Just realized I need to read a pile of material for my English test-out, do something else I can't remember at the moment, and finish my scale mail armor in less than 3 weeks. Awesome. And then I realized that for the third year in a row, I'm going to have to monkey with my schedule AGAIN. God I hate that. And I'm gonna see if I can see some auroras.
  2. Cool, looking forward to seeing what I can see... CBS says around 1, the Alaska map says 1:30 so maybe I can see it even though it's day (I doubt, but it gives me an excuse to stay up until 2 in the morning)

To be honest, I really don't, they're just tourists. I do [have higher expectations] that most European tourists would be able to speak English, for some reason I don't think the same thing about Middle Eastern ones. (However, if you reside here or want a job, you better be able to speak English. If you can't go live in Canada or Mexico or something.) Oddly, enough, I spent a week in a rather large tourist attraction and met a large British family, some Australian guys, a Japanese couple, a [probably German] couple, some (actually a lot of) vaguely Middle Eastern people, a giant Amish family, a bunch of Mennonites, plus all your random American tourists. It was pretty fun and interesting people watching. Just glad I wasn't downtown, where there were piles of drunken sailors. :P

  5. He suggested we get a reputation system, and it was obviously shot down, so I was going to use it as an 'this has been tried recently, see here' example thingy.

  7. Same, I actually searched for hex's post... Then I read it.

Pretty much, yeah. We've got some wacko extended family, but my parents are pretty cool. The only thing I wish they'd done better/earlier was make me go do stuff on my own (order food at fast-food restaurants, buy stuff at stores, answer the freaking phone) because I can drive and I'm not really comfortable with answering the phone... Considering everything that's happened to us (idiot builder who took a year too long to finish the house, grandma has a stroke, grandpa falls off a roof, I get diabetes, house floods, grandma has another stroke) I'm amazed my parents are still together. They've said (jokingly) that after my brother and I are gone they'll get divorced, but it's more likely they split the house, and my dad lives in the basement (pool table) and my mom lives upstairs (Wii). Yeah we're pretty funny. My dad got pretty much a full ride to U of M and screwed it up bad, then had to go back to college while supporting a wife and two kids. He did it and has a master's in computer engineering. His home life as a kid wasn't great, dad smoked (and thusly died of cancer, I never met him), mom couldn't cook, and they had some 6-7 people living in a small family home for some time (my now-uncle's home life was worse, so he lived with them and rented, plus a family friend did too, plus 3 kids, parents). This is the grandma I'm not particularly fond of... My mom has a degree in telecom management but started staying home when I was born. She's a teacher's aide now, so she doesn't have to work when we don't have school, which is cool. (When I think about this, I realize I'm pretty proud of my parents for doing what they've done for me and my brother.) Her parents were/are awesome (even though grandma had TWO strokes just because she didn't take her blood pressure meds <_< ), they saved up for their kids to be able to go to college, and expected them to work hard. Plus her mom could cook.

While not particularly extreme, I am a fan of ice hockey, rock climbing, and kayaking. Definitely try BASE jumping (generally not really legal though) or fake (or real) skydiving.
  11. I found Alg2/Trig to be really easy. Pre-Calc I got my first B in though... Somehow I got an A on the exam, he must have curved it A LOT. I guess another goal would be to not die with zero hour jazz band, then AP Calc, then AP Bio in the morning and lots of engineering (and a little German) in the afternoon.

:P So did I, only my parents wouldn't download the game. I already gave them all the random crap they wanted though, because I was already a Lego Club member... I'd pay for it if it were $5 a month and someone gifted me the $40 software. RS isn't worth $5 a month but LEGO probably would be. Hoping that happens when a bunch of people decide it's not worth it for $90 a year.

I'm making fake scale mail out of paperboard and an old t-shirt, with a goal of finishing it prior to me going to the ren fest (Aug 21ish). I need 1,000 scales and cut out maybe 150 today. I tried to work on a drawing for Starwolf-ftw (can't remember his TIF atm) but was not particularly into it, so I stopped.

He probably lives there. I myself would like to know more about the history of southern California, but There's too little records it seems. One day I plan to go to one of these historical houses musems they have around; that'll probably have something. She does (no biggie), and I recently spent a week at one of the more historical sites in the area and decided it's more than worth my time to learn (more) about it.
  15. Short term goals: Finish fake scale mail armor (next month or so) Save up for a bass guitar ($300 or so? next year or so) Long term: Don't randomly die for some stupid reason Go to college and graduate I'm not particularly awesome, nor goal-oriented.

Is it bad then that I read the entire thing and just thought it was kind of dumb? I mean it was a good book and all, but not particularly earth-shattering in how it exposes the human psyche. Haven't actually read books since that, I did read the latest issue of Popular Science and Diabetes Forecast.

Medieval Europe to the Renaissance. And I've been to a ren fest, once, going again this year, in garb! Also I have recently become interested in the history of the settlement of the Great Lakes area, particularly the history of Mackinac Island and how it figured in the American Revolution and wars after that.
  19. I did, but in my book, the Zune falls under the same jurisdiction as iPods... (evil because of Microsoft... ) Even though I'll probably get one eventually.
  20. I've always wanted reincarnation while retaining my memories and personality. So that'd be my first choice. I think it'd be interesting to watch the universe from beyond and see what really does happen as time goes on.

I made a messenger-style bag out of plastic bags, by ironing them, and now I have a headache, even though I did it in a well-ventilated area. The bag is quite exciting, although I suggest saving a lot of one particular bag (Target bags are best) and making it entirely out of that, mine is a mishmash which is sort of interesting but also lame. Plus it doesn't have a strap. I'm thinking of making one from duct tape, but if I sewed it on, it'd gunk up the needle on the machine or require lots of effort to do by hand. I also drove by myself for the very first time today. I had to take my brother to a Boy Scout thing, and drove home by myself. It was not particularly eventful, besides realizing I did not bring my phone and had no food.
  23. Both SanDisk video players have SD card slots, and those come in up to 32GB (maybe 64? dunno if those are out yet), so that's as close as you can get without buying a (dumb) iPod or an (overpriced) Zune.
