  1. There's absolutely no problem with starting your Slayer training at any level since the slayer master assigns slayer tasks that's appropriate for your combat level. I highly recommend you read through Axe Man Jack's Master Slayer Guide: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=595295
  2. I don't really have anything constructive nor destructive to add to The Editor's view, I have to admit that I agree to many of the points brought up about how we treat time. We have too much time, so we want it to pass by quickly. We don't have enough time, so the time we have, we want it to last longer. We look forward to a better time. We remember a better time we already had. As humans, we've managed to invent methods and amazingly complex tools to measure time in as precise as possible increments, but at the end of the day, time is subjective and changes depending on the person's perceptions. P.S.: In the "Did You Know...", the word banana was spelled with one too many n's.
  3. So that would be RuneScape's version of a black light, right? Then you can use it to see various bodily fluids all over the place. (or not)
  4. Hold on, you have to be a bit clearer with your question/query. Your account was stolen and the thief was *paying* for the account using a possible fake credit card? Were you charged any money in any way while your account was stolen? First, I have a few questions of my own and this might help you think if spending $181 to get your account back. 1. Does your character have extensively trained skills? 2. Do you have lots of expensive equipment that you spent huge amounts of time and GP to obtain? 3. Did Jagex or however you normally pay for membership charge you any money while your account was hijacked? 4. Do you believe in "honor among thieves" and that your items are safe if you ever regain control of your account? 5. Would you be better off writing off the stolen account as a lost cause and just restart from scratch, thus saving you a humongous headache and around $200? Now, here is some of my answers to the above questions, answers that you may want to consider. 1. I looked at your character's stats on the RS Hi-scores table and only saw two skills on the table, one of which is Ranged at lvl-70. Is it possible your character was hijacked and used as some sort of bot? If not, then I believe you haven't lost a lot of time when it comes to training your skills. 2. I can't see into your bank so this one is up to you. 3. If you were somehow charged money during this time, then definitely appeal for your account and take it up with Jagex's Billing and Customer Service people. Remember: ALWAYS BE POLITE! 4. In most likelihood, the thief traded all your items to his buddy or drop traded all your items to his "main", stripping you clean of everything you own and probably leaving your character in the proverbial gutter. A real-life thief steals for their own gain, not for cakes from the Ardougne food stalls. 5. After considering my questions and my answers for #1 to #4, you may be better off writing your stolen character off and starting from scratch. If you have to pay about $200 to regain control over your character and then pay more to continue your membership, then it is not worth your money and time. However you came up with $181 to regain your account, it'll just be easier to start over.
  5. Probably just bragging rights and storing it in your player-owned house so people can see it whenever you have guests over. Other than that, it's really up to you to decide if it is worth the blood, sweat and tears.
  6. Yes, most definitely! I started training Magic back when I was on the free servers and to support my training, I mined my own essence and runecrafted Minds and Air Runes. When my runecrafting reached the required level to make Fire Runes, I promptly switched to it so that I could gain more experience. Fire combat spells are also the optimal choice since they are more damaging and thus you can gain more experience. I've heard "failed Cursing" is also a possible method of Magic training. "Failed cursing" is when you wear equipment that purposely causes your spell casting to fail and you constantly cast the Curse spell. Personally, I don't like this method since you have to pay attention to the game 100% and constantly be clicking the Curse spell and then your target, then the Curse spell and then your target etc. OK, back to runecrafting. Mining your own essence is a necessary evil, especially if you want to save bundles of money -- I was dirt broke and I am still dirt broke since I dislike wasting time merchanting; I prefer to be as self-sufficient as possible. To keep myself from going insane, I mined 1000 essence then I runecrafted 1000 essence worth of runes. Other people prefer to mine or buy as much essence as possible before they make their runes. Just use what you're comfortable with and is within your sanity boundaries. Good luck and happy 'Scaping!
  7. Hey all, looks like my hiatus is over but my membership has expired. For now, I'll be sticking to F2P and training some neglected skills like Firemaking and runecrafting some basic runes. So, since my cash flow is once again positive, I'll renew my membership around December.
