Hidden Updates
Jagex did a big graphical update some time ago. They blended all the shadows in the game to make it more realistic.

How bad can gaming companies go?
Nah, Jagex got rid of the bots because the bots were selling their intellectual property, and with the new Summoning skill coming, they knew that most of their customer base would still continue to pay for the game despite the drastic changes being implemented. Jagex wasn't losing any money to the bots, so it wasn't a money issue. And even though Summoning is coming around, they'll still lose a fair bit of profit.

How bad can gaming companies go?
[hide] Any sort of bots were not a serious problem to the game. I'm sorry but all this time they have been chasing down this problem and really don't care what kind of causalities happen along the way. See, there are companies, such as jagex, that really only care about one thing. Some companies care about profits, in Jagex's case they really only care at this point about their revenue and getting these gold farmers out of the game no matter the cost. They don't give a damn on what part of the community they hurt. Defender, not every company is like this. To be honest you are less likely to see this behavior with many 'good' companies such as the ones I listed and many many more. There are a lot of game companies out there still to bring and devliver an enjoyable experience. Yes, they need to make money doing it. However just like how an artist such as a musician makes money they make it by creating enjoyable content that others will like. Don't let a few bad companies get in your way of thinking every gaming company is 'evil'. And if you're currious llamster, I am the same Nadril on MMORPG.com as here Perhaps your right, but I always seem to see more towards how they screw people over than deliever a enjoyable experience. Like Crysis for example, the entire game was awesome but my anticipation to go to the ice sphere is what I really wanted and waited for. Guess what, it doesn't happen due to the fact their making the game a 3 way fold series or Trilogy to get extra cash. I felt so ripped off from a company I thought that cared.. only to have them have only ONE ice level which was a short and quick run n gun mission. You never go back in till part 2, but the problem is, there SHOULDN'T BE a part 2. It only comes with 10 levels on single player aside from multiplayer and I waited forever to get this game. I felt kinda ripped off because I rarely seen any ice at all. Meh, I guess i'm just a negative towards companies when I always see them screw people so they can worship the dollar. Sure, getting money is 1 thing to stay afloat and perhaps some profit, but just doing it for more money is ridicolous. [/hide] The bots were a serious problem, and Jagex got rid of them because they cared about the game and was willing to lose a few members to fix the problem. The only other choices were to let the problem go and allow RWT to overrun the game, or to open up a item/gold shop of their own. The item shop would hurt a lot more people than what they did as well as defeat the purpose of the game, but it would probably make Jagex more money in the long run. My point is, they aren't just in it for the money, but care about pleasing their players and making a good game, much like the companies you mentioned. And if they are, explain why they haven't closed down RuneScape F2P. I seriously doubt that the company that made Crysis was being greedy when they decided to make it into a trilogy. If they tried to fit it all into a single game it would take to about 2012 or something, and they'd probably run out of money along the way.

How bad can gaming companies go?
The RuneScape updates were made for the purpose of destroying a serious threat towards the game. Jagex lost money by implementing it, but they were willing to do so in order to improve their game. And yes, all companies' main goal is to make money. And do you know how to make money if you are a gaming company? They "make the best awesome game ever".

Jagex, you're not only getting rid of RWTs!
Change the title to 'Jagex, you didn't only get rid of RWT!'. This is the last update that will ever be made to combat RWT, because RWT has been essentially annihilated. If you read the development diary on RWT, you would know that the effects RWT would have on the game if it were allowed to continue would be far worse than the alleged negative consequences of this update. Jagex had no choice but to stop it completely. That's not to say that they did the absolute best job that they possibly could, because the upcoming updates they announced last week don't quite cover the damages. The 30k upper limit needs to be changed to about 300k, which would still keep RWT at bay but allow us, the players, more freedom. Jagex made this update with the members of RuneScape in mind. On their post on Dec. 13, they said, "A solution was needed as soon as possible, so we had to come up with the one thing that would successfully stop real-world traders ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ stopping unbalanced trade. It will be tough for law-abiding players, but it will also be tough for us, as we will certainly not be gaining money or members with this update. Instead, we are doing this for the good of the game, which is as dear to our hearts as it is to you." And at the end of the development diary on RWT, Jagex talked about the good that will come. Now that they've eliminated the biggest problem facing the game, Jagex can now concentrate their resources on updates, and their CS on helping players. This update had its bad, certainly, but it was neccasary, and in the distant future I'm sure that we'll look back and realize that it was one of the best things Jagex has ever done for the game. The one and only reason for these updates was to squash RWT.

Why didn't Jagex just remove skilling?
First of all, Jagex did not 'ruin' PKing. They changed it, but the basics are still there. Skills are far more important than staking/PKing. They are the very essence of the game, and by removing them, you might as well shut down the game. Making transferring gold impossible was much less radical than making gold farming impossible.

GuildWars-My Story- part 4 added
You're lacking in detail. The story sounds like it's being told from a guy who's giving a brief account of certain historical events.

My hiding place is a house in Falador that has a man upstairs. The man's really funny if you talk to him (I mean it).

How bad can gaming companies go?
Three years, from 2002 to 2005. Turbine was hoping that this expansion pack would bring profits up, but it didn't, so it was closed. I agree with you. Gaming companies can and do care about their consumers.

Is there a "true" training method?
If there's a 'true' training method for anything, Jagex has done something wrong.

2 weeks after.....
I barely ever PKed, staked or merchanted, but these updates made me quit. I stil dwell in these forums though. The staking update hit me worst though, because then i knew i could never be more than an average joe, earning average wages. The only way i could ever get better than anyoe else would be to play for hours and hours a day, but never actually surpass many people still. All oppurtunities to go from rich to poor or poor to rich are gone. I wil never have a chance of being anywhere near the best, so i quit. THe community is 'clogged', nobody can become (relatively) better than anyone else. Tis not good. I don't pay to be the same as everyone else, i pay to be better. The point of the game isn't to be the best, but to have fun. -- I don't hate the updates, but I hope that Jagex'll raise the trade and stake cap above 30k when it comes out in January.

This will make you think.
Do you have a soul for crying out loud? That poor man (in both senses of the word) works $12 hours a day for $4 a day...that means in a week he hasn't earned a full tank of gas. This is a tragedy, and I can't believe you would say something so cruel. Gas is a lot cheaper in China. Everything is cheaper in China. And four dollars a day is actually a pretty bad job, even for China. A good job in China is ten dollars a day, at least. 'Tis true. Did you actually read the post? It said that he wasn't married!

Would jagex ever make runescape full screen?
It would make the game look a lot better than it is right now.

Tip.it Times Presents: The Avatar as Art
The art of "fashioning characters" in games is know as role-playing, hence the RP in MMORPG. I love the last line.

Mabinogi
Probably just a biased assumption, but I have a feeling that it'll be another shallow grindfest.
