  1. Parents/Guardians, take note. If your kid asks for money for something on the internet that you don't know much about, do a bit of research. It's not beyond you.
  2. Hah, I'm reading that book right now, it's a fantastic read. It's best to pick, and keep ourselves concerned with, a single scale and then only think about objects appropriate to that scale. Otherwise you will end up with these misleading ideas that a human being is a massively complex structure too large to comprehend (if you look in terms of atoms and picometres), or an insignificant dot that doesn't matter (if you look in terms of galaxies and light years). Remember, there is no standard viewpoint, so we can get away with this. Human beings are only relevant on the right scale, so let's either keep them relevant or not think about them at all.
  3. In my opinion, this isn't needed. There's too many rules, too many restrictions, when we can get on perfectly fine with the normal PvP drops. The spirit of the 'old wildy' was in that there were very few rules, and what we have now is closer to that than what you're suggesting. However, if we put the whole 'Resurrect the Wilderness without RWT' mission statement aside, this might be good for what can only be described as a voluntary PvP random event. In that case, we can start ditching rules and still keep the straight drops.
  4. That's a clever solution, and the same principle could be applied to other serious pathogens, too. I'd like to see more developments in this direction. It's not the drug that's important, it's the concept. The probability of the virus benefiting from the mutations is tiny to the point of negligence, and you have to remember, it will still be mutating until it dies! By the way, I don't think it's right to allow diseases like this to spread because it's a 'population control'. It's the duty of society to allow ourselves to live longer and better. Population, for now, is not an issue. By the time it will be, we would have probably colonised the moon or something.
  5. Oh wow, Garfield Minus Garfield is amazing. I didn't know any good ones that haven't been said before, just Misfile, C&H, Perry Bible Fellowship, Calvin and Hobbes, XKCD, and now Garfield Minus Garfield.
  6. Bork aside, here's another problem with gravestones. They collapse straight away if you log out, what's the point of this? Is there some technical limit?
  7. You can look at it in two ways. Either they will compete with the TET, or they will co-operate with them. I hope it's the latter. :|
  8. :o That's awesome. Mod MMG, you might be what this game needs. Maintain your promises, and this game will benefit a lot. What I really appreciate is that someone from Jagex has actually apologised for screw-ups in development, especially those with the 'kid friendly' label, and speaks the truth about it.
  9. It's fine if you have a gf/bf who you also meet ingame. But having a gf/bf who you only met ingame is misguided and potentially dangerous. In terms of rules, asking to start a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship in RS should not be allowed. However, having one which is a continuation of a real life relationship is fine.

Uh, I think I'll just keep with my Chrome Omnibar, thanks. Compared to most things we do daily, the power saved using a black background on Google seems negligible.
  11. It'll stop as soon as it'll be a good buy. They are not going to crash too badly, so keep an eye on the price for the next few days if you are planning to buy a pair.
  12. But you're supposed to go "$%@*" when you die. The system is designed so you will lose your items unless someone co-operates with you or you can quickly return to your location of death. Unfortunately, using up a few prayer points and clicking a gravestone (which you can ignore afterwards) is not enough to count as co-operation in my books. They should invest in time, not easily renewed points. People who die frequently will of course be happy that the chance of losing their items is less likely, but it also means that the game is too safe and in fact less exciting than before. It's not about protecting pixels, it's about having fun!

