  1. Thanks for the advice, I'm still not sure on keeping 1 defense and I really like the maul, I'm looking at staying as low as possible with a chaotic so I'm only aiming on 70-80 strength for now, I dont want to get 40 defense because of the quests such as barrow gloves and vengeance I already have done these on numerous other accounts and I really cant be bothered doing them again. I only really wanted 20 def-30 defense because it opens more options of equipment I can use, And I have had many 1 def pures and kind of tired of it. Just experimenting with this account for now, If it works I'll be happy if its dose not I always have other accounts to fall back on. Lower level PKing on a prossy pure(AKA Addy daddy, "true" turmoil pure, ect) could actually be interesting. However i would suggest at least getting the defense experience from defender of varrock and what lies below will save you a world of regret if you ever want to max out with turmoil(Which you should, eventually). So take out a day and get the requirements for the quest. Because lets face it, with 80 attack, 99 strength, 30 defense, and 52ish prayer you'll get torn to pieces by non-maxed turmoil pures(Whom would still have 95 prayer). Trust me, you will face them at that level. Because i myself was at that combat level without turmoil and couldn't get many fights against other pures without turmoil. A "corrupt" pure(20 defense) is completely open to question, as i myself have never experimented with the idea of one. Advantages i know of are rune gloves, initiate, dagon'hai, and of course corrupt equipment if you can afford it. Quests that you should do for this build are nature's spirit for rune gloves and what lies below for dagon'hai.
  2. I have just about the same buy list as you minus the gravites, bonecrusher, herbicide and the scroll of efficiency. Next I'm going for the ccbow, as it's most suited for my tastes(Ranging on curses, while heavily armored, ect). But a lot of other things are open for suggestion as it really depends on your activities.
  3. Go with the rapier. Maul is nice, but it's overwhelming accuracy is near useless on lower defenses. 1 def with a rapier is amazing. Even against zerkers and tanks, most of the ones you'll be facing aren't really developed yet. With 80 attack and a rapier, you would rip though their defense like butter(Zerkers moreso then tanks). I would suggest getting at least 85 - 90 strength first though. Another reason why i suggest 1 def is that it leaves your account open for development. 95 prayer gets cheaper and easier to get every day due to overpowered gambling(Dicing, staking, ect) and bots crashing the bone/ash market. But if you decide to get higher defense, quest it! You'll regret it if you get 20 or 30 defense just by training it, and suddenly come into a wad of cash and want to get turmoil or something. For such a reason, you would have to leave out some quests if you want to stay a certain defense level and still get turmoil. Whilst if you quested your defense now, you can have all of it at 45 defense, or most of it at 40 defense. And mildly unrelated advice, KEEP YOUR PRAYER UP WHILE PKING. I've seen countless pures who have 52 or lower prayer get their chaotics smited. Drink a dose of prayer potion as soon as you can without wasting any. And if you have to chose between shark-brewing and shark-restoring at low prayer and LP, choose the restore. Better to die and lose ~100k in gear then die and lose your chaotic.
  4. I'm pretty sure this is the correct place for this. All that's really in this subfourm is discussions about individual games, but i think this is the best-suited spot >.> Anyway, today while making a pitcher of ice tea i caught myself humming the theme to Syrup's shop from the Zelda series. But then i thought about it and realized i always do that whenever I'm mixing something like juice or tea with a spoon. Though being such a hardcore fan of the series since i was a kid, it was no real surprise to me since my childhood consisted of running around in my back woods with a green hat and a wooden sword and shield. But with the days of wanting to be Link behind me, i've realized that i've still kinda' maintained some things with my obsession. For example, sometimes I'll tap my shoes on the ground when standing around somewhere like Link does in Ocarina of Time. Heck, i even sneeze like he does in OoT. Of course such things could have just become force of habit since i was obsessed with the game at such a young age. But I'm wondering how long things like this will last XD Has anyone else developed strange habits like this before?
