  1. Finally, I had reached 80 range and done 60 slayer tasks. The only skill I had not lvl 60 was my construction at lvl 58. I wanted to get at least 86 mage so I wouldn't have to pot to cast smoke barrage in stealing creation. Then...I almost felt faint. "No..." I said, "Not all that time at castle wars! ANYTHING BUT THAT!" And then I thought even harder. If I even wanted to break even at least..."NO!!!!!! NOT FLETCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I refused to do alching. Therefore, I procrastinated like always and messed around in barbarian assault. I just love hitting those noobish penance with firewave \ . But that's beside the point. It suddenly hit me. 42.5 exp for casting fire wave + 4 exp (with robes) for every damage point. The average is 10, so +40 exp. Gasp! 82.5 exp per cast! I went on the g.e. page on the runescape homepage and looked up nats, bloods, and fires. Total cost for casting high alchemy: 275gp Total cost for casting fire wave with an air staff: 338 "Dang," I said to myself. then I saw those 1.3k bloods in my bank all from slaying and barrows. "Why not?" Next thing I know, I'm fire waving harpie bug swarms as my next task from Chaeldar with 300 bloods. After I ran out, I teled to lumbridge and did a price check on my loot: 23,335 gp After a bit of math, I figured out that for fire wave to match high alching in exp per gp, I would have to collect 52k per each 300 (or 13k for every 100 casts) to balance out. It would have to be something with about 40 hp that would drop anywhere between 260gp and 1,000 gp each kill (including small drops and loot.) Noe, that rate doesn't necessarily mean I get ~600 gp every time. It means that after killing 100 monsters, I get a drop worth 60k in one or two of them. I don't monster kill a variety of monsters (I just stick to dusties) so I don't know if there a monster such as that. So I ask the members of tipit, is there such a monster? Because if there is, then that monster gives better mage exp than high alching with bought yew longs and nats.
  2. Doesn't mean we have to accept them :twss: But on a more serious note, to OP: As I see it, there are three reasons why ranters rants about the wild changes: 1. There was a better option. ~"Better" as I have said on many occasions is a debatable word. Jagex are the elder gods of runescape, more powerful than Guthix. They are not "good" gods. They do what is best for the game as a whole. Even if RWT was not a problem, Jagex most likely would have (more gradually) phased out old style pking and replaced it with the newer system or another entirely different one just as they planned.~ 2. Because I want it. Because a lot of people want it. We pay, so we say. ~The citizens of the united stats pay the government (I'm guessing) over a billion dollars a year in taxes. We do have some say in the government, but if EVERYONE had their say, we'd be n complete chaos as everyone would want a million dollars or not to work. There needs to be some sort of "adult" in a system to regulate the behavior and patterns of everyone i.e. moderators 3. I miss it, and I just want to complain about it. ~If everyone did that, we'd get nothing done in this world. Life is change. Change is life. If all of the world's leaders were to die right now (hypothetical situation), life would still go on. There is no "last" event because after the event, life is still going on. This argument is very self-centered as it is saying, "I am important enough that time should just freeze for me." Correct me if I have missed any arguments. The ONLY argument that is valid is the first because it deals with imbalance in the game. Despite Jagex's thoughts about pest control, they really screwed up in the experience rates. As players, we are supposed to report balance/imbalance in the game. The only reason why the first argument is wrong is because Jagex knows more than any of us. They are our guide through the game's life. Since we know nothing when compared to the creators, why should we follow our instinct? Of course, that's not to say that Jagex has no superior in the game. Unless you can mathematically or logically (through syllogisms and concrete postulates) prove Jagex to be wrong, we have to accept that Jagex is correct in their actions. It's all in the terms and conditions (doesn't anyone read it? #-o )
  3. You are confusing "noob" with "newbie". Newbie is rarely used because it is the more polite version of the two. It means "new player". Noob means "idiot", "jerk", or just something to make fun of somebody. It's an affront. Not all noobs are newbies, and not all newbies are noobs If you want some "proof" that "noob" means "idiot", take off the "n" which stands for "new" and see what you're left with. I'm pretty sure you're left with the last three letters of a word that means "idiot" (that is spelled the same backwards and forwards in singular form.) I personally wouldn't consider you a noob because it is the right thing to assume that people are good and let them proof themselves to be bad, instead of the other way around (It would start a giant loop of a downhill snowball). However, I would consider your accounts both newbies because of the level. Probably after lvl 70 is the player considered "not a newbie" because they should have general knowledge of the game.
