I have a Trojan. - Posted HJT log last post.
You don't need to understand it, that's what we're here for. Just run the program, save a log file, and post the contents of that log file here (in hide tags please). HJT is a diagnostic tool to help determine what the infection is, and if you've ran scans, what may have been left over. It is a powerful tool though, so please just save the log file, and don't try to remove things with it. That can lead to disastrous consequences.

comp for rs? prebuilt.
Maybe I'm wrong here, but don't you have to buy a copy of the OS if the one you're using is the OEM copy? I thought you could only use that key once (which is when you first got the computer, so it's useless)? So maybe reinstalling isn't an option? Unless there's a way to use this key more than once that I'm not aware of (I'd just as soon move to Linux than buy a Windows OS again, save the new one coming out).

HELP WITH TAB FUNCTION PLEaSE!!!
I second the motion by including a link to the download. There are themes you can get to make FireFox resemble IE, and you can get an add-on that can run the IE engine in FF (for websites like Microsoft Update that require the IE browser), if you're attached to internet explorer.

Headphones and speakers.
*perverted snicker*... Anyways, I'll second this. Hate when that happens, especially when listening to music that you just can't play quietly (like the song I'm listening to right now: ....and now Ragnarok by Gwar).

Lock this please
*random numbers* at *random numbers* doesn't really say much. The error code should be static (unchanging).. There are a few different errors that could be thrown up. Those exact numbers could mean you get the problem solved faster. I would say write down the error exactly as you see it next time it comes up, and post it here. Also, uninstall your java, and install Java 6 Update 7 (not the release candidate for 10). If it works with 7, but not 10rc, then you've pretty much solved the problem. If it still doesn't work, then that error message becomes more important.

See if you can run Hijack This or MalwareBytes Anti Malware. I just used it on a friend's computer and it cleaned out pretty much eveything in just the quick scan (I know because I scanned with 3-4 other programs on top of it, and each found nothing or 2 things max). HJT should run. I got it to run on a computer with XP Antivirus 2008, so you should be able to get it to run... Speaking of the XP AntiSpyware virus, could you give us more information? I get that you're locked out of task manager, and your computer is slow...Mine does the same thing, which I should be fixing soon. Do you get popups asking you to download another program? Or anything at all you can tell us that will lead us in the right direction. One more thing - try to do run > msconfig and go to the startup tab, see if there's anything in there that shouldn't be (ie anything you don't know). Don't uncheck it, just write it down and post here. If you can't get it, don't worry, there's more things you can do.

Question for those familiar with NOD32, SpybotS&D,ZA(free)
First, don't have everything go at 1am...Having multiple things scanning at once is usually never good. Set it for 1 hour intervals. You have 5 programs, so start at midnight. You should have your computer ready by 6am. The main thing you need is common sense, that will stop about 90% of your computer problems. The programs are for the rest. Although, I would add MalwareBytes anti-malware to that list. Its recieved pretty high ovations in the past. I'll add a more detailed explanation when I get done testing it. I was planning on spending that much or more on my gaming rig...All together, my computer set should cost me about 10 grand, but this is for a gaming computer (solely gaming), a desktop for normal use, a test server (which will probably be my junker desktop), a few monitors, sound system, etc...Cant remember if I planned for another laptop in there or not, but I doubt it. Depends on what he bought too. Could have been a high-end machine, or a prebuilt from alienware or something. Depends on what all he has in there. I've seen monitors that cost $500. Maybe he's going for video work and needed some higher-end stuff in there?

is vista really this bad...
I definately need new pants...and if someone finds the bottom of my jaw, please replace it. 2 terabytes of ram?.... doesn't even begin to explain it. I wonder how much a petabyte of memory would cost...or how much storage that actually is..Because, I know I'd probably have trouble filling up half a terabyte...but 2000x that?...It's beyond my comprehension I guess, unless I actually go and see it. And I suppose that would cost much more than 440 dollars, which is why I made my statement anyways. I would think that's pretty cheap for the amount of RAM it supports, but I'm not exactly an expert on the subject (as is well apparent).

One thing leads to another...
I love to do that when I need some exercise or I just need to get away from people for awhile. Take my bike and just make random turns and get lost. Did the same thing when I first started to drive, because I sucked at making turns (still kinda undershoot some, but it's pretty good now, haven't hit anyone trying to park either : ). Mage_Man - ouch, that sucks. I would love to try parkour, but there are 2 major things stopping me: I live in a boring town, in Florida, and I'm fat...lol. There's nothing really to jump to, everything is seperated....I want to learn how to climb up the drain pipes on like the side of a school though. People lose so much random stuff on the roof (like the 5 or so lacrosse balls I've seen get stuck up there). Plus, how awesome would it be to watch a fat kid climb up a wall with nothing but his hands, feet, and a strong drain pipe.

