  1. Jrhairychest, I shouldn't let stupid things bother me but they do. And I have a fairly long memory, especially for those that are disrespectful. I'll treat you as a troll until you can prove yourself otherwise. Quite making this about me. YOU have no idea of who I am, or what I do. YOU do not know if I have a members account, or what I pay jagex each month. The only thing YOU know about me is what I let you know. Jrhairychest, do you even understand what my points or arguments are? If you think that my only purpose posting on here is to make the point "OMG F2P NEEDS MORE STUFF BECAUSE WE LIKE TO FREELOADZZZZZ!!!!!", you're sadly mistaken. You know whats funny? "To be honest Id be a tad embarrassed at getting something for free, then complaining I want more." I picture you as a whiny 14 year old, begging your parents for more stuff. Maybe if you tried for a second to stop trying to look intelligent or points score you may get somewhere. You don't have to prove anything to me you know if you're trying to do this. I'll forgive you this as it gave me a good laugh.
  2. Runescape will end with Andrew sells off his shares of Jagex to some company that isn't interested in running its business model. And as far as I'm concerned, runescape will end when I quit. :P
  3. You say "claim" as if there's no basis for it, which is ridiculous. Fine, but you're getting away from the OP. The reason Hagge created this thread was to make a better argument for putting outdated boss monsters on F2P. If the only thing people say is "F2P doesn't pay so no", they're not being constructive. Lets all stop beating that dead horse, get back on topic. OTHER than the fact that F2P is free, why would releasing older, dated content to the free version be a bad thing?
  4. My current goal is to get 77? woodcutting. But that's because I used the "random goal" thingy. In the long run, I'll have maxed f2p. My goal for the end of this year is to have 1250? total levels. My goal next year will probably be to get on the top 250 list, unless I can't keep up with the new skill. Also, that 1250 does not include the new skill, my goal will be 1320 once the new skill is released. Cheers.
  5. RAWR! Inflation is not a problem to the average 'scaper! Inflation hurts those with many GP, and only if they have no money tied up in items. Saying otherwise is foolish, and trying to "fix" or "stop" it is a stupid idea.
  6. You should take a look at my other idea that's been floating around for a long time, the spellbook. Then you'll know that I love incorporating input, I figure a product of the masses usually is better than something I could dream up myself. I'll probably have this idea in a better shape by monday.
  7. @Crimson I like your suggested improvements, and I'll update the OP as soon as I can figure out how to treat Dragon weapons / armour. @quelmotz It helps adamant and below because weapons are now worth XP, where before they were not, and still widely considered junk. People will be willing to pay more than 1 gp for a steel scimitar because its worth a few xp. Question: Should black weapons be included? There is no such thing as a dragon bar, so why should dragon armour be included over black armour...
  8. I don't know if you recall, but in the past you have absolutely refused to debate me, ignoring my points and then attacking my character. I "bleat on about trolling" because trolling kills threads with good discussion merit. I don't complain about people who don't troll, there have been many tip.iters that have disagreed with me on numerous occasions, but then they do they do a good job supporting their opinion. It really rips me raw to see people respond to anything about f2p with "shut up and pay noob", or anything to that affect. My "erroneous" facts about Jagex's business model come from reading MANY, MANY articles that have been posted on Tip.it, talking about WHY JAGEX IS SO SUCCESSFUL. "UK-based developer-publisher Jagex is best known for its sleeper hit MMO, the Java-based RuneScape. Though it lacks the hefty graphics and complex mechanics of other comparable products, RuneScape claims some 6 million users, due in part to the fact the game employed the free-to-play business model before many others got on board the emerging trend." -http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=17136 [hide=Or the first question from an interview with MMG]Jagex is known as a pioneer of free to-play games, but has the model itself reached the levels of popularity many had expected it to? I think we have. When we started out the whole industry was fixated on classic retail distribution, and no one really understood the free-to-play model, or even the online model. Today we see the complete opposite, with some of the biggest names in gaming wanting to do what we have done. Many companies are not quite following our own model. If we look at some of the companies that have tried to copy what we do, like Sony and Free Realms, these companies are releasing just a free demo for the membership component and monetizing component of the game. We feel that the Jagex model, and certainly RuneScape, is different to this. We have released a comprehensive free game for our fans. Just to give you a sense of scale, the free game has got over 13,500 hours of gameplay to it; we know this because that’s how much time our most-dedicated free-to-play player has spent on the game so far, and that person has still not maxed out all her skills. So people have seen that the free-to-play model works, but typically companies implement it in the wrong way, and only offer a few hours of free play. As a result of that, our competitors have not seen the success that we have, and I suspect they probably won’t. I think something we’ve been very true to throughout is that we have two individual games; a free game and a members’ game. For the most ardent fans, membership is the only option, but for those not paying we want to make sure people have access to a self-sustained game, not a demo.[/hide] http://www.develop-online.net/features/483/Interview-Jagexs-Mark-Gerhard As far as "freeloading", the ads I view in F2P support Jagex as a company, the people who know me IRL that now play as members support Jagex (you know, that word of mouth advertising), and also the friends who are members I have on runescape that continue to play for the community support jagex. I might not be paying them $6 a month out of my own pocket, but I am contributing to runescape in many ways. If Jagex really really really thought that having f2p wasn't profitable, there would be no f2p game. So, you're wrong.
