, it doesn't know when to stop. Unless you tell it to.
  5. Er... I don't think thats correct. I have a cable that is split to allow 2 SATA connections on 1 SATA port and just from browsing on newegg I know some motherboards support up to 8 HDD's with 4 ports. Anyway... now that the drives working theres one thing I've noticed. It continually spins (like its seeking) and then slows down again. Kind of like a car reving up and then letting back off the gas over and over. I think it is actually doing this because it has to compensate for the slower IDE drives - I assumed it would just spin slower but I guess thats not the case. All well, as long as it's not causing any problems and its not bad for the drive I'm happy. If you don't mind, can you please link the motherboards that you seen. Not to meniton a picture or link of the cables you use. As I'm pretty damn sure you can only have 1 SATA device per port. Correct me if I'm wrong. Good to hear that the computer's working the way it should, makes me kinda nervous what you're saying about the drive. Just make sure you keep S.M.A.R.T on in the BIOS and watch the drive, listen out for any clicking. If you have a faulty drive, you're not gonna be happy. : Also, if it doesn't cause any serious problems, you could try changing the jumper on the drive to switch it to SATA150 mode. Also make sure the drive has its own power. It might be sharing with too many devices? :-k
  6. SATA hardrives don't have jumpers for master/slave. You wanna know why? Because you can only plug ONE SATA HDD into ONE SATA port. Unlike IDE where you can have TWO IDE HDD'S in ONE IDE port. Sorry for the caps, just trying to make it stand out a bit more. Try moving the drives about a bit more. IDE0 Master - ROM1 IDE0 Slave - ROM2 IDE1 Master - 40GB IDE1 Slave - 80GB SATA0 - 500GB SATA1 - X or IDE0 Master - ROM1 IDE0 Slave - ROM2 IDE1 Master - 40GB IDE1 Slave - 840GB SATA0 - X SATA1 - 500GB or IDE0 Master - 40GB IDE0 Slave - ROM1 IDE1 Master - 80GB IDE1 Slave - ROM2 SATA0 - 500GB SATA1 - X or IDE0 Master - ROM1 IDE0 Slave - 40GB IDE1 Master - ROM2 IDE1 Slave - 80GB SATA0 - X SATA1 - 500GB Etc... For every different configuration, make sure you still have your 40GB set as the drive to boot from. Assuming you have a decent motherboard/BIOS this should be no problem. The only thing that I can think may be happening is, because of your motherboards age, it's not fully compatible with SATA. So when the IDE0 port is full it's taking over the SATA port(s). When trying to find out what's wrong with unusual things like this, the best way is always just trial and error. So play around a bit. :) Edit: Oh yeah, the jumper on the back of the SATA drive is most likely a speed selector. New SATA2 drives have them to lower the speed to 150Mb/s (SATA1) for compatibilty.