Question for those familiar with NOD32, SpybotS&D,ZA(free)
Speak for yourself...I'm spending my weekend cleaning out 2 malware-infested computers (XP Antispyware 2009 anybody?), and setting up one as a test server so I can learn PHP and whatnot easier. Which is also why I'm glad this topic is around, because it will help me with cleaning up these computers. Although, I will thank you for hopefully straightening out some of the feuding going on in these forums (it's getting pretty tiresome to read).

Worst thing you got caught doing at school!
Doubt it, but how come the discussion always goes in that direction  (That, or religion/politics) Just a matter of common sense... It starts quite innocent and then we have another 18-page crapfest of really disturbing posts.. This is a RuneScape fan forum...Be glad it took this long lol. And these discussions are innocent, compared to...well...I'm sure we all remember that one topic that got banned not too long ago? Half the title is in this one...Maybe people made the connection in the back of their mind, and all of a sudden the pit of bile and filth was tapped into again, but just the upper layers of semi-innocent discussion? That, or maybe everyone here just really likes to talk about boobs...Which means they are multi function - look at em, get hit for looking at em, and discuss them, plus apparently they are used for mind control..There's something about nourishing the young in there..I think. dizzle - you're pretty...to blind people. :D Jk.

Happy Birthday Trollman118!!!
Well, you can lock it on Thursday Oct 15, 2008 at 3:21 pm, at which time it will be 24 hours and 1 minute since the topic was posted. It will no longer be the person's birthday, and thus this becomes spam. Funny, I was just listening to: "I am more than a fish, I am more than a man!" when I read that. [hide=Video of song]If you play WoW you'll get it. [/hide]

Perhaps the chance of a lifetime?
I would choose Spain..Then again, I love learning about Spanish culture, and it's my favorite language, plus I really dislike France... (and most of the French, for that matter) I know a few people who have studied abroad in different places, and everyone says Spain is beautiful. My grandparents have been all throughout Europe (save Russia, I think), and they loved it in Spain. Said the people were nice, the cities were beautiful, and the food was amazing. I know people who have been to Greece, and they say it's beautiful as well. I don't know as many people who have gone to Greece, but from what I've heard, it's a nice place as well. I suppose the decision would come down to what culture you would be more interested in. Spain just seems to be more fun and exotic than Greece. I love learning about ancient Greece though...Tough choice. You really can't go wrong with either place. If I was in your shoes though, I would pick Spain. I hope I didn't offend anyone too much in that post. (except maybe the French)

Worst thing you got caught doing at school!
Thread is starting to remind me of the old thread that got "removed from public view"..Or at least it's beginning to go that way... As if my high school wasn't bad enough, the tech center I go to (which is an accredited college) had a bomb threat today...Kindof. Apparently one of the adult students decided to write "there's a bomb in the building" on a piece of paper and the teacher saw it, or something like that. They evacuated the buildings and grouped us together (which I still don't understand..If there's a bomb, and we're all packed together, wouldn't the potential for casualties go up?). I thought I was in trouble, because normally you aren't suppossed to download things on the county computers. I was downloading a program written in VB, which is related to what we were doing (I'm in game design, and we're starting with making a game in VB).. After I download the program, and save some websites for source code related to the project (since I planned to tweak the program, I decided I needed more source code). Had to save since only 4 computers are hooked up to the county network, so only they have internet access. All of a sudden, after I save the program, this lady walks in looking official but concerned. She looks directly at me, and announces to the whole class "there's been a security breach. We need to evacuate the building immediately." That probably made me more uneasy, because now I'm thinking if they have to evacuate the building, then I get sued for the lost time and wasted resources, along with whatever the original charge would have been..Then I hear about the bomb threat, and I'm relieved for me...On top of being injured, and having to sit in the uncomfortable cafeteria for 2 periods, and bowling bad, this day is turning out to be one of my worst in awhile that didn't involve punishment or serious injury. And you thought there was only old people in Florida.