  9. You're trolling. First thing you posted - "No... he has a lot of common sense F2p is a demo.... mod mmg said otherwise to make the f2p players stay... think before you judge so subtly" Then you posted "Does f2p REALLY deserve any of those =/..... " And then "Jagex is a business not a charity they would NEVER do something like that and if they did they would see their P2P numbers dropping very fast.... theyre not stupid ya know" followed by some clarification, and then "You get your stupid brain out of your head? Members pay for ADVANTAGE the less advantages the more people will quit.... think a bit...." Everyone else probably gets the picture by now. You're trolling. You haven't made a single intelligent argument, partly because you don't post more than 2 poorly written sentences at a time. Very few of your posts have been on the original topic, and you're baiting TIF for responses. You're trolling. Stop trolling. Jagex's business model is they give away a great product for free, runescape f2p. Ad revenue partly supports F2P, but they also offer an upgrade, P2P. F2P is meant to be a game unto itself, which is why they give F2P updates. The reason Jagex would give F2P a boss monster is the exact same reason they made FoG, GOP, and have a new skill coming out that's F2P.
  10. Yeah, that was with epic players and epic spawns. Typically getting more than 40 in a match on w61 is something of an accomplishment. The players that were getting 90+ with the glitch weren't anything special, they were bug abusers.
  11. KBD is one of the most fought bosses on Rs..... go to any lootshare world and it will be full... stop it with ur F2P stuff its a demo and thats kinda obvious Then it would benefit P2Pers if the KBD was introduced into F2P, you'd have more worlds to hunt it. I'm not going to argue with you about how "F2p is a demo", when the CEO of Jagex disagrees with you. The only thing that could trump CEO would be Andrew himself declaring that F2P is a demo; he never has supported that position, and probably never will. If F2P was a demo, why would they deliberately take references of P2P out of F2P? Stop trolling, its gets old real fast.
  12. Who the [bleep] was saying that? You're assuming the updates won't have self-control. The snowball effect won't happen unless Jagex lets it happen. Give F2P a few things, that's it. F2P can ask for more all they want but unless Jagex breaks in, F2P is happier than before. This is like giving a 3 year old an iPhone.... not gonna happen @jrhairychest, DemonicSushi: Quit trolling. Runescape was originally F2P. 99.9% of all players that start runescape are F2P. Mod MMG, Jagex's CEO said that F2P was not a demo. Jagex's business model is why they're so successful - enough content for F2P to last a player 15,000 hours, while having an expansion pack for bonus features. They even based FunOrb around this. These are facts. Now, the question at hand is whether making bits of outdated content F2P a good thing or not. You've already expressed the opinion "No, because I pay $5 a month to keep content out of F2P". I believe that having a boss monster would make P2P more appealing to F2Pers. It's hard to know what we're missing, the closest thing we ever had to a boss fight was with Dragon slayer. And past level 60 its not even a challenge. The content has already been developed, it would probably take 1 programmer 5 minutes to switch it over, then 2 minutes of downtime for a server update. The number of players they could gain with a boss monster in F2P could be huge. Even if they gained 1 member it would have paid for it. Also, the key is that they release P2P content sparingly. Maybe one thing a year. We're not asking for your new content, just the stuff you never use anymore. This is partly why I disagree with giving the dmed to F2P, but agree with rune arrows, yew shortbows, etc.