  8. This is good advice regardless of cannon use.
  9. Money is fleeting, exp is forever. So runecrafting is the way to go. If you're P2P and you can do the runecrafting Abyss mini-game, then the amount of time you'll take per run will essentially be the same, regardless of the rune type. If you're runecrafting without the Abyss, then stick with Airs for as long as possible since the Mind altar is an annoying walk/run from the Falador Westside Bank. If you really need Mind runes to train magic, then switch to Minds as soon as you can. Elemental runes can always be substituted with its respective elemental staff but catalyst runes like Mind or Chaos should be runecrafted. Air runes are common to nearly all the spells in the Modern spellbook so my advice is to invest in an Air staff and runecraft any other elemental and catalyst rune you need.
  10. Yes, install JRE from the Sun Java website.
  11. Oh wow, it's been a long time since I've logged onto RuneScape. I *did* notice the new shops interface when I logged on two days ago and I also noticed the shops were devoid of bots. Anything that stops bots is A-OK in my books! We should all understand, or at least begin to realize that bots are and always will be a continuous nuisance to honest players. Jagex can only tackle one bot problem at a time; in this case they chose shop-bots. In time, Jagex will formulate other bot-stopping methods and gradually integrate it into the game. If you read the Developer Diary regarding the shop update, the Dev Team also improved the underlying shop system, generalizing the system so that it'll be easier to introduce new specialty shops. Which is a good thing since this will make the Dev Team's process of introducing new towns with new shops easier in the future. Anyways, fewer bots means more space for honest players and retroactively, less server load.
  12. I wish Santa would (at least in RuneScape): 1. Recall all currently distributed Santa hats due to a defective pom-pom that would occassionally explode and blow a person's head up, causing it to leave disgusting, smoldering smears of burnt bone and brain matter on Falador masonry. 2. Recall all currently distributed Party hats due to a defective gold-trim that would act as a radio antenna on rainy days and illegally pick up RSM (RuneScape Moderator) emergency radio channels. 3. Have Bert's long lost brother Ernie, mine and deposit Pure Essence into our banks at 1000 units/day for a reasonably difficult quest. 4. Have a Krakken occasionally attack multiple fisher bots in the Fishing Guild and they are unable to log off, run away etc and are forced to defend themselves with their harpoon. 5. Persuade Dondakan to give us the secret to making the different cannon balls so that we can go through Slayer tasks quicker. 6. Give us a quest that infects us with the Lycanthrope virus and allow us to transform into a Werewolf that will allow us to effectively attack and kill the Vyrewatch. (haven't you guys watched that very bad Van Helsing movie that starred Hugh Jackman?) 7. Upgrade the Bone-Grinder from "Martha Stewart kitchen counter top version" to the "ACME Nuclear Powered Industrial Strength version" so that we can power grind through a full inventory of bones and have it automatically deposit the bone powder into clay pots. 8. Allow us to renovate our player-owned houses so that we can have multiple lecterns in one study and expanding the lecterns to include a selection of Ancient and Lunar spells. 9. Give us an item to smite bots and temporarily disrupt their ability to bot by teleporting them to Tutorial Island, forcing them to go through the tutorials before they can reach the mainland again. 10. Make us some good ol' stomach warming reindeer stew!
  13. Here's the Sun Java link: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html You want the version called JRE, which is the Java Run-time Environment. Any other version is only useful if you want to develop your own Java apps. Click the link and just follow the instructions. One thing you may want to try is to select a different Java version when you're at the "Warrior & Skeleton" screen to choose your High Quality or Low Quality version of the game. You can select the Java version from a drop down menu at the bottom of the page. Also, try using the Low Quality game version so that your computer loads fewer resources to get the game started.
  14. Or just go for the extreme and fill up your inventory with as many shards as you can carry.
  15. If you have a DVD writer, you should go out to your nearest computer store and buy a nice tall spindle of blank DVDs. Back up all of your important data like homework assignments, music, movies et al. Then, ask a friend that more computer literate for some help formatting your computer's hard drive so that you can reinstall Windows and your hardware drivers. A thorough clean-up of your computer like this is usually a very good way to make sure you don't have any malicious apps running in the background. It may seem a little extreme to format your hard drive just to clear out key loggers but peace of mind is priceless.
  16. Check the RFD Guide: http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2quest_id=134#evildave Read through it carefully. You may have just missed something very, very minor.