  5. When i was picking out my first aura, i was deciding between Reverence and knock-out. Even though no research had been done on any of them yet, i still went with Reverence. Now it seems on a whole, most people have gone with reverence as well since it(mentioned above) has the most immediate bonus. Knock-out i could see having a *very* small effect with activities in the long run like slayer and such. As it will save an attack turn on every few kills. Runic seems kinda' useless unless you're max-mage bonus barraging at castlewars or something with full Virtus. Sharpshooter i can see being the most useful if you're a Nexer. I don't see a situation where the friend in need aura could be practical to use. I doubt it could be used to make an enemy miss attack turn to save someone from dying, say at bandos because they accidentally lured gaar. The tank's reaction time to activate the aura wouldn't be fast enough. The person who lured him would be dead by then. The only useful thing i could see it for is if a bunch of people went in and ganged Nex with the aura. But even then it wouldn't be very useful. The safe bet is Reverence. But keep in mind that it isn't a huge bonus and on average will only save up to a couple K gp an hour in terms of prayer potions. None of the auras have very big impact, which is why people are waiting and saving for Jack of all Trades to see how good it is.
  6. As said before, a handcannon would be ideal. However, on top of doing the quest you would have to get 90~ firemaking to even use it effectively(Unless you want to constantly have it blow up in your face). Decent equipment would be barrows legwear(Ideally Verac's), a black hide top, nezzy helm, rune kite/obby shield, glory, accumulator, black hide vambs, glory, recoil, ect. As for a spec weapon... I'm kinda' at a loss. If you're using a rune crossbow, you might want to use dstone bolts. And if you're fighting other range tanks, take along an antifire. Because if all they're relying on for a K0 is a dbolt special, you've just negated pretty much all their K0 power. But expect people to do the same for you. I have had no luck specing with a dbow. So i personally can't vouch for it. But, if you can make it work then go for it. Other then that there are Morrigan's javelins. Most likely the best K0 weapon. However, it's extremely expensive as one costs roughly 300k. It's really up to you. I see a lot of range tanks forgo spec weapons all together and just rely on their crossbow bolts.
  7. This is a good rule of thumb in the Runescape economy, in general it doesn't work like how manufacturing in the real world does. I'll explain: RS Items have two properties that give them value, potential XP, and functional value. If we take this partial process: Uncut Dragonstone + Unfinished Rune Bolts > Cut Dragonstone + Unfinished Rune Bolts > Dragon Bolts > Dragon Bolts (e), we can see that as you go along, we get closer to something that can be used, from a dull rock and bits of metal to dragonfire blasting crossbow bolts. Its functional value is increasing. If something similar was done in the real world, that would be the only factor and the overall value would increase with each stage. However, in Runescape, items have potential XP, which can be yielded by processing them. In the process above, each stage involves a loss of potential XP, which starts with a heap of Crafting then a bit of Fletching and Magic XP, leaving nothing left when you end up with the finished product. Its XP potential is decreasing. XP for 'processing' skills, such as Fletching, Smithing, Magic and Construction inherently have a value, so by processing it, you're removing this value from the item and adding it to your account. In this case, the XP you extract is worth more than the added functionality of the finished product, so the overall value goes down for most, if not all, stages. I hope that made sense, if not, I apologise. This post nailed this thread on the head =D> However, i will add that Dragonstone bolts could be losing value due to looters and PvP circulation. I went PKing the other day with dstone bolts, and every fight i brought 10 of them and only lost 5 on a full inventory of rocktails. So they don't break very often. On top of this, when you do die with them your opponent picks them up and likely sells them, putting them back into the market. This most likely made them less profitable to make(As i do believe they were profitable to make at once) as their price has dropped to around 2k ea.
  8. I saw this and thought it was about chinning. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of guides out there that list ways to break red chin bots. Just fish around for one and break bots in a world, then take it over.