  4. Have you thought about the fact that ancients can FREEZE people?.. What good is a DDS spec if you are 8 squares away from your opponent? Range is suppose to beat mage anyway so freezing them is really, kind of pointless, but still give you a chance at a quick out if you feel you will lose and don't worry yourself with the invisible code of honor. Special effects are specials too, if you want to complain about specials complain about range having too many specs against mages. Melee does have the most specials using the bar, but what good are they, again, if you are 8 squares away and not getting closer? Eight squares can be covered in less than a second. And you have immunity to freezing after the effect has worn off. What needs to be added is a set of kiting spells to reduce the target's run energy. This would make mages über against meleers without affecting rangers much. There seems to be a mindset of "...need...to...k...o..." in the runescape community. If you have played Go, a gradual and more detailed plan almost always beats the so-called KO attack. And if there's any inequality in combat, it's mages in f2p. The only combat inequality in p2p is that the damn max hits are too high for the hp skill.
  5. Heralds on rune and steel and banners are a step in the right direction in making individual crests (more like a big toe forward though). Clanchat is a very good addition. However, I was never really part of a clan when I played WoW. All I think I know is that clan mates would have a separate list in listing names, like a separate friends list. How is that really different from having a runehead clan? Enlighten me if I'm ignorant of what tangibility having an ingame guild name next to our names or custom armor would have. I'm pretty sure that we can manage without a picture of a dragon or clan crest on our steel armor in the future MSSW's.
  6. Every once in a while I seem to get a reality check. I never would have guessed. Looking at your title, I was guessing to be reading about the maturity of players in the fishing guild has degraded. I was completely blown away by what you have stated. My only advice is to you is to click the report abuse button. Why? Well, it is quite possible that everyone is thinking, "What good will it do?" If there's at least one person who reports, then the bot would be gone. It's like recycling. One person can't change the world, but they can change a bunch of people who together can change the world.
  7. [hide=This is LONG list]memorable ones: saying to my friends that runescape is the stupidest thing ever, and then getting grounded that same first day because I had spent from 4-11 pm on a school night playing it. Completing Dragon slayer doing legends quest at level 79. Traveling across the connecting landmass between sinclair and Freminnik Province and thinking, "Maybe I should do all of the quests so I can get as much tears as possible!" My first 1 mill Doing Desert treasure at lvl 83 My first p2p quest: Druidic Ritual. Second: Ruins of Uzer (or whatever that one is called) Owning full rune. Getting the Guthan helm, abyssal whip, 500k, and dragon square and dragon med helm of an idiot who died in tzhaar (most likely because he botted) Getting my first barrows item on my first ever run: dharok Plate and selling it for 1.6 mill Being scammed out of my whip by a "friend" Being scammed from being lured into the wild (when I thought I was NOT in the wild) Scammed out of whip with the old "warrior ring for zerker ring" scam Man I got scammed a lot in my pre lvl 90 days, didn't I? :wall: My first pk (was a 1 item though :-# ) My first REAL pk (with new system: worth about 90k) My first steps into p2p Realizing that all of my real life friends had moved on after about 6 months of playing Meeting the best friend I've ever had while doing monkey madness Coming to the heart breaking point that he wouldn't come back after knowing each other for over two years (I can't keep in touch with him at all) Getting my qp cape Finally realizing after my friend left that everything must change and this is the life of a runescape player I expect to make this memory: Getting 60 as minimum lvl in all levels. 70 prayer after 9 days in pc 100 combat full dragon Getting A zamorak plate, a zamorak kite, and ranger boots And finally, knowing that I am alone on my friends list in terms of friends [garden tool] have stuck by me for many years. My runescape life is littered with many good and bad memories. If I had to pick the best one, it would be that my friend left. That is because it slapped me in the face to wake up from that dream to realize that the world is not permanent and life will not go on forever. It may have been hard, but it's the truth and will make me a better person because of it.[/hide]
  8. 1) If you mean dragon skirts/legs, yes skirt costs less. In the case of rune, I'm pretty sure they are either equal or legs cost less. 2) You're confusing cause an effect. Instead of starting a flame war by assuming that Jagex is sexist because skirts are cheaper, consider that most males are idiots and would rather have "coolness" over practicality. More guys play runescape than girls. therefore, the legs are in higher demand. It should be quite obvious why dragon platelegs are more expensive than plate skirts. 3) guys can still wear skirts. Ever heard of kilts? \
  9. volatile clay tools are only good for the people who are bored and don't care about concentrated training. In the cause of proto-tools: Daxe > Clay axe D axe equals 10 Clay axe equal 9.5 (at least in my case) Thrice, I have cut 12 yews in 30 seconds with a clay axe... The only catch is that it only lasts about 2.5 trips worth of yews.