  17. Agreed. I've gotten bored of RuneScape and I've moved on to more productive past-times like building electronic gadgets. If I had a goal before I quit, it would be getting a Full Infinity Set via the Mage Training Arena. Also, I'll miss the people I've met since I've started playing. My character will still be on the RS-database and I'll be assured that if I ever want to rejoin the insanity of RuneScape, they I can simply pick up where I left off. No "Quitting Bank Sales" for me since I don't own a lot of stuff in the first place.
  18. Obtaining the smoke diamond is also rather easy. The hardest part of the smoke diamond is running to the four ancient torches in the correct order, lighting them and grabbing the "warm key" to unlock the gate that leads to Fareed's chamber. Fighting Fareed is also rather easy since he primarily uses a melee attack. I say 'primarily' because I'm not sure if he has an alternative attack like magic or range. Anyways, it's best to use your most powerful Water spell, magical equipment that gives you the highest magic attack bonus as possible, Ice Gloves if you want to wield a Staff of Water or Water Battlestaff and whatever potions you think you'll need during the fight. A note about fighting Dessous the Vampire. Protect from Melee is a must because his melee attacks are extremely devastating! His magic/range attack will be constantly hitting 5s so it's best to hit him hard and hit him fast! You most powerful air attack, maybe a Magic Potion, and a Prayer potion or two. Then fill up your inventory with your best possible food. I managed to get through the fight (barely!) with an inventory of Monkfish and at a much lower combat level than yours. If I can do it, you can do it too!
  19. Perhaps that's the key to the problem? That too many players have too much in-game currency that everything is becoming easily obtainable so that all the supposedly difficult to obtain items are becoming far too common place.
  20. Hey Zaid, vacation sounds cool! Have fun with that  . Remember our little discussion of us trying to get a lvl-99 party by the end of the year? I don't want to say this but I don't think I can get lvl-99 runecrafting by December. It's not like I don't want to do it, but a few personal things have come up and I need to take a break from the game. I'm going to start converting my bank for free-world play and it maybe be a while until I can get back onto members. Or get back into the game for that matter. :( But hey, I'll still be up on the Tip.it boards, helping people out on the Help and Advice area and such. 8-)
  21. I'm *still* a "noob" when it comes to merchanting items for money. Usually, I'm on the buying end to get supplies for training skills. Even now, I still have the trade mentality that Scaredy-Cat was writing about. Did I type out my trade announcement correctly? Will I get reported to item scamming? There's a whole lot of other questions that go through your mind when you're an inexperienced merchanter. OFF-TOPIC: I'm also a bit pieved at the fact that many high-level items such as the reknown Abyssal Whip and Barrows Armor sets are owned by people who bought them instead of using their wit, skill and luck to obtain them. What happened to the unique and untradable items that distinguished the wheat from the chaff? And I'm not talking about Skill Capes, even though they *are* a good way to distinguish a player but even those are becoming common-place. Maybe they need to introduce more items that are near impossible to obtain from a mini-game or another game mechanism and make them untradeable! That way, all the high-level players who are inclined to get this said item will have something to make them unique in a crowd.
  22. Here's how you can calculate exp/hour rates for yourself. Minotaur -- 22HP/minotaur = 88 exp/minotaur You -- T minotaurs/minute T minotaurs/minute * 60 minutes/hour = (60 * T) minotaurs/hour (60 * T) minotaurs/hour * 22HP/minotaur = (1320 * T) HP/hour (1320 * T) HP/hour * 4 exp/HP = (5280 * T) exp/hour So, figure out how many minotaurs you can kill in 1 minute, plug it into that equation and you'll get your exp/hour.
  23. A better question is "How many monkfish can you catch before going insane?"
  24. Yes it is possible but I sometimes fail to pass the stick traps even at my current agility level. #-o I recommend training to at least lvl-55 Agility and then using an Agility potion, since you'll have more 4 Agility boosts instead of 2 for 1 inventory spot.
  25. To elaborate: Lunar -- made during the Lunar Diplomacy quest. Dropping any part *destroys* the part. You can buy missing parts from the Oneromancer any time after the quest. Costs almost the same as the Mystic robes from the Wizard's Guild in Yanille. Kyatt -- get Kyatt pelts with Hunter (lvl-52 to wear, lvl-55 to hunt), then go to the costume shop in South-East Varrok to get them made. Jester -- obtained during the Fremennik Isles quest. You can safely drop them and reobtain them for free.