  9. How does it work then? Your stats in-game are programed with a constant 1-minute "update" system. From the moment you log in, the game starts counting down on a minute timer. Once the timer his 0, your stats are "updated" and any boosted stats you have will be reduced by 1 and the timer resets. Once it hits 0 again, your stats will go down by 1 and the timer will reset again. And so on and so forth. You can counter this by logging out to the lobby, and back into the game. This resets the timer and you get another minute(Although you should estimate on about 45 seconds due to log-in lag and just as a safety net in-case you lag) of time before your stats degrade. You can utilize this method to stay stewed to make overloads or extremes. It also works for using stationary stat-boosters to boost for a quest or something. Example: Using the mud baths for a hunting boost, or perhaps speaking to Oldak for his +2 runecrafting boost then logging out, then back in to reset the timer. After that, you traverse to the object/person you need to interact with with the boost being sure to re-log every 40 - 50 seconds as to prevent the boost from degrading. On an unrelated note, this stat-degrading system is also the reason that sometimes your stats will degrade right after you boost them. Since the timer isn't based on when you boost the stats, it's an automatic degrade every minute. Sorry for the long explanation, i was in an in-depth explaining mood >.>
  10. Try starting a new account, such as a pure. Limiting yourself and having to plan out quests can be fun and challenging at times. Or simpily just create an unrestricted account and play through content again. Do quests and don't skip the dialog; try to really pay attention to it. You might gain appreciation for the work that Jagex puts into some of their questlines. Oh; and it helps if you play with music on while questing. It can really set the mood for questing and make it more enjoyable(Maybe it's just me though O.o ). While WoW is a stereotypical suggestion, playing other games to replace your interest in RS is a suggestion if you absolutely can't find anything to do in-game.
  11. I was just about to point that out. That build looks good and all, though adding my OS and picking my own case would make it out to over $600 not including shipping. Whilst right now $520 WITH shipping is pushing my budget a lot. As of now I'm really satisfied with the build Spork gave me in terms both of cost and part reliability/power. As for the LG optical drive, i've come to really trust LG products. And if worst comes to worst, it konks out and i have to spend 20 bucks for a new one. The only reason I'm getting one right away is because i need it to install my OS.
  12. But longsword has +13 more stab and also has a stab option? Doesn't matter. The speed of the rapier overcomes the bonuses of the longsword in 99% of situations. The only places i believe the longsword is better then the rapier is solo/tanking bandos and perhaps skele wyverns? But i think maul is better there anyway.
  13. Hmm... I really like that build. The case doesn't seem too much different from the coolermaster ones i was looking at. And i like that video card; it was one of the main things i was concerned about due to my graphic-heavy activity i would be doing while still trying to keep it a budget-sensitive computer. The motherboard is comforting since it's a gigabyte. As much as i would like 4 memory slots, i guess I'll have to sacrifice since I'm at the mercy of my budget. Everything looks really good; i think this might be my winning setup. Thanks for the list ^.^
  14. Oo, alright that makes sense. As much as i would like space for additional RAM, if i need to drop some then I'm willing to. With the current build i have thought up(The one i listed a few posts back, replaced with the mobo and processor you listed) looks really good to me. Though I'm not 100% sure how to match up processors and motherboards correctly. A cheaper graphics card would be nice. I personally was looking at this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102874&cm_sp=Cat_Video_Cards_%26%2338%3b_Video_Devices-_-Best_Sellers-_-14-102-874 But, again i don't know if Sapphire is a trusted brand.
  15. I like the look of that motherboard. I researched a bit and it seems that ASrock has a pretty good record. However, that processor is 20 bucks more expensive then the one i currently have(Though the processor and the mobo come as a combo, so since I'm switching out the mobo I'll most likely do the same for the processor). EDIT: I realized after carefully going over the specs that the processor was cheap because it didn't come with a heatsink. Thus why Guy listed a CPU cooler also. And on top of that, I'm getting my PSU and my case in a combo deal with about a 40% discount. So i think I'll stick with those since I'm essentially getting my PSU for free. Since most people are telling me that i really shouldn't go any lower for my mobo and processor as to stay current-generation, i think the only place i can downgrade is my video card. Anyone have any suggestions in the 50 - 60 range? Also, how do i tell which processors will work with which motherboards? What exactly is the difference between a mATX and a ATX board? From what i researched myself, mATX just seems smaller. So i assume less ports and less overall power, perhaps?