  10. Is there a problem with f2p? Yes. Does it pertain to quests? Not necessarily. Does it pertain to new skills? No. What is it? Magic survival in Combat versus meleers Can it be released in a quest? Sure can. But does f2p actually need a quest? No. So now, there doesn't need to be a new quest unless it's advertisement for p2p (seasonal quests). However, it is still a viable option.
  11. If you mean skills, summoning is the most useful. If you mean combat, magic is. If you mean general all around things, teleports are by far almost the most useful...just after banks :P
  12. Though exaggerated, you illustrated the key point in the system. If all monsters dropped the same loot, which would you go after? The Black demon or the chicken? However, you still failed to mention that excess amounts of time in pvp worlds holding at least 75k to risk increases drop value. That would be a good point to mention in the post. Then again, too many people are running into banks and not risking much and expecting to get a good drop. And too many people think that risking 200k gives better rewards than 75k.
  13. In theory, your dps (damage per second) is determined by your strength and attack. Your dps is affected by what monsters you train on. After point X on chickens, your strength will impact your dps more than attack. The flip side is, until point X, your accuracy will have more impact. Problem is, x is a moving target obviously. However, if we had a monster with 1000 hp and 0 defense and it's dps allowed us to camp for extended periods, with the current weapons, controlled would be the best option because, for example, a whip has better stats by far than a d scimmy. Whip + rune def is > Sara sword. It would take the same amount of time in theory to train attack, strength, and defense individually (if whips could do that) as compared to training controlled style. Since strength training is nerfed, it is quite possible that on the right monsters, controlled is the fastest way to all three melee 99s.
  14. If the Legend of Zelda lacked two dungeons out of nine when the creators promised nine and people bought the game or even received the game for free, wouldn't they be asking, "What the hell? Where are the two levels?" What if there was an epic bug in pokemon that prevented people from going into the next gym? "I'm sorry, you paid for the game and actually playing it doesn't do anything for us. You don't earn us revenue so [cabbage] off." how would you feel? Jagex SHOULD update f2p to fix things. If there is no problem, then Jagex should not update that aspect. If there IS a problem, then Jagex SHOULD and usually will fix the problem. Why? Well, let's say Nintendo actually did do what I described. They would lose potential and existing customers. Now, f2p might not earn Jagex money, but is that actually true? For all we know, adverts may contribute to a fourth of Jagex's income. Unless there is actual SPECIFIC (none of that, "The average advert costs $X," crap) evidence that the cost for running and the income from adverts cancels out, then it must be assumed that Jagex keeps that game running because it earns substantial income (Three most powerful motivators: Fear, Honor, and Money). Now, activity for updating f2p runs in a parabolic graph. Too frequent amounts of update will lose subscribers. Too occasional updates will lose advert watchers and potential customers. Therefore, Jagex should ONLY update f2p when it is ABSOLUTELY necessary or will not impact game balance.