Help - RS lag...
Well, if you terminate a process that's important for system stability, when you reboot, that process should be running again, and your system will be fine. Stop a nescessary thing at startup, however, and your computer will crash on reboot, which can lead to a whole mess of problems. I would much rather stop a process through task manager than forever stop it in msconfig. If you really want to be sure you are stopping something harmless, get Process Explorer. It's free, it's from Microsoft, and it's useful (3 things you rarely see/hear in the same sentence). Even if you use autoruns (again from MS), you still run the risk of stopping something vital from starting up. Worst thing you got caught doing at school!
Funny you should mention that. I was sitting in 4th hour at the CIC so we could do research, and my friend was sitting next to me. He was bored out of his mind (already had is project done), and decided to see what documents were left on the computer. He finds one with a bunch of recipies, that was made earlier in the morning, and decides to modify them. I'm sitting next to him, actually trying to do work (it's 1 of 2 classes I'll actually make a decent attempt to do work in every day), and my other good friend is sitting next to me. He decides he's going to re-write one essay, replacing various words with vagina. I started reading the story, along with my friend next to me, and his friend next to him. We all were reading about the same pace, and just start laughing, and can't stop..Problem is, we all laugh pretty loud, and it's a rather quiet place, so the teacher comes over..She reads it, and hilarity ensues, namely when she asks for his project, and he just reaches in his backpack and gives it to her..The look on her face (now on my phone) was absolutely priceless, and she just let it go, walking away shaking her head... Needless to say I got very little work done that period.

Whats the nastiest thing you've done to someone?
By fall down, I meant in the fetal position. I think I've only seen one person not go down in the fetal position after getting kicked in the balls, but it was more of a half laying flat, half fetal... I got 20 bucks for it once, but I was wearing a cup (unbeknownst to the kicker). Still felt a bit of pain, but it wasn't much as it could have been. Was worth it, cause I needed the money, and I knew they had a rather weak kick anyways. In news not related to me this time: There was a cheap fight at school today before 2nd period. Some girl argued with another girl (apparently they used to be best friends). One went to turn to walk away, and all of a sudden the second girl runs after her and sucker punches girl 1, towards the back of the head, around the ear. Girl 1, a bit dazed, responds by punching girl 2 in the nose. Blood pours out, a few more punches make contact, and the fight is broken up. For being hit where she was, and trying to walk away anyways, girl 1 put up a hell of a fight (I'd declare her the winner, if I had to)...Don't know what it is with all these fights recently, there's been at least 1 a week at our school. The worst thing is when you get kicked, and feel nothing for a few seconds. You get just enough time to think "hey, that wasn't really so bad"....Then, the pain sets in, and it's so much worse because you were thinking you were getting away clean.

Multi-booter that will let me choose OS at start up?
I don't think the text should be removed. Maybe we keep it up as a warning that it's possible, but highly illegal, and not recommended...If someone really wanted to know, they would just google search it. I happened to have that link bookmarked, so I posted it. If a mod wants to take it down, fine, but I've already expressed the illegality of torrenting, and the process, and given recommendations against it. If someone wants to ignore the warnings, it's their problem... As for the BIOS, you're right, but I may as well explain my reasoning. Now, to experienced tech people, changing settings in the BIOS may be a simple, even routine thing (especially if you do modding for people, like gamers). However, let you average office worker (or teacher if you go to my school -.-) whose computer experience is about limited to Outlook and Microsoft Office, and the story changes. How many of these people would know that if something went wrong, they should trigger the BIOS reset jumper if loading defaults didn't work? How many even know that the small battery can be removed and replaced to achieve the same effect (after fully discharging the system, of course)....Probably not many. Yes, some changes are relatively safe to make (like changing the boot order so your cd drive is booted from first, then usb, then HDD, for example)...Other changes, like changing voltages, can be very dangerous. The problem is some people may not know what to change, or by how much to change it. The problem isn't that the BIOS as a whole is dangerous, its experimentation in sensitive parts of BIOS, brought about by natural curiosity that's the problem.

Worst thing you got caught doing at school!
I Lol'd....Hard. I Lol'd...Harder. I got caught trying to break through the schools filters...But it was for an innocent purpose - getting to Google Docs to get my essay...They just told me not to try it again or I wouldn't be able to use the computers....Still will not tell me how Google Docs got banned...but Zoho Writer isn't?....Stupid [wagon] county.

job ideas/get rich quick schemes
Good luck. Most places use 6-8 decks now, which is impossible to count. If you want to get rich quick, steal a Ferrari. Now, if you want to stay rich for a rather long period of time, create the next great operating system.