  16. Major troll from Jagex. I would lol. With that aside, uncut gems actually might be a possibility.
  17. I'm aware =P I was just using Dell as an example. With that said, the reason I haven't blown out my current computer of late is simply because i've been planning on a new one. And on top of that, I've also kinda' have been purposely neglecting it's cleanliness due to the fact that if it gave out, I would have an excuse to ride my parents for a lone XD I might do it now though since it's in front of me, open and disconnected. Edit: After a few hours of taking things out of my computer and cleaning them, i finally was able to close it back up and boot it up. I get this strange error message now that i have to bypass. But besides that everything boots fine. Though i found out one devastating thing: All the drives in my computer are PATA. So I'll have to buy a new disk drive anyway <_< Edit 2: So, i've been looking over the two lists and i really like the one Guy gave me in particular. Especially the case. I like the case's design a lot better, and it would allow expansion pretty easily for a budget case. But I'm a little sketchy with the MSI motherboard, as i see a few mixed reviews about em'. Most people say to go with a Asus or Gigabyte for better reliability. I've put the list together with the optical drive I'll need(Optical drives seem pretty straight forward in terms of compatibility), plus an additional sata cable I'll need to hook up my optical drive. MOBO: MSI 870-G45 - $70 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 925 Deneb 2.8GHz - $90 RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 - $31 Video card: HIS IceQ Radeon HD 5670 - $90 HHD: Western Digital 500GB - $43 OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - $100 Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 912 - $60 PSU: COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus 500W - $40 CPU fan: COOLER MASTER Hyper TX3 92mm CPU Cooler - $20 Optical drive: LITE-ON DVD Burner iHAS124-04 - $19 SATA cable: Link Depot SATA II Cable - $4 The Motherboard only came with one SATA cable, so i had to add another for the optical drive. Though i have one question about it: It says SATA II cable. Is this in any way different? All i can find are cables labeled SATA II so i assumed not. After all the discounts i get, and adding in shipping the build will cost me about $540~. This is a little over my budget, so i was looking for some ways to downsize it. I'm really happy with the Motherboard's features, I'm just worried about reliability due to the brand. Perhaps swapping it out for a Asus or Gigabyte with similar specs would be a bit cheaper and easier on the mind? Also, the processor is a bit on the pricey side too. But I'm sure if i swapped out the MOBO that i would choose a new processor too since the current two are a combo deal. The last thing i think i can downsize is the graphics card. As much as i would love to have this one(The more power the better), it's just not really in my budget. Perhaps one in the 50 - 60 range? Also, i hear most AMD processors come with paste pre-applied. But how can i confirm this when I'm finally set on a build and I'm ready to order?
  18. Thanks for both the lists. They're pretty affordable, and on top of that they're over and above what i was imagining for specs. However, how much more would it be to fit a more well-trusted name motherboard of similar specs? I've had 3 people so far suggest Asus as a good motherboard, and it seems Gigabyte is also a well-trusted name. What kind of board should i look for under these names if i choose to take a list and modify it? Another question i have: I know it can be a bit more maintenance up-keeping a custom-built computer. Though how much upkeep(Compared to say, a store-bought dell or something)? The main reason I'm opting for well-trusted name brands is because i would hate for my motherboard or something to give out in a year, and have to replace it. Are things like that any more common with custom built computers compared to normal ones? And OldJoe, I'll open up my computer in a second and figure out the connection for the optical drive.
  19. Thanks guys. These are the kind of answers i was looking for to further my knowledge of these kind of things. The main fear i have is buying a DIY kit, or having someone make me a list then ordering all the parts and have two of them not fit together. But learning stuff like this hopefully I'll be able to crosscheck everything myself. It's just a bit overwhelming when the titles of parts on newegg are 75% numbers and letters that i have no idea what they mean. I'm learning that there are key things i have to look out for.