  15. 1. You would have the problem of using blood runes, but maybe this can be overcome by adding blood runes to f2p. But NO this would NOT change the magic class's survival rate. There DESPERATELY needs to be a set of kiting spells to make meleers helpless. What the last thing we need to do for mages is to make it easier on them. Increasing max hit dumbs the mind. Magic should be a very strategic skill, but it lacks a good catalyst: kiting spells. Add that, and even blast spells would suffice. 2. Maybe, but then it would break the pattern. But allowing chaos rune crafting would lower the price even more. 100 gp per chaos is good enough. Any less would make mages in the lower level tiers more prevelant and maybe more powerful than need be. 3. Rune arrows and yew bows yes. Blue dhide, no. Considering that rune arrows are just that, rune, they should be f2p. They are lvl 40 weapons. therefore, there needs to be a consistency. The blue dhide is lvl 50 armor. Perhaps they could add some "corrupt" red dragonhide armor, but green dhide is good enough considering that I can fairly easily take out a meleer in range equipment. 4 & 6. The mage armor was long overdue since the previous armor was merely robes that gave about +15 magic attack. Now the max is +31. Druidic robes are not trash. They can be the difference between victory and defeat in a war. 5. It's jagex's way of advertising p2p. It's a nice addition and fun, too. well said. Thats really the best ideas that i have seen. But explain the kiting. I still don't get it. since you asked, here's kiting in a a nutshell: Mage casts spell that freezes meleer in place. Mage uses spell that allows the mage to out run the meleer for an extended period. When meleer dies, mage laughs at the stupidity of meleer for not running away or teleporting. I must confess, kiting is a key element in mage/hunter vs. warrior in WoW (WoW has ideal pvp so it's obvious to try to incorporate some of the pvp mechanics.) kiting is also like this. Anyone who has fought in a f2p war in the tipit war rankings most likely has taken note late in the game about the crucial aspect of tanking. When everyone except the tank has run out of rune energy, the tank has a MUCH better chance of survival because meleers are restricted in range of attack. If you want a summary of kiting in one sentence, here it is: Kiting is literally running circles around a warrior and preventing him from attacking. Because we don't have different speeds in running, (we have the standard of 0 and then running +1, not 0 and then lowering speed to -1), run energy is the key to kiting. The only way to kite in runescape would be to decrease the target's run energy. The ONLY GOOD way to do this is morrigan's throwing axe special which drains rune energy 4 times faster. However, we don't have a sudden decrease (by about 30%), then we have to also run. By running, we may lose track of the target of screen. Morrigan's axe is currently the only way to effectively kite. Karil's has potential, but it decreases agility instead of rune energy. But what is the serious problem is that f2p has absolutely NO way of kiting. P2p can go buy the M axe for 25k each and use ava's accumulator. F2p can't. Kiting is the cornerstone that is missing in the so called strategy of mages: A mage's defense is the distance between their opponents.

  17. Finally, someone who knows that the egg launcher does not lower points =D> =D> =D> =D> I don't know if collector points max out after a certain number of eggs. If they do, it's most likely around 40. But since the cannon should be used in every game, more eggs and higher success rate should be better. It will make the game go by more quickly. but if you get stuck with the ignorant players who believe the rumor, then you're kind of stuck. I've played Ba recently and discovered that the rumor is beginning to pass ever so slow but surely as the truth is coming out. Hopefully, it will be gone completely after a few more months. At that point, lvl 5 collector will be very good.
  18. Alright, first of all, the arguments "You should pay then" and "why should Jagex update f2p?" are very ignorant. Here is why: 1) Well, now I can wear dragon! Guess what? So can everyone else. I can cast ancient magics! 8-) So can everyone else...Have you ever played in clan wars where the only allow spells were binds? It's extremely different from allowing all magic. Why? You can use magic can't you? Of course, but there are restrictions. If someone is unsatisfied with what they can only have, then they should be members. But if the game seriously lacks balance (and p2p combat, ironically, lacks EXTREME balance) then there should be something to add balance. Which brings me to my next point: 2) Jagex should update f2p if something is unbalanced. For example, if FoG had über equipment and was easy to get a hold of, then Jagex should update FoG so that it should have harder requirements. Jagex does not encounter this problem very much in f2p because they don't update it much. Perhaps the human mind requires imbalance every year or so to stimulate the mind. That may be how Jagex pulls you in to p2p. now for the reply to the topic: There should not be more armor. The armor is already good enough and balanced. The way the combat system works depends on luck after a certain degree. Because the hits are low in f2p, luck is less important. It needs to stay that way to keep the balance. What needs to be updated is magic to have a kiting spell. Mages have no good holding spell. The only good thing about bind is in wars where a single bind can kill a tank with a few warhammer snipes. This point also needs to be taken into consideration when asking for snare. A kiting spell is desperately needed because it would allow mages to be able to solo meleers constantly. As of now, I am lucky to be able to survive a meleer of my level while using magic. Our defense is supposedly the distance between our targets. Instead, a mage's offense is their defense. Kiting seriously needs to be introduced in f2p because it has no effect on rangers while allowing mages to have a higher survival rate against meleers.