    Fist of Guthix

I have a lvl 38 account named sqelt. I used FoG to get mage xp, but I'm very competitive. When FoG was still popular, and worlds would be full, I was able to beat level 90's - 120's with hiding. At one point in time, I firmly believed that if I didn't want them to find me they wouldn't, but I still needed games to go faster. If you play the game as it was fully intended to be played you'll win. You'll also be called sad, noob, etc., but who cares? You're there to play fog.
  14. Lets see, I live in Indiana. We make fun of people from Kentucky, as I'm sure the rest of America does too. I'm also sure that they like to poke fun at Indiana as well. Nothing wrong with that, unless you actually believe it. I like to poke fun at Canadia. Its not that I hate them, it's just in good spirit. Eh. And the only reason I do is because some of my best friends on RS are Canadian. Eh! Its ok when you don't actually believe what you say, and the other party understands that as well. If you can't have a sense of humor about yourself then you're in a bad position to have a sense of humor about others.
  15. Pure F2P here, so 51 defense, followed by 65 attack. Everything else is above 70.
  16. Exactly, and they only banned the ones that are used to glitch, like the turkey emote and skillcape emotes. I hate to ask, but could you enlighten us non-GOP players as to how you could abuse the game by using those emotes? I guess since it's been patched, the old information isn't classified. :P The glitch is called the six orb glitch. A player would join the yellow team, and before the portal opened would spam an emote. Skill cape emotes like construction were the easiest to time, but other emotes like the turkey emote would work just as well. The player would keep spamming the emote. As the game round went on, they would still be in the lobby. Their activity bar would not go down because they never entered the game. The would not be forced through the portal like other loiterers, because of their emote. Once the first round of the game was done, they would stop doing the emote. This is where it gets a little fuzzy, but entering the game late would cause everyone to replay the air altar instead of the mind altar. Players legitly in game would teleport straight back to the air altar. Any player that touched an orb in the first round would not be allowed to touch an orb in this second round (or something like that). Also, only one color of orb would spawn (yellow, always). Usually there would be 6-10 spawns instead of the normal 3, which would allow team to get massive scores (I'm talking 80's-90's, where the absolute max anyone ever got with three orbs was 57ish.) If they made it to the end of the game, they would get 4-5 full inventories of essence at double xp, which gave them an unfair advantage. Also, many people would played honestly would get booted from the game because they were not allowed to touch orbs or make barriers on this glitched round, giving them a 10 minute penalty and no tokens for their efforts. Also, I know for a fact that players did not get banned for this, I know who I reported for bug abuse and I know who I've seen since then. Wish I could name names, but I won't. One in particular is pretty famous for being a sab on a pro-gop list. I didn't like them very much before this, and the fact that they got away with this scott-free really upsets me.
  17. Make sure your PATH variable is set correctly (I assume it is if you could get javac to run correctly). Also make sure you're in the correct directory when you try to run it. One thing that stumped me for a couple of days was when I was trying to get code to run on a linux box, to get MyClass.java to run, I had to type "java ./MyClass.class" instead of "java MyClass.class", you may have a similar situation. Also, I would recommend using Netbeans or Eclipse (unless you don't want to program in java ever again). JCreator is also nice if you're not into project based code, and want to hammer out a class real fast. Hope this helps.
  18. Maybe, probably not though. An easy way around making it too powerful would be either remove the spec, or make it as powerful as the old spec (ignore the strength bonus). I'm still toying around with that idea. Also, honed or razor claws would definitely be bad combined with a special. Give me a few days to hammer this one out.
  19. Sharpened Weapons are still untradable, but you're able to request assist now. They're also available with a shortened lifespan on PVP and BH, but degrade to scrap always. This should be a better balance than what I had before, and allows all players to take advantage of it (however, players with a higher smithing level won't have to find someone to help them out). @hedgehog I'll put in the update for dragon weapons once I can figure out the levels needed. It'll probably start somewhere around level 50-60.
  20. The one thing I wanted fixed last year wasn't. Whatever, GOP is still fun though buggy. I hope Jagex responds to my Q&A post about it, although that's probably like trying to win the lottery.
  21. <3 cpchris I'm in the process of getting 85 magic by means of superheating mithril, it'll get me 74 smithing as a bonus. F2P prayer is just unfair. There is nothing comparable in members to F2P prayer. Granted, we're F2P, so things should be harder. If you measure the fastest GP / hour, its still 3x-4x lower than many members options. Spending 500m on a skill that still requires 1 million clicks and is very, very, very slow to train is just unfair. There's no win with prayer.