    My New Car

    <3 206's. Although I'd prefer a GTi. :P

    My New Car

    I'd dry hump that Lancer... Still, prefer the look of the Evo IX. And before anyone complains about my choice in cars. I'm European and I drive this pile of [cabbage]. Vauxhall Calibra 16V Ecotec = 136BHP brand new... It's about 12 - 13 years old. So if I'm lucky it puts out about 90BHP because I've damaged the engine. ^-^;
  9. The good news is, the server works fine. The bad news is, I can't help you because I'm going to bed. :D Edit: You wouldn't believe the stuff you get when you search on Google. http://forum.swiftirc.net/viewtopic.php ... 676bd6efec First, look at that link and read/understand/do it. Second, if it doesn't work. Try stuff like disabling firewalls and anti-virus scanners to see if it helps any.
  10. Um... You're all right. You're just making it way too awkward. http://whatsmyip.org/ gives you your external IP address. Ie. The modem (or router) that's connected straight to the internet. Typing in ipconfig /all gives your internal IP address(es). The crap you'd want for setting up a network. More than likely the first poster will want his external IP for whatever reason. The reason websites give you the external address, is because it's the first thing they come to. I can't imagine it being a good idea if a website could just sorta poke past your modem and start looking around inside your network.
  11. I'm surprised this pile of crap hasn't been locked yet... Guys, stop feeding the troll. Oh yeah. Obligatory short opinionated sentence. WoW > RunEscape.
  12. Yeah, if you can buy either one, definately go for the intel one. Like someone else said, the graphics card is much better and so is the processor. Not to mention it comes with Vista Ultimate instead of Home Premium. Ultimate is the one with all the bells and whistles.
  13. Not to be argumentative, as I'm sure you're quite knowledgable when it comes to computers but... http://www.technospot.net/blogs/downloa ... y-project/ A few "teams" have been working on reverse engineering Direct X 10 to run on Windows XP. So although it's not an official MS release, you will be able to use and run DX10 compatible games in XP. I reckon they'll have a full release by the time DX10 games are mainstream. Or MS will give up and release a version of their own. Edit: So overall, XP is the best gaming platform for the PC. Or if you can set it up correctly 2000 is a contender too. Main reason being there's a lot less crap included in the OS from first install. A lot of benchmarkers use 2000 because of this. Just to squeeze out those last 10 points. But definately, stick with XP. It's more user friendly. :P
  14. Not much information to go on there... But I'm pretty sure the onboard graphics won't support the game. Onboard graphics are rarely useful for anything apart from general desktop use. I'd suggest getting a graphics card. Even a cheap one would do a game like that. For more information on what to get, either go to a local PC shop or ask in here, you should get about 40 people trying to help you.
  15. Recently bought a new account and have decided to go back to Alliance. On the same server as my Horde characters. :D Decided to try out a Druid this time, for 3 main reasons. I can still stealth into enemy cities (or hang about with my friends (rogues)). I can finally tank. Already have 960+hp and over 1000 armor at level 13. And I can heal. I like healing. ^_^' So, apart from the benefits of having access to two auction houses, what other benefits do you think I have being Horde & Alliance on the same PvP server? Alliance - Shattered Hand EU Burein - Level 13 Night Elf Druid Horde - Shattered Hand - EU Daeclonius - Level 64 Undead Rogue Kerenthia - Level 19 Blood Elf 'Twink' Priest Xarques - Level 10 Undead 'Twink' Rogue (Will be 19...) Daebanc - Level 1 Blood Elf Paladin (She's my bank character) Horde - Karazhan Daeclonius - Level 13 Undead Priest (Levelling at the same rate as a RL mate playing an Undead Warrior).
  16. I apologise. You were asking questions and I assumed because of your age that you didn't know as much as you did. But PLEASE get new pictures or at least remove the old ones. If you put up a guide that people read they're going to want to see what the components actually look like. Not what they used to look like.
  17. I have a feeling he didn't write that guide. Not because there's a couple of posts already on the board from him asking for help in choosing components. But because of the pictures. I mean come on... Look at the one for the memory. :? I don't even know what the first one is, and I've been playing with the insides of computers since early 286's were still running around. I'm sure there's EDO in that picture too. :wall: The motherboard picture isn't any good either. I'm sure that's a socket 7 motherboard or older. And it has onboard speed selectors. :-k And God forbid. An ISA slot! At least the Graphics cards are recent.
  18. If it's heavy enough you could use it as a doorstop. Paperweight... Anything that it doesn't really have to do any actual computing. But really. The only things it'd be useful for, would be as a portable hardware firewall or maybe a really slow word processor. Hell, wrap it up and keep it in a cupboard somewhere out of the way and see if you can sell it for a huge fortune in 50 - 75 years. :P
  19. Yeah, and the 1 month 'free' that comes with the account. Basically, buy the CD's and get a new account with none of your old characters on it. (Or you could sell the CD-Key to a friend so they can get started in WoW too.) Or download the game and use your existing account with all your characters. Assuming you still have a subscription.
  20. Yeah, my first 360 died 3 days before the warranty was up. So I got a replacement from the shop where I bought it... No more problems (so far...)
  21. Edit: Nevermind, was going to refer Azvi to a guild and it appears to have died.
  22. You mean, if the treadmill was also mobile and moving along the ground at the same ground speed as the plane? The plane would still lift off as it's moving forward with the plane, thus creating lift and making it take off. :) I'd draw another picture, but I'm going to bed now. I'll keep this topic in my head and maybe return to it tomorrow.
  23. I like the toy car idea. For an experiment... If anyone wants to try it. Take a toy car, something that the wheels move freely and put it on a moving belt, like a treadmill. Have some sort of external force, your hand would be ideal for this... To keep the car from moving when the treadmill is turned on. If I'm right, that should simulate no friction and no mass? Or simply the car going at the same "speed" as the treadmill. Bear with me... It's hurting my head too. Turn on the treadmill and watch the wheels start to move. Apply a small amount of force on the car, easily done with your hand. But it'd be better if you could add measurable force. The car should start moving forward. The reason you'd want measurable force is to eliminate you adding any extra force when you sense the speed of the treadmill increase. While you're doing this, get someone to turn up the speed of the treadmill. If the car continues to move forward then it can obviously create lift (if it had wings) if the car starts to move backwards or stays still, no lift can be created until you increase the force that is being exerted on the car. Now that I think about it, how is the treadmill moving? The plane sits stationary until the jet engines (external force) act and propel the plane forward. So that'd mean that the treadmill is off. The plane will start moving forward due to thrust. The treadmill will then measure the ground speed of the plane (Speed = Distance traveled divided by time?) and start moving in the opposite direction. To be easy on you all, say on a runway the planes wheels start moving at 10 rotations per minute. If they were on an opposite moving treadmill which is also pushing the wheels in the same direction using the ground speed of the plane, this would make the wheels turn at 20 rotations per minute. So to be quite honest, in your way of thinking technically the plane should be moving forward even faster. I think what everyone is trying to say when they think that the speed of the treadmill is making the plane stand still is that the treadmill is an equal force in the opposite direction, which I'm afraid it isn't. You know... I think I started rambling there. Here's a pretty picture to help. ^_^ In short, yes assuming there were no other factors involved such as someone else stated, the wheels giving out. The plane would be moving, it would create lift and it would take off.