To Compfreak: I wasn't meaning when I mentioned Avansies that they were on the slayer list. I was merely making a theoretical example saying that is some was as good as avansies on the slayer list or almost as good players may be thinking, "Gee, maybe there are other good monsters out there for me to train on." I was more leaning towards the stimulus point in the proposal instead of the claim that Avansies were a slayer monster or had anything to do with slayer. If it's worth anything, I think that slayer should give the best training monsters ever. You can literally have 1 slayer and get any 99 combat skill extremely quickly with your training methods. Since Jagex wishes to make Runescape a "package to be unwrapped" then they should be more consistent in their methods and be making dark beasts and abyssal demons even better experience than avansies. They should reward those who have the patience but not force those who don't to be worse off. To Sonicwarrior: "good" is a relative term. If you means "good" as in "efficient", then you are wrong as Comp has listed many superior methods. If you mean "good" as in "free", then you are still sadly mistaken as Tears of Guthix is the "best" and even pc is better. If you mean "good" as in "I like the best", that's opinionated and not arguable. And, if you mean "good" as in "self-sufficient", then you are correct. Slayer with the right slayer master is very self-sufficient, not in coins or alchs, but usually in items e.g. you use prayer pots at Aberrant Spectres and get back ranarr weeds. However, Comp's methods are also self-sufficient. Therefore, the point is moot. P.S. Family Guy  American Dad  \
  20. Very impressive guide on magic. I especially liked the luring aspect. I just have a hard time figuring out how to lure someone against an obstacle only taking up 1 space. It's obvious that the picture was a set up with a friend to illustrate a point, but is it really possible to lure someone who's ranging onto a space like that without taking too much damage in the process?
  21. to Rachet Wow, I've read a bunch of your replies on the rants forums, and this has got to be the most caustic    .... .... .... I like it : It gives the reality of the situation and doesn't pull any punches. btw:  +3 nice comeback, I should try to make some more like that =D> =D>

Err... Then you train my recommended way, armored zombie, getting far more XP and twice the cash vs. slayer? If your referring to range, there's so many ways like Avansies (seriously, how much does d hide + 500 broad bolts + crossbow cost? I'll bet it's less then slayer tasks) to make money THEN spend it on chinchompas (you'll notice that I factor in the time it takes to earn money for my training methods). Hmm, you got me there. I guess slayer is just a "finder" skill whose only purpose is to introduce us to training areas like Avansies or things such as that. Obviously when a player would find these places, they would cease to train slayer and go after the peak training spots. Maybe slayer is like the occasional random. Too many annoy us, but one every once in a while will be much appreciated to break the monotony. To the newbie, slayer is a doorway to knowing the training map of runescape. There probably isn't any better training than Avansies, but then again, the d scimmy was beaten by the obby sword + zerker necklace, so the chance still exists. Still, slayer has no real practical reason except to break the monotony or a chance at fairly good drops like d boots, whips, or some mystic armor. Also, I've heard that slayer monsters drop "better" average clue scrolls. In my experience, this has held true, but I was most likely lucky (though I won't complain about zammy kite, zammy plate, or ranger boots \ ) If slayer counted towards one combat lvl by giving a "critical hit" chance for slayer lvls. For example, each lvl in slayer gives a .25% crit chance that increases one's max hit by 10% of their strength level and has a constant damage decrease on received damage by 15% of one's slayer level rounded up. Maybe it's overpowered, but it would give an actual, practical reason to train slayer. So, in terms of practicality, yes, slayer sucks badly. But it is also opinion, and I think it's nice to just lay back and smell the roses sometimes.