  22. I've been saying this for weeks, its an economic topic called the neutrality of money. One thing that's interesting to see is how the relationships between items don't change much. For instance, you don't lose money if you superheat mithril, even though the price of all the materials have increased. Or, you still lose the same proportion if you cut gems. The easiest way to rise above inflation is to not use GP as a store of value; where in the real world this would be difficult to do in runescape is easy because all items are created equal, and age has nothing to do with them.
  23. So, anything you smith before adamant plate bodies will widely be considered junk. The goal of this update is to make weapons worth more experience, so that they're worth more. The goal is to also make having a higher smithing level actually give players a bonus in game, similar to herblore. Sharpening a weapon gives one third of the experience used to smith that item. A player may attempt to sharpen a weapon up to two times, with the indication of blunt, honed (h), and razor (r.). With each attempt at sharpening the weapon, a player may fail to sharpen it, receiving no experience and thus destroying the weapon. A destroyed weapon then becomes scrap - scrap is smith-able into bars, for the full amount of experience. It takes three pieces of scrap to make a bar, and each failed weapon gives up to two pieces of scrap times the number of bars that went in (the higher your smithing level, the more you get back). Players may not sharpen bolts, dart tips, nails, arrow heads, limbs, throwing knives, or warhammers. A blunt weapon gives no bonus to its stats, as it would be exactly like smithing the normal object. A honed weapon gives +15% bonus to its attack stats, and a +10% strength bonus. A razor weapon gives +30% bonus to its attack stats, and a +20% strength bonus. Honed and razor weapons are not tradable, and may be used on PVP or BH worlds. However, if used on PVP or BH worlds, the weapons will degrade faster. Players are limited to banking 100 honed and 100 razor weapons of each type of weapon. Honed and razor weapons typically have a lifespan of 3 fighting hours, after that they either become blunt, or scrap (depends on the player's smithing level). On a PVP or BH world, they have a lifespan of 15 fighting minutes, and are guarenteed to become scrap afterwards. It is possible to request assist. Buffering Armour is the same concept, except its adding more metal to armour. It takes 1 bar to buffer a piece of armour, with a chance of failure depending on level. If a player fails to smith, they lose the bar. Buffered armour is tradable and may be used in BH or PVP. It gives a 10% defense bonus to every category, and a -5% defense bonus to magic defense. Buffered armour has a lifespan of 1 hour, and if worn may not be traded. Buffered armour degrades into regular armour. Players are limited to banking 100 buffered pieces of each type of armour. Warhammers are abled to be buffered, it gives the weapon a +30% bonus to its attack stats and a 20% bonus to strength. It is not tradable, but may be used in PVP or BH. The buffered warhammer has a lifespan of 3 fighting hours, or 15 minutes on a PVP or BH world. Probability of failure is determined by smithing level. Players with 50% of the level required to make that item are able to attempt to sharpen or buffer weapons and armor. Players with the level required to smith, +2 will never fail. However, sharpening a weapon from honed (h) to razor (r.) will always have an inherit chance of failure at 20% in addition to their chance of failure. Thoughts? Comments?
  24. You brought being Catholic into this. I wanted to make sure you didn't misrepresent the Church's teachings. I apologize if I sounded sarcastic, or like I was directly attacking you. You are scared! But there is nothing to be afraid of. It is alright. Everything's going to be OK. Let me comfort you: legalizing gay marriage isn't going to make it harder for you to get married or take away any rights from heterosexuals in any way. Newsflash: no one is trying to hurt you! No one wants to take away your rights. You are the only one who wants to take away others' rights. Maybe this is why you are so afraid; if gays were the majority you think they would not let straights marry. But you are wrong to think that everyone is scared like you. Gays aren't scared. It takes courage to come out as gay in the United States. Who said I was scared? As it is, it takes more courage to take a stand against liberalism and being "politically correct." It takes more courage to "say it like it is", have beliefs and stand up for them than to let others decide for you. As far as "no one is trying to hurt you", This is not directly attacking me, but its attacking things I believe in. To the very title of this thread - "US Gay Marriage Ban Challenged in Federal Court - Gays fight the power in California" I think its ironic that the "power" they're fighting are the 51% that voted against gay marriages.