You're right, modern medicine does repress natural selection. But the problem is that the thought of allowing millions to die for the sake of slightly improving the health next generation is intolerable when we could improve the health of this and the next generation by a much larger margin right now. Evolution isn't always about the search for the 'perfect being'. Natural selection itself has been influenced by humans (i.e. artificial selection) producing plants and animals that would no longer survive without our aid. That's hardly a move towards the benefit of the species. I don't think bravery would be such a negative genetic trait, if it is genetic, to merit something which would solely cause the death of enough individuals for natural selection to occur in a vast population. It's probably ideal to have a balance between bravery and cowardice. If you're very brave, then getting killed in a war/being trampled by a rampaging mammoth is more likely. If you're very cowardly, meeting a girl and having a family/ taking out said rampaging mammoth for food is less likely. Therefore, balance is best.
  14. Personally, I think that something needs to be done about this. The system beforehand was fairly harsh, but in my opinion a suitable 'punishment'. Death is supposed to be taken seriously if it's unintentional. Firstly, different gravestones should not provide longer timers than 2 minutes. Instead, they should have other benefits like a location arrow for the person who died, a location arrow and alert to people in your clan/friends list near the gravestone. Secondly, 'blessing' should be indefinitely long, requiring level 2 prayer with no prayer points lost or any other costs. But with one condition, the 'blesser' must be within a certain distance from the grave (say, the same as the radius of the assist system) when the recently deceased retrieves the items, if the grave is older than 2 minutes. Thirdly, there also needs to be a system of looting, where the looter gets a reward and the deceased loses some/all of his/her items, but I don't know how this could be done without RWT whilst still being effective. Maybe something similar to PvP drops? This is more demanding for the 'blesser', and will result in only those who are willing to spend time co-operating with another player by keeping hold and giving back the items, as it was before and how it should be. Call me conservative, but the game was much more interesting when death actually had it's sting.
  15. What kind did you want? It's better than a plain rectangle, and as long as it's easy to distinguish green from red, it's fine.
  16. This is a really good postbag, and I especially liked the TzTok-Jad vs. Chick- I mean Roosters calculation, it's a very good bit of maths. Not only that, we're getting a new hp bar! The poem was really good too.
  17. Heh, smart move for Jagex, then. They improved their customer relations image for almost nothing. Oh, and grats for being unbanned, as well. That's kinda important too. :)
  18. I'd probably slowly recover, I don't think I'm wealthy enough for me to quit the game over.
  19. We already knew that. F2p runs on advert money and more or less breaks even. It's always interesting to see these things, and I'm glad Jagex is still on the rise in terms of profits, even when they have done huge projects like RSHD and FunOrb, as well as a large increase in staff. Things are looking good.
  20. Again, it doesn't have to be all about travelling from A to B, RuneScape has ended up in a design where people have forgotten that the slightly damp area between two points on land actually exists on the map. People will realise how big distances actually are when they can't teleport to get somewhere, especially when there's storms, pirates, shipwrecks, islands and sea monsters located somewhere between A and B. At the moment, I'm still a serious skeptic about whether it will actually happen in the near future, but it is true that the concept could be made into a full skill. When you have to beat firemaking in terms of imagination and complexity, it's not that hard to make an acceptable plan for it. Jagex has demonstrated their ability with Java, they can make Randomly Generated Scenarios (SC), they can make customised structures (POHs), they're ridiculously creative (a lot of things). Jagex can do this effectively, but I don't think they will quite yet, there's Upgrade Year to deal with. I think that's a fairly convincing bit of evidence that Jagex has no intention to release something so new, so big and so different as the Sailing skill this year.
  21. They're Christians. Probably the reason. Typical religious crap. Don't make that ridiculous assumption, I'm not often offended, but that statement was very unfair. Religion is used way too often as a false reason for bad things. At OP: I'm confused, they're acting like they should have let the other team have free points. That's destroys the spirit of the game and would have humiliated the other team even more, they should have used a 'mercy' rule and finished it early instead. Oh, and I love how the article tries to get a sympathy vote because of 'learning differences'. That holds nothing with me, you shouldn't put people in that situation if they are going to be severely disadvantaged by that.

I have a suspicion it might be true, but since we can't precisely determine the future just from information of the past and present, it doesn't matter anyway. From our point of view, free will is how we experience the world, and until there's an opportunity to escape what might be a delusion, you have no choice but to go with the flow and assume it. Ponder this: What do you do if it's fated that we will never find out that fate exists?
  23. Good idea, although it shouldn't appear for f2p, since they don't have any specials. I'd also like it if the bars were divided up more, since it's obvious that the game can read at least half a bar.

It took me about 5K tokens to get the lot, the rune defender took about 3K. The rest were comparatively quick. It's just randomness, you should be grateful for the xp. It might be more worthwhile if you use sc armour and your normal weapons, you get through more food, but the occasional level makes up for it.
  25. People try to mock America because they hear so much about 'American values' and how America is so great, when it's really as flawed as a lot of other countries. The term 'American' has no social, monetary, or any other value whatsoever, things like freedom, justice and democracy certainly don't have a nationality, and America haven't exactly perfected any of those either. When a country makes big claims of world leadership and the like, they are going to get scrutinised, and criticised when they find something wrong with the system. :| To be fair, it's a good incentive for America to prove itself, though. You're just going to be criticised in every step of the way, live with it.