"Put the letters two, eight, and seven in the first three digits of your reply to prove you actually read what I typed." Ok, I read it, so don't ignore me please : . I do admit that Slayer is not as good as other training methods. Perhaps I like having my mind engaged while I play. I barely made it out alive from 62-70 prayer doing pc for 9 days. I also abhor Duradel (or Lapolosk, or whatever his name is) tasks. I don't have maxed stats as you can see, and therefore don't go after the hard tasks. I've tried doing a steel dragon task. It was less "fun" than Aberrant Spectres because I didn't really hit frequently. I do admit that Slayer is not nearly as good experience as the "best" training method. However, the "best" is up for interpretation. Your mentioned training methods (if I'm correct in assuming that you use 28 prayer potions or chins for range) are extremely expensive or just plain expensive when using prayer potions. Despite the fact that you have stated that the pay off is incredibly great, it takes a lot of money to make money sometimes. Take battle staffing for example. If you don't have supple amounts of cash, you can't make much money. In like, if your skills are not high, you won't make as much money either. Slayer is a good way to "compromise". I have done at least 80 tasks total (I don't slayer camp ftl) in my entire career in runescape. Despite all of the claims that Duradel is the best, I find that Chaeldar is the best. Her/his (can't tell :wall: ) tasks are fairly high level while also giving somewhat of a challenge even at my near full 90 levels. The tasks usually pay for themselves while also giving some experience. The occasional lava staff or "valuable" high alch is also pretty good in my eyes. There comes a point where there's a trade off between money and time. The best methods require high amounts of money. The not-so-good methods don't. The reason why I say this last part is because since the majority players are children, they still don't know how to save up money for when they need it. A bandos plate is nice to have, but what happens if it's lost and you have enxt to 0 gp in your bank? :?
  24. In my opinion, you should have to choose are you a PKer or a Skiller before you enter the game, and you are binded to that task for the whole round. Skillers are unable to attack other players, and PKers are unable to gather recourses. This would force PKers to co-operate with the Skillers, instead of being self-sufficient. @ravenkana In the tutorial, it says, "Skillers make items for pkers, while the pkers defend the skillers. There must be some sense of team work and cooperation in here...nah, everyone knows that only noobs work together...[/sarcasm] I think what should be said is that the players didn't anticipate another version of Barbarian Assualt that gives good rewards with Stealing Creation. Why is it unreasonable for a group of 3 ancients to guard a group of 3 skillers? It's even better than the self-sufficient higher lvls because you have 3 attackers and 3 resource gathers instead of 1 of both in one player.

Since the dead horse of p2p magic has been beaten at least three times and we have come to the conclusion that p2p mage is NOT underpowered, let's say how f2p magic IS underpowered \ Quite frankly, the modern spell book is underpowered. Granted, it's SUPPOSED to be "worse" than the ancient magicks, but there still should be some preference. It is a fact that the ancient magicks ARE superior to modern combat spells in every which way. F2p magic's supposed defense is the distance between their opponent. If that is the case, their defense is near 0 (literally and figuratively) against meleers. Yes, free to play magic is absurdly underpowered. Unfortunately, the OP wasn't ranting about that (too bad for him 8-) ) As I see it, the only way to rebalance magic in f2p is to add kiting spells that do both damage (though not necessarily the highest) and decrease run energy at a GOOD rate. Probably ~30-40% run energy decrease from a lvl 65 spell that hits max of 15 should do the trick. No this is not "overpowered". Reason? First, kiting has no effect on range unless the ranger refuses to go longrange and is held by bind. Second, melee is SUPPOSED to lose to magic. Jagex was probably thinking that modern spells were good solo pvp magic and ancient was the MOB and AoE spells for massive pvp in castle wars and multi-target areas. In truth, ancients has booted modern spells out of the ring completely. Even if only about 20% more people use modern spells, it would be nice to at least solo pk with mage on pvp workds in f2p.