  20. I've been looking at a lot of the DIY kits on newegg, and a lot of the more affordable ones have AMD motherboards. Exactly how reliable are they though? And thanks for the tip on the sata connectors. I would have overlooked that personally. So i imagine those are the cables that attach the hard drives and optical drive to the motherboard? And essentially the more sockets on the motherboard, the more drives you can have hooked up to it?
  21. Thanks. That answers quite a few questions. So the main thing i should be looking for is a motherboard that is both affordable, and also supports DDR3 RAM. And it also looks like I'll be getting 4 gigs of RAM anyway since I'm shooting for DDR3. It looks like that's where most of my price is going to come from. And I'm not expecting anything exceptional from the build. I'm just expecting something that actually works. With my current computer, locking up and freezing is a common occurrence. Especially when running RS. If i click on a program, it takes about 3 minutes for the program to actually launch. And i struggle running more then 3 programs at a time and switching between them. Freezing is common when i do things like that(EG: Runescape, firefox, and iTunes).
  22. Some of you may remember the two posts i've made in the past year about building a new computer. Well i've finally come to it, as I'll have the money in the next month. So i have a few questions, and I'm also requesting a list(I've waited until now to actually request one since technology gets outdated so fast). My budget is going to be around $450, with around $500 being my absolute ceiling. It may not seem like much, but consider what I'm dealing with now is a dell precision 340, which I'm positive is over 10 years old and hasn't been reformatted for at least 5: ANYTHING is better. My basic digital activities include RuneScape(Often while running iTunes and my browser; i use the downloadable client), Minecraft(Being able to handle this on far rendering distance would be a godsend), and watching streaming videos. Specifically anime on sites like anilinkz and animefreak. My current computer has no problem with this, however i am unable to watch a lot of it on fullscreen because it drops to an extremely low FPS(I imagine it's because of outdated graphics hardware). And lastly of course basic everyday internet stuff like youtube, facebook, ect. Once i have it, i would be making a steam account and start spending money on games. So taking that into consideration, i would want to make sure that the build could at least handle games like this. Additionally I'd like to do some video editing with Vegas since i want to get into making RS commentaries. I know i want windows 7 on it(64 bit ofc), and I'm also wondering if i could use my current optical drive instead of buying a new one. I have no clue it's exact specs compared to current models, but it serves it's purpose now and if it would save me $25~ bucks, I'll be willing to use it. [spoiler=Picture of my current optical drive] It's the bottom silver one. The one built into the computer doesn't even work anymore. Also, i was told that i might be able to open up my 1TB external hard drive, and take the actual drive out of it and put it in my build for faster speeds and general ease of not having it on my desk. How hard would this be? My external is a Western Digital 1TB, and pretty much has my whole digital life on it. So i would hate to put all that at risk because i have nowhere to back it up. How do you do this and what are the risks? Is it even possible without losing the data on it? Even so, I'll still be using it to store a lot of my things on. So i don't need a huge hard drive. 200 gigs should suffice. I'm also going to pull the hard drive out of my current computer(36 gigs) format it, and use it. So that makes a possible total of about 3 hard drives in the case. I'm not sure how many slots affordable cases average, but 3 would be nice. A few other things: I know i want DDR3 RAM(at least 2 gigs, hopefully i can squeeze 4), i know i need to buy a static mat to assemble it on. But if i get a static mat, do i also need the bracelet? My dad had one floating around, but i don't know where it went. And lastly, how much would a graphics card cost? Since most of the stuff i do is graphics-intensive, i would think i would want one. But how expensive could one get for my needs? Thanks in advance for your answers. I've never built a computer before, so this is kinda' daunting for me. But i've read up on it and i think with a little help I'll be able to do it ^.^
  23. Thanks. I'll be on the look out for people using this method next time i go rev hunting.
  24. And from time to time people ask you how you smuggled it out of Daemonheim. Actually the question i used to get the most was "Is that torva?" Though now that torva's looks are more known i don't get that as much :P
  25. I got the task on my battle pure and skipped it. I just think it's too much preparing and struggle for such a simple reward.
